    Sooooooo grateful that you show your worries and fears in your video! I would have the same and it’s so authentic and helpful for future sailors to watch you planning everything out, rather than showing only butterflies and rainbows.

      We’re really glad you find the videos helpful. That has always been our plan, goal and hope. There are some rainbows (😁) but it’s definitely not just sail, laugh and have sunset drinks. This requires a commitment from everyone, help from everyone and teamwork, understanding and forgiveness peppered throughout. That all said, it’s a wonderful life experience and we are grateful to be able to do this with our boys now! Thanks and stay tuned there are more videos to come!

    Great video!! I love your preparedness and your attention to details. Always remember, every boater started just like you, crossing the stream for the 1st time was intimidating. What I like is that you're not afraid to admit that what you don't know, you don't know. This time next year your wealth of knowledge will probably amaze you when think back about this 1st crossing. Enjoy the Bahamas!! Cheers from Austin, TX

      Maki and I made a commitment that we would not only teach the boys about the obvious like sailing techniques or cultures, traditions etc of places we visit but also solid guidelines like “planning” “researching” and methodical thinking which adds to our safety here aboard OliLuki but can be used and applied in anything they do in life.

I'm building a cat to retire onto here in Asia, and am still learning something new everyday, often from sailors much younger than me (especially technology.) You all chose a lifestyle that requires an open mind and the constant acquisition and updating of skills. And you get to do that amidst the most amazing sunrises and sunsets. All my respect...

    Great video. Small bit of advice, having crossed the Atlantic Ocean 3 times , motoring is a part of the adventure but would advise you to use one engine only. You using unnecessary engine hours and diesel. Wonderful to see the family out on the water. Look forward to many more adventure from the channel.

      @sailingsvoliluki6938  3 года назад

      Hi Gary, thank you for taking time to join our adventure and thank you for your comment. You are correct on running just one engine for all the reasons you mentioned and to be honest when motor sailing we always run a single engine, alternating to keep the hours balanced. The day of the crossing I ran 2 because we had never crossed the Gulf Stream before nor navigated the coral head filled waters of the Bahamas so I wanted to arrive with plenty of daylight remaining. Since the crossing I’m happy to report we’ve only motor sailed using one engine and have had several days of nothing but sailing which was wonderful especially in The Bahamas!

    Nice video with excellent "production values"! While I understood what you said about going south first, you would have saved distance and time (and diesel) to just leave from Ft Lauderdale and adjust your course on the water accordingly. You were "crabbing" anyhow - another few degrees would have made little difference. Maybe the real point was to meet up with your sailing buddies?

    Nice crossing with nearly perfect weather. Just a suggestion, but when you are filming and want us to hear what you are saying try to get the boys to be quiet in the background.
