Dope video... On the rust topic...rust from a sterile point of view is not an issue, I've used tons of rusty lids. but from a toxicity point of view it's hard to believe that is not an issue tho the quick web search will disagree.. "rust is just iron oxide" but lids are alloys so whatever the lid contains will then end up in the medicine. I dont see an alternative to that. Well it came to mind ifew years ago and its been weighing on my conscious so figured I'd share
I remember using both of these broke boi versions many moons ago. I much prefer plastic lids, modified with an actual SHIP and a much larger GE hole covered by a Microppose filter sticker. But man... seeing the 2 types of metal lids brought back some pretty damned good memories brother. Thanks for the trip down memory lane 🤍
@@Mycophilia Oh shiz! A reply!! Not only do I like your videos, as they are informative without being full of a bunch of filler, but I really appreciate how you interact with your audience as well.
Really awesome channel my friend. I am. a PhD chemical engineer and was part of a biotech startup in the early 2000's . I still own a Waters HPLC that probably needs a little bit of work to get it cleaned up and running. I would love to start a research company that can do some real work. Seems like the times are really changing. The immune stimulant, anti tumor and other health benefits are so on the fast track to acceptance.
Man, this is the video I needed. I've actually moved to unmodified because they're less of a pain. I'm only two minutes in so I need to watch the rest but you already answered one of my long time questions of do I screw the MFer as tight as I can or leave it slightly loose. I've seen someone leaving the foil loosely on top of all their jars which seemed like a good idea too. Thanks for making these videos! You've been answering my questions since I started almost 8 months ago!
@@Spiderclawz I was originally making that video, but realized I need to cover jar lids first for those following the series :) Decided to make it two separate videos to keep them focused!
The only issue I could see with rust is the rough surface with pockets and divots that bacteria and mold could hide it. But like you said, if you sterilize it, it should be all good
@@Mycophilia lol you talked me into an insta pot and i prepped grain jars like 2 or 3 days ago, will probably be another 2 or 3 till i inoculate them. they looked over hydrated when i took them out of the pc(lots of condensation in the jars) but now they look dry, sounds dry against the glass when i shake it, is that normal or did i do something wrong?(i did 2 jars popcorn and 2 jars brown rice)
Wazzup bud, you know this is what we actually started with. 25 years ago. We used to do this but cover the top with a square of foil. So it worked forever. I personally like the filter patches like I like my flow hood more than sab.
3:25 definitely works, but I still use polyfill. It’s cheaper and it doesn’t have to be renewed for more grow cycles than micropore Also if you inoculate through it (which I do not) it’s self healing.
So does this mean that self-healing injection ports are also a thing of the past? Or is it just that they're more work than necessary (and thus against your core principles)?
Question. I have heard you say on several videos Grass lovers, coir lovers and poo lovers. I am curious as to the difference between Poo lovers and Coir lovers?
Is your website the only place I can contact you directly? I was wanting to see how much a one on one consultation would cost. I have been having some minor issues going a lazy route and before going all out I would like to learn all I can about mycology before doing so @mycophilia

@@marshallartist2012 that’s a fair point, thanks for sharing ✌️
I brought a load of plastic lids with the insert filters and injection ports. A bit of an initial setup.

Thank you so much sage for explaining the very useful efficient organized use of lids. I'd use both methods of lids but mainly unmodified.

Ditch the foil, they won’t help and potentially make it worse 😉
I appreciate the way you explain things. Thank you friend 🤘🏻✨
i modify my lids with self healing plugs and micropore tape, while not recommended spore to grain has been working wonders so ill stick too it
Are the genetics tiers going to open up again anytime soon? I’ve been waiting to join the group :)

new to all this, love how easy to follow and in depth your content is! what are your thoughts on uncle ben tek for a first time grow?
You could try it, but I do not recommend it. I recommend making rice jars and inoculating that, much better chance of success that way :)

@@TheSubliminalCriminal that’s normal, they should not look wet after 1 day. Normal to be wet though straight out of the pc. You won’t regret it :)

new to the hobby! the unmodded lid looks interesting, i guess for putting more LC into it, you just lift the whole lid up and plop some droplets?
yep, inside a SAB or in front of a FFU or Flowhood
can you do a practical video about casing prep & application and fruiting conditions please?
It's definitely on the list!

Yo sage weird question can I use the substrate from an all in one bag that didn't colonise? Low on money
No as there are uncolonized grains in there.
Very informative and Very well explained as always, you the best bro 👏🇧🇷
Thanks Ahzael!
Great vid!

Yes it is not necessary at all, it never was.
Do you change the tape after a while ?
Every batch.
im going to use my one piece storage stainless lids without the silicone gasket
