    There have been lots of flood mitigation inventions. My brother had one back in the day of Katrina. Unfortunately, state governments don't want to spend money on them. They'd rather the people do their own thing. For 7 years my brother was warning Florida governments about beach erosion and the cost during flooding, and that he had a solution to mitigate that. They all ignored him. So he gave up.

    • @Sea-cucumber1151
      @Sea-cucumber1151 3 месяца назад +4

      It’s not as simple as that. These were 100 year and likely 1000 year floods, meaning they are not suppose to happen in your lifetime. It’s just a possibility. We lived in a 100 year never had issues, most people never will. You aren’t even told to get flood insurance if you live there. Now Florida on the shore definitely has risks but most of the flooding in the other states were the interior sides. Many places flood because the water running in sewers has no where else to go so it starts to bubble out of grates and these places are no where near rivers, creeks shores. Even places that were up in the mountains had issues from gravity, that much rain has to go somewhere, it washes out driveways, bridges, and even ground. When you have 20” of rain it does not matter where you live, it just can’t drain fast enough to not cause problems. Yes I agree on the beach either build on huge stilts and not wood homes, live in condo’s that may lose their ground floors but will be still standing. You cant use your simplistic views on the rest it doesn’t work that way. Not when you are implying the rest were foolish for living where they did.
      The water in many places maybe had never risen more than 10’ feet, they were prepared for that, many of these designs would not have saved them, when the water rose 45’!

      @RealConstructor 2 месяца назад

      @@cesmith777Yes it can, we’ve done it for centuries in my country. It is as flat as Florida, but with lower elevation, below sea level. I live 6m (21 ft I believe) below sea level on reclaimed land only 3 centuries ago, so reasonably young. It used to be a swamp and a lake, so I basically live on former lake bottom with dykes and levies around it where the water has been pumped out of, a sort of dry bath tub. Our whole country is made of a high number of these bath tubs next to each other. If in any case a waterboard area may flood, it is limited to that one waterboard area, the other ones still got their own levies and dykes, to protect people and property. Every region (bath tub) of our country has its own waterboard, with its own government, elections, parliament and ability to tax the inhabitants, all separate from any other government (national, provincial and municipal). Their main task is to prevent flooding, and make sure the people can keep living in the area, and get the funding for it by taxation. My waterboard tax is €300 a year, about $330. That’s our flood insurance. And the state government is responsible for our sea defenses, paid out of taxes, mostly income tax. So it is a two tier system. It has been working for a very long time, the oldest waterboard is from the year 1255. The waterboards are very prudent with our tax money.

      Alors le coup de la maison sur vérins, oui, ça existe, mais c'est très, _très_ onéreux et complètement inutile en cas d'inondation. Un vérin est une pièce mobile et si sa fonction est de soulever une maison entière, alors il doit avoir la puissance nécessaire pour ce faire, ce qui implique une came assez longue (proportionnelle à la hauteur à laquelle on veut soulever la maison) et des aménagements pour changer l'huile, vérifier l'étanchéité et le câblage de l'installation, et bien sûr des dispositifs d'urgence pour pouvoir opérer le vérin en cas de panne générateur ou de bug système. Au passage, je le dis de suite, opérer un vérin hydraulique manuellement est une tâche épuisante qui nécessite une très bonne condition physique, donc tu oublies mamie ou tes petites têtes blondes en cas de pépin avec ce système. La plupart des maisons sur vérins existantes ne sont pas conçues pour les inondations mais pour les tremblements de terre, et les vérins ne déplacent pas la maison du tout, ils servent simplement à absorber les chocs du séisme pour que la maison ne se fissure pratiquement pas. À cause de l'entretien seul, ce genre de dispositif est plutôt réservé à des laboratoires ou à des centres de recherche qui manipulent des produits sensibles ou délicats (genre des virus mortels ou de la nitroglycérine à l'état liquide). Voilà voilà, Samuel :p .
