  • As a family of five on a sailboat, we go through a lot of food, water, and fuel each day. It seems like we are going to shore several times a week for more provisions. This week we are in Orange Bay, Alabama, just around the corner from Pensacola Florida and we are able to anchor in Wolf Bay and get everything we need for our planned trip offshore.

    Get a vacum sealer. Good for food and clothes. Pays for itself. Good for packing away out of season clothes too. Humidifier? Also a good investment

    Every boat has problems new and old. Stay safe out there glad you guys are safe where you are. That is a good idea putting them in ziplock bags. How was the water I know you said that it was kinda chili but was the water chili to. In the summertime the water is warm like a bath water. Have fun you guys.

    My water consumption is about 5 gallons per day that does include my daily shower but I’d say at 13 per day for the five of you that’s amazing conservation

    Omgoodness!!! When we first moved on to our boat, our then 3 yo Randal dumped boxes of noodles everywhere🤦🏻‍♀️ I felt like I was going to find noodles for years! The plan was to measure the noodles and keep them in air tight containers… that didn’t happen😂

    Howdy Todd & Tammy! Loving your adventures, and boy oh boy, Katy looked so good! Just a suggestion for repackaging food, just take a quick picture of the instructions/recipes then you have near instant access without writing them down each time. Looking forward to seeing y'all arrive in Tampa. Cheers! Robert

      Hey Robert! She sure did. I’ll send you the extra footage of you anchoring single handed. 😍 That’s a great idea generally but I take so much footage with my phone it’s tough to manage extra photos and the kids, who do a lot of cooking wouldn’t have as easy access. 👍

    Great episode, I can’t wait till next week to see how the crossing went. You guys should all be proud of you work and preparation to get here. Please try to relax more and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Yours is my favorite RUclips channel of all that I follow. You’ve really inspired me that once the lakes thaw around here to take a break from work and get out on the water more

    From Orange beach east is the Big Lagoon, then in the east if there is Pensacola Pass. You have to go out there because about 35 east is a 50 foot bridge. You should have left in the north wind to go to Tampa, been a down wind sail.Kool to see you so close to where I live and I’ve spend many nights and days where you were around Barbours Marina and that area.Hope your trip south goes well and safe.

    We (me and my wife) use about 20 litres a day for all use, washing and drinking.
    When at anchor, but at mariners we go stupid 😅
    Good luck with the overnight events ❤😊

    12 gal a day is impressive. I live off grid and use a hose (property has city water) and the best I can do is about 7 gal for one person. no showers included. what filters do you use? are you thinking about a water maker?

    • @Spoondrifters
      @Spoondrifters  Год назад

      Yeah, I really think we need one. As it gets warmer and we start playing in the water we’re going to need to drink more and shower more often.

      When we were at a marina we used a dehumidifier and it worked great. Todd’s been reading about using small computer fans to keep the air flowing in the cupboards.

    For a family wouldn't a water maker be justified. That would save running for water and space.

  • @hanssolo4ever

    Even a new boat would have problems , you could have spent 200k on a sailboat and still discovered you needed to do another 40k in repairs and updates. The difference is on this boat you bought a cheap boat and traded your time and labor for money and knowledge and confidence in your boat.
