My son is 7. He has been obsessed with trees, but all plants since he could crawl. First thing he grabbed was a dandelion! When he was 4 I invested in a bonsai tree for him, and he has kept it beautifully. He is growing 5 trees right now in his "tree garden." He plans to make them into bonsai. He also has a rose garden, and a flower garden. He hates toys. He only wants plants. And he watches your channel non-stop! When we go to get his weekly plant, the staff are so amazed by his knowledge. He said he wants to be like you, and have his yard just like yours when he is an adult. I wish bonsai was a more common hobby, so I could enroll him in some classes or something. But, for now, we will continue to enjoy everything you have to teach us. Thank you for these videos, they really are beautiful and truly have a made a difference for my son. ❤
Thank you! This is very encouraging! We all want to make an impact to leave something behind. I have six grandchildren…two picked out a bonsai to call their own. Encourage your boy to pursue his passion whatever he may choose when he grows up. :)
@kamruzzamanador5998 I hope all your wishes come true! I have raised both my sons the same. They both have an immense love for nature and plants. But, my youngest is more "classic" in his choices for playtime. Cars, playdough, etc. But he enjoys his plants!! I'm sure if you raise your children with respect for nature and love for Mother Earth, they will love her and all she has to offer. ❤️ Best of luck to you and the new Mommy! Such a special, happy time for both of you.
I don't have any kids (and don't want any) but sounds like you have an awesome son! My aunt showed me my green thumb and my passion has been roses ever since(the ladies LOVE my roses) but I think I've found another love with Bonsai trees 🎄
When you said, “when I marry her, I will grow you a rose garden.” I thought that was the sweetest most beautiful sentiment. My husband never buys me cut flowers because he knows I’d get sad to see them die. Instead he gets plants for me. There’s nothing better than sitting in our garden amongst the blooms watching the bees, butterflies and hummingbirds in summer. It’s such a joy to share that with him.
I've been helping a friend keep her garden under control for about ten years now. I realized I've been cutting down saplings that entire time, and they keep coming back, so I cut them again. Repeat. Last year I realized that was one way of making some rather interesting yard bonsai. Now I have a bunch of them in pots. I look forward to taking them to the bonsai club and seeing what they suggest.
i really like your attitude towards nature. i have never heard anyone talk critically about the yamadori before. i also like your approach to the lawn. very inspiring and an attitude worth emulating! thank you!
I like your trees. Yes, they do seem to be a bit unexpected.Your trees do seem to defy the rigid styles others do, but that makes them cooler, not ugly.
I have admired Bonsia since childhood 50 years ago. The past couple weeks I’ve been watching your videos so I can learn and be inspired to begin my own Bonsai tree. Looking around our property I noticed we have a small juniper that was put in the ground in the 1980’s by my husband’s parents. Looking at its growth, it may be good to transform into Bonsai so I’m going to do it. Milton, your encouragement throughout your videos is a gift. I complete my 60th year this July and it is the perfect time to transition my passion for gardening into something I can do while experiencing increased limitations due to health challenges. Thank you for the inspiration!! 💛
Nice video! funny also because bonsai beginners often start with a juniper and when they look at it sideways it dies, but you happily prune the crap out of this one and make it more jin than green and it looks like it will survive. Plants are tough, thanks for showing that!
Just recently started enjoying your videos and your knowledge.Tysm for sharing....now if I could just find someone to give me that "Rose Garden Promise." Many Blessings
Every one of the trees I see in these videos is exquisite! That dual trunk(I guess that's what we'd call it) visible in the back at 22:11. That thing is spectacular!
Thank you! You will improve the look of a tree as you work on it. It naturally becomes beautiful if you follow the rules of nature. That is, let nature take over, but nudge it towards your ideal look. Best wishes!
I just came across your channel and am thrilled with how you show and explain everything. Even though I am a 71 year old gramma, I would love to learn this wonderful art form and wiwll be following you from now on! Thank you for sharing all of your great wisdom! God bless!

My house border land that’s is a tree plantation, they have recently began cutting down trees & I have managed to get some great bonsai specimens that they had dug up and left or had damaged. They are currently plating new native trees once the land has been farmed so no harm done taking the smaller none native trees.
Great Video. I have been practicing Bonsai for only a few years, so I really appreciate your long perspective . Your honesty in sharing your knowledge not only on what works , but on what you could have done differently is very helpful.
I appreciate your kind words! I've killed many trees when I first started doing bonsai so I'm happy to share my knowledge and tried and true techniques with you :)
The three junipers I got from a construction site all died on me. But boy did I learn a lot from those over grown beasts. Took too much off and not enough healthy roots. Thank you for this great inspiring video. Question- can you talk about why you don’t like wire on junipers to keep them more natural looking? And how you build the tree without wire. I feel that my wired trees often look so fake and over styled.
Absolutely lovely yard Milton, a testament to your lifetime of hard work professionally and personally. I agree with your philosophy of ensuring future generations get to both enjoy nature and what we cultivate. Thanks for another informative and inspiring video !
Amazing yard. I can really appreciate the planning and work that went into building it. I agree with your philosophy to leave trees in nature and grow your own in your yard to dig up in the future.

I grew up with my father doing his own irises and daylilies. "You can't make a mistake with Bonsai." Next scene: "Now I really screwed up." 🤣
I agree with you that if bonsai were more popular yamadori collecting would devastate the wilderness. Like you I prefer to cultivate yardadori.
