  • It’s amazing how fast time flies by. Our Leopard 45 arrived to Fort Lauderdale nearly 3 months ago and we’re happy to say all continues to move forward. Come join us as a few unplanned warranty issues arise, aftermarket work keeps humming along nicely and some of the final touches are added to SV OliLuki such as custom enclosures and cushions!
    Over the past few months many of you have asked a variety of questions ranging from when did we decide to do this adventure to why did we buy the Leopard 45? We are working on a Q & A Video to answer as many of these questions as possible. That said, if you have a burning question you just have to get the answer to…..send it our way and we’ll do our best to answer it. Questions should revolve around sailing and not “Why is the ocean blue?” or “Will my car tires melt on Mars” 😜

That said, we usually still found ourselves with questions about how or when or where or what and so we are really trying to share as much of the process without making it boring. Once again, I'm astonished at how much work, you as the new owner, has to get done after the initial delivery. If I understood you correctly last time, all this work with the cushions and covers, etc etc could have been done by Leopard at the factory. You chose to have it done yourself because it's less expensive. Correct? I'm a big believer in attention to detail. The stuff you're having done is all high quality stuff, that plastic in the water tanks is unbelievably lax of the manufacturer. Micro plastic in the drinking water! WTF Leopard!!! One thing's for sure, when this is complete, it will be a boat to be proud of 👍

      Thanks Warren. For Maki and I, we really learned a lot during our motorhome days. We installed to many things too fast as we were really excited to get out with out boys. This time around, we're taking that life lesson and taking things a little slower, ,such as using our AGM's for the first year and then switching to lithium. You may already know that in the boating world there is an endless amount of things you can add to or buy for a boat. We decided we wanted to have some systems added that we know right away we need to be able to cruise off the grid, but the rest.....we'll go out, sail and see what we feel we really need and add it then. :-). Cheers! Stay safe. Andy

      Hi Debbie, Yes we have pretty much been on the boat the entire time since the Coronavirus really became a nationwide issue. That said, we're glad to be on the boat as we've been very much isolated for the most part. When a worker needs to be on our boat, especially inside, they wear all the protective gear and in most cases we take the opportunity to go for long walks or do the boys home schooling at the end of the marina where there hasn't been a single soul. To answer your question.....the boys LOVE their rooms and are very excited to get out and start sailing / traveling. We'll just have to see what options are open to us as far as where and when we can go. All the best to you and your family.....stay safe! ~Andy

    Given that crazing is just a fact of life with plexiglass, why aren't the windows made from tempered glass? Especially for vertical windows, it seems like glass would last basically forever compared to plexiglass. I know it's more expensive but so is the labor needed to replace the plexiglass eventually.

    • @AndrewYPTang
      @AndrewYPTang 4 года назад +3

      Yeah. I was surprised to see that for such an expensive boat, it’s not even tempered glass.

    • @sailingsvoliluki6938
      @sailingsvoliluki6938  4 года назад +2

      Hi Greg, When we were researching boats I asked the same question. I actually thought all boats used " tempered glass". Turns out the windows on our boat and many new boats on the market are now made from an acrylic material for many reasons like better UV block, a clearer view than glass, weight is a big one being far lighter than glass and excellent impact resistance. Crazing can happen as it did on our skylight but I also learned it is very uncommon on a new boat. We're glad it was replaced under warranty and is good to go. Thanks for watching and I appreciate your comment. ~Andy

    • @stevekaluf2708
      @stevekaluf2708 4 года назад

      @@AndrewYPTang If it were tempered glass, a hit would shatter it into a millions pieces. I suspect it is actually Lexan. Lexan is very strong, expensive and ideal for this application. That's why you will find it as windshields on racing vehicles.

    • @sailingsvoliluki6938
      @sailingsvoliluki6938  4 года назад +1

      The large skylight had "crazing" which is internal spider webbing type cracks that I'm told won't leak but look horrible and over time will get worse to the point of not being able to see out the window. Leopard replaced it no questions asked. There is a SS chaffing strip on the Port side of the skylight that elevates the lines over the skylight which helps but I might install another on the Starboard side as well. • @sailingsvoliluki6938
      @sailingsvoliluki6938  4 года назад +1

      Hi Dennis, yes unfortunately it does cost a bit of $$ to get a boat ready for "blue water" sailing. Most boats come with whatever the manufacturer considers its "base set of options" as they are building boats for a certain price point. I can't really disagree with that philosophy since two Leopard 45 catamarans as an example could be used in very, very different ways such as coastal or inter coastal sailing versus crossing oceans which requires a water maker, solar or lithium batteries etc, etc. Many of the aftermarket items you see us adding is to set our boat up for global sailing. We'll be doing a video where we go over everything we spent on setting up our boat including all the runs to West Marine! Stay tuned :-). Thank you for joining our journey. Stay safe! ~Andy

    • @dennisreeves632

      Thank you so much for the reply. I'm just amazed they don't offer a blue water option that has every thing you need for global sailing when you buy the boat. I'm not a cruiser so I'm really to dumb to really talk about it. Just seems they would off that option so you don't have to do all the after market stuff. To be honest the spare parts we have on our new boat would really be the same even on a used boat......things like extra impellers, oil, filters, belts, shackles, carabiners, blocks etc, etc.. These are all things every boat should have on board to be prepared and be safe. Those enclosure company folks didn't sound very sure of what they were doing. Sticking the plastic rail in place with 3M tape doesn't sound like a very robust way of doing it. That needs to be screwed in place and needs to be stainless steel or the first wave or storm you encounter is gonna rip that rail off.

      Hi Wallace, the plastic rails are both attached with industrial adhesive backing and with stainless steel screws with a marine caulking. Those rails aren't going anywhere but thanks for watching the videos so closely :-). Thanks for joining our adventure. All the best and stay safe! ~Andy

      Darrell Allen not yet. Decided to use the AGM batteries we upgraded to from the factory. The good news is the solar system has been wired lithium ready so when we move forward it will be a quick switch!

    Why did you dump the plastic junk from your water tanks overboard?

    • @sailingsvoliluki6938

      Hi Geo, thanks for your comment. We actually didn’t have any plastic flakes in our tanks as I saw with other owners boats. But as you saw the water I vacuumed out of the tank was pretty gross. It took 5 gallons of rinsing per tank before the water out was basically clear. We are very much about keeping our oceans clear of plastic and garbage but I really appreciate you asking and watching the video so closely 👍. All the best ~Andy

      Hi Joseph, no nit picking here, just flushing out any warranty issues while we are still in Southern Florida. We have a great relationship with our broker and the contracted company they use Just Catamarans for warranty work......all great people who are doing great work. It doesn't really matter what the product is wether it be our new catamaran or a new car you purchased, a purse a watch or a bag of coffee beans......all brands make a promise when they advertise or market their respective product or service to all of us the customers and the good or even great brands stand behind that promise and do their very best to delivery 100%. It is what sets the average products or brands apart from those that are excellent. The warranty issues that have arisen on our boat have been swiftly taken care of and we as a new customer of a Leopard Catamaran can honestly say we are pleased with our purchase decision. We have worked incredibly hard to get to this chapter in our lives, to be able to share this life experience with our boys. As the Captain of our vessel I want to make sure all systems check out and that we are safe first and foremost so that we can then get busy enjoying our journey. Thanks for watching and joining our adventure. Hope you enjoy future videos. Stay safe! ~Andy
