    Maki and Andy, this video is absolutely amazing and full of very necessary information that will save a lot of time to help anyone in making decisions in how to outfit their catamaran. We are amazed how much knowledge you both have gained in such a short time. We are always looking forward to your next episode with great anticipation! We are so proud of you both along with our great grandsons! Thank you and please stay safe.

      Thanks Dad! 😘😊. There's definitely a lot to learn and think about but it becomes second nature after a while. That said, making the initial decisions is a big deal because unfortunately all this stuff isn't free and making the wrong decisions will be costly. Just trying to pay it forward and help others that want to chase their dreams of sailing the big blue oceans (or lakes). Hugs and love from all of us including your two "Floating Chef's" grandsons! 😜

We are out here to have a great life experience with our boys and show them this beautiful world of ours but safety first. What a spectacular intro! I really like the idea of having a fresh intro, especially for current times. Y'all are going to become epic videographers. I am amazed how each of you work as a team. Andy is a great teacher for these young boys. 👍
    Obviously, the first time around, showing the boys the mechanical aspects was for us viewers also. I don't expect they will get everything the very first time, nor do I expect the repetition of instruction for them to be in every video. They will grasp it soon. Way to go Dad! Much better than any other "kid boat" channel I have seen. 👏
    No clue where Maki gets her cooking skills, or what the dishes are. But, everything I have seen so far looks amazing 😋. Eventually she will have to share some recipes through video instruction with us once y'all get your routine sorted and you are more settled in.
    Great safety features for the boys. I'm hooked on this channel and just one more video to be caught up. S/V OliLuki did not disappoint ❤️🤙

      Hi Curt! Thank you very much for your kind words. Both Maki and I work very well as a team to take advantage of every teachable moment out here on the boat. Literally everything is a learning or teaching moment for us all and we decided as parents before moving aboard the boat the best way for the boys to learn was to be active crew members doing the daily chores and activities. They now know several sailing knots they understand tacking and point of sail etc, etc. as well as clean and scrubbing the boat down regularly. All things they had no clue about before starting out. Maki loves cooking and really takes care of us all with super nutritious foods! She said she'll be happy to share her recipes so stay tuned!

    Hello !, I have discovered your channel, some weeks ago, and I have to say that your history is especially motivational, for many families like ours. Thanks for sharing a part of your life in this way, that is so kind from you. In this "social media" environment, it not easy to find something remarkable and inspirational to improve the quality of life as a family, especially for the kids in the middle of the best growing up age. I have a question regarding some gadgets you use, I really apprecieate it your advice about watches for sailing, according to your experience. I am looking for a worth it wristwatch, and I check some brans like Garmin or Suunto, but it is really difficult to find the right one. I appreciate your answer and comments, about that. I really enjoy you videos, thanks for those and take care ! Have a good sailings ! Mat.

      Hi Mat! Thank you for the kind comments....we truly appreciate it. Our only interest in doing these videos is to pass on some useful or hopefully useful information while adding some inspiration, motivation and perhaps a little entertainment as well :-). Life is short, we should all love and care and leave this world better than we received it.
      Ok watches.....yes when I was looking I quickly found myself confused, overwhelmed and my head spinning with options, brands etc, etc. That said, I think this is really a personal decision. I really like my Garmin Fenix 5 however they make the sailing edition; Quantix 6 (buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/699976) but this really only makes sense if your boat has Garmin electronics which allows them to "communicate" with each other. My Fenix 5 has many features, some of which I've never used but the battery life is amazing. I know it probably sounds silly but I also love that I can snap on and off different watch bands for a different look. I can go weeks on a single charge. Suunto would have been my other choice. I think they make a fantastic watch as well. ~Andy

      @@sailingsvoliluki6938 HELLO Andy! I really appreciate your reply. I realized almost the same conclusion regarding to the Garmin watches. That Quatix version looks great and very dedicated for sailing, but the Fenix series can be very useful for sailing as well. I will check their features to try to discern the best option for me. I mean I have to decide whether the quatix version is worth the price or not. Thank you again for your useful and motivational videos, have good sailings and enjoyable days ! Mat.

    • @sailingsvoliluki6938
      @sailingsvoliluki6938  4 года назад

      Hi Inna, in our opinion, the number one thing that needs to be in alignment is that everyone in your family is "on board" so to speak with the idea of this kind of adventure. If everyone is excited to go do it than the rest is relatively easy. That said, you may want to charter a boat for a few, maybe 3-4 days so you all get the feel of what it's like to be on a boat 24 hours a day. Depending on the weather and where you are sailing / traveling, the seas may not always be nice and smooth. There needs to be a realty check that being on a boat is not all about sunsets, beaches and drinks although that is a part of it. For the selection of the boat, that really depends on where you plan to cruise. There is a difference in a "coastal cruising" boat VS a blue water "off-shore" vessel. I can tell you that in our case, Maki and I in our childhood years spent time on boats on lakes and rivers but nothing in the ocean. We took sailing classes for monohull sailboats and really enjoyed it. I then took extended classes for catamaran sailing as it is very different from a monohull sailboat. I jumped on any opportunity that came our way for me to travel with other boat owners in helping them move their catamarans from one location to another. As a family we decided that we really wanted this life experience and then we simply set our goals, stayed focused and made it happen. The fact that you're asking the question says to me that you (and hopefully your entire family) have been thinking about it and talking about it. We love this experience. Our boys are seeing and doing new things every day which is enriching their life experience. Catching fish, crabs, seeing dolphins, sharks, sting rays etc. Everything is a learning experience. Living on a boat brings utter peace and tranquility and sometimes moments of hectic chaos. It will test and improve your relationships (as long as everyone wanted to be on the boat in the first place :-). You become a team, a stronger bonded family. You experience and respect weather in a way you never have before and being on a boat means you are interacting with Mother Nature daily. It really all boils down to one question: Do you all want to do this? Is everyone excited to have this experience? Ok I know that was two questions but you get where I'm going with this. If the answer is "Yes", you will make it happen and you will all experience wonderful life memories together. Stay safe and all the best! ~Andy and the crew

      Hi Shawn, yes our boat is set up the same way. We also have a system that allows us to “jump start” the engine battery with House Batteries and we opted for the back up foot switch to retrieve the anchor in case the handheld controller goes out, although we have an extra one of those on board and also a Manual Anchor Recovery Tool that allows us to retrieve the anchor without the use of any power assist.

Yesterday the dock master incorrectly cleated off our lines and it was our boys that went around the dock and fixed them all. Maki and I believe in involving them in all aspects of this adventure and in so doing we teach them and pass on a real life experience far beyond just boating.

      Great job making your kids capable and contributing. I learned to help dock and anchor our live aboard 63 ft WWII Torpedo Recovery MV at 5. My brother was gone all day with the dinghy at the age of 9. My 16 y.o. brother was sailing a 19 ft open cockpit lightning class sailboat throughout the Med with no outboard. We grew up joyful, capable, and respectful of the power of nature. Boating is life and death at times. Hiding in the cabin won’t make them safer. -
