HOW WE DO IT!! Provisioning CHALLENGES When CRUISING [Ep.19]

  • Provisioning for food on a cruising sailboat has its challenges. It’s not like you can just run out to the store at any given moment to pick up some more cheese or bread. It takes planning as in are you going to a marina or will you dingy to shore from an anchorage? Then you’ll need to find out where the nearest grocery store or market is to you. Now that you’ve found the store, how are you going to get yourself there and perhaps more importantly how will you get back once your bags are loaded down with the weight of all your food and beverages? On OliLuki we’ve used a scooter but over the past 7 months of travel, we’ve realized we need a more powerful scooter, one with greater speed, range and overall safety features such as lights…..lots of lights so drivers can see us coming or going. Lots of research brought us to the ZERO 10 Scooter. A workhorse of a scooter with lots of power, suspension, lights and overall range. In this episode we share the challenges of shopping (aka: provisioning) and how our new electric scooter has solved the problem. RevRides.com is the exclusive U.S. distributor and we’re happy to share they created a unique promo code: OLILUKI if you’re in the market for a new scooter, you can save money and get free shipping!
    Ok, enough talk……let’s roll!

    About Us: We are a family of four from Southern California, San Clemente. Join us as we document our travel experiences, adventures and uncertainties that come along. 3 years ago we sat down as a family and shared a dream that we all wanted to see come true. A dream that we take a window of time in our lives to do something truly special together, an extended sailing trip, an adventure that would stay with us for the rest of our lives.

    It’s nice to see the boat. My wife and I are planning similar adventures! I would actually be more curious over your individual story. I’d like to know your reasons for moving afloat. Why you sold your home; for such a change. Etc! Did you both have sailing experience?! Be fascinating to hear your story behind it

    Nice segway (pun intended) on the scooter. The Zero is amazing. I got an Apollo Light (similar to Zero 8) due to space and weight consideration. It’s one of the lightest scooter with air filled tires and dual suspension.

    Have you guys tried motoring in just a single engine? You'll probably only lose a little speed but you'll save in field and wear and tear?

    • @sailingsvoliluki6938
      @sailingsvoliluki6938  3 года назад

      Hi Adam, yes if we need to motor or motor sail, we always use one engine unless conditions require us to use both engines. Agree with you totally, less wear and tear and less consumption on fuel! :-).

    We were planning to get Segway Ninebots. How has the Zero 10 served you the last 2 years? Especially, how have the tires handled punctures?

    • @sailingsvoliluki6938
      @sailingsvoliluki6938  Год назад

      Hi Amy,
      The ZERO scooter has been great! Lots of power, range, lights, suspension etc. it has served us extremely well. I believe we have just over 600 miles in it! Tires have actually been good. We did have 1 flat on the rear which was easily fixed and I’m just now upgrading the scooter to some really heavy duty off-road type tires since most of our riding is not a nice sidewalks or city street but gravel path, uneven pavement or island roads. All in all it’s been great. My only negative is the ZERO 10 at least is a bit in the heavy side, otherwise we love it.
      If you’re by chance shopping for a scooter at RevRides, our OliLuki code is still good for 10% off. Let me know if you have other questions. Happy shopping and safe riding!

    • @amyv2838
      @amyv2838 Год назад

      Fantastic feedback, thanks! Especially since it’s a 6 month limited warranty I like to hear that it holds up and has gotten use. Please let me know what tires you find- that’s definitely what we’ll need.
      I’m thinking because of the weight, two Zero 9’s might be better for us. Good range, same max speed, lights, dual suspension and braking, and they’re 40lbs each. It looks like RevRides only has parts right now, but according to the Zero site, If we have it delivered in the states the speed is capped at 25km/hr instead of 47? Do you know anything about that? Thanks again!

    • @sailingsvoliluki6938
      @sailingsvoliluki6938  Год назад +1

      @@amyv2838 hi Amy, sorry for the late reply. I’ve never heard anything about speed being limited for US sold models. Ours wasn’t or others that I’ve heard from that used our OliLuki discount code. RevRides is usually very quick to reply to emails if you haven’t already asked them about this.
      The tires I just bought from RevRides for our ZERO 10 are not solid rubber but they are crazy heavy duty tires / rubber. WY more robust than what came in the scooter. Here’s the link: revrides.com/collections/all-parts/products/urban-hybrid-offroad-tire-10-x-3-inch-255-x-80mm

      Hi Brock, This is Oliver. We are in The Bahamas having a nice time. The water here is warm and crystal clear! There are lots of beaches and the sand feels like wet powder… and is so soft. There are lots of hermit crabs and boats. There are so many fish, bull sharks, reef sharks and rays! The water is shallow and there is a lot of sea grass and coral reefs.
      Hi Brock, This is Lukas. When we arrived in The Bahamas we went from Miami, Florida To Bimini which is in The Bahamas. We stayed a couple of days in Browns Marina. When we were in
      Browns Marina which is in Bimini we saw some huge spotted sea rays, manta rays, and sting rays and bull sharks! Also we saw a big fish, we didn't know what it was and also Tarpon. Thanks for writing to us!

    what are your thoughts one one drive.

    • @sailingsvoliluki6938
      @sailingsvoliluki6938  3 года назад

      Hi Scott, I don't think we have "One Drive" on our boat. We do have the Yanmar engines and sail drives and have no complaints about the smoothness of the transmission or power. We'd love to be actually "sailing" more but when we have to run the engines, the systems are working perfectly. And the Yanmar's burn less than a gph at our normal cruising speed!
