I did the AT in 2019 and that Super 8 is probably the best bang for the buck I’ve ever come across for lodging. At least for traditional motels/hotels. I Also did 3 little Pigs. And Wendy’s the next morning after resuplying for an early lunch. Didn’t do the Mexican because I had Mexican in almost every small town since NC haha. The 1/3rd mark is only about a mile past that road so congratulations to being .333 of the way done!
You caught some beautiful sunrises at the triple crown. The daffodils were so beautiful and things are starting to get green. Beautiful views all around.
Thanks for the nice videos! I suggest taking the short detour from the AT to Humpback Rocks, a few miles south of the entrance to Shenandoah National Park. If you are feeling adventurous, the airplane crash is a few miles out of the way. Big Meadows is the only campground currently open in SNP. Resupplying at the Big Meadows wayside/camp store is possible. The adjacent Dark Hollow Falls is worth the short side trip. A few cold nights are in the forecast here. Best.
I enjoy your videos each day. You are very good at editing and filming while covering so much ground each day. I have settled on following 2-3 hikers this year but enjoy you and “Worth heading north” the most. Hard to know for sure but based on videos you seem to be 3-5 days behind him. It would be great to see you two meeting somewhere up the trail.
Thanks so much for the amazing views the last few days. You had a nice window of weather for the sunrises/sunsets. Pretty cool of Freshground to reach out to you and the subscriber shuttling you back from Kroger. Onward!
Another great video. Very cool that you made it back to where you did the short hike outside of Daleville on your way down to Springer. I remember that fun video of your trip down with your mom and friend. I'm sure it was a rush to make it back there.
Taylor the sunrise was coming up over the Peaks of Otter which is just 2 miles (as the crow flies) east of where we met you at Jenning's Creek with Freshground
Loved watching the videos! My two sons and I are going to have to drive a couple hours south and do that stretch of the trail later this summer! We'll bring bug spray!
Morning Taylor! What a perfect sunrise! Views on Views! Might screen cap a few images from your video for my screen saver! It is totally time for some bug spray! I just started carrying mine in my hip belt, tis the season! I remember you and Karen and Karen stopping at that section of trail! That was so cool you made it back! That burger looked amazing and your load out looks like some good eating for the next few days! Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. -Grateful
Did this section 3 years ago at Dixie's recommendation. I didn't know you could camp at McAfee Knob, we stayed at the campground right below it. Tinker Cliffs was my favorite of the Triple Crown sites and not near as buggy when we were there in July. Good choice on the Super Eight. We stayed at the Travel Lodge and while the people were nice it was, how should I say, not in the best condition! Enjoying your journey!
It's illegal to camp on the AT other than established shelters or camping areas. A lot of people do it. Problem with doing it in popular areas like McAfee Knob and Dragon's Tooth is it wears down the vegetation faster. The fire at Dragon's Tooth was especially disturbing to me. Totally against LNT principals. Don't recommend others try to duplicate this behavior.
Take a towel from the hotel and bring it to the grocery store. Have them double bag everything. String the towel through the bag handles. Swing the towel around your neck holding one end with one hand and the other hand holding the other end of the towel. If you do this, you have made a backpack to get your stuff home.
Boy, the bugs are bad. Great views. That is so cool you got back to the spot you already hiked. Did you realize you coming to it or did you just recognize the trail?
How'd that swarm of gnats work out? My wife was up there (McAfee's) Monday (she's the one who left you the bag) and said the gnats were pretty crazy. Looks like they were pretty heavy at Dragon's Tooth and the cliffs as well.
Hahaha, yes! I watch her vlogs of the morning.. she’s like “yes, we will be doing 20 plus today “ I’m like . I’ll be just trying to get out of bed and put some clothes on.. #goals.
Too early for mosquitos. They are either gnats (they don't bite) or black flies (they do bite and try to crawl into your eyes). Next is the No-See-Ums. Those bite and it itches. They look like flakes of pepper. Mosquitos are after all these hatch.
.6 miles down the trail there is a legitimate camping spot called the Pig Farm. Not a shelter (that's about 4 or 5 tenths further) but a large area with picnic table and fire ring. I know I camped there and hiked up the hill (twice) to get a sunrises on the Knob. Requires getting up and hiking in the dark.
Loving your vlogging style. Just have to ask if you worn your Mom an Dad before you go really close to the edge of those cliffs. It’s a parent thing , you may not live with use but we will protect you until the end . ❤️👍
Maybe you have something going on with your phone battery and powerpack. It's not like you're producing 30-50 minute videos. Most of your videos are under 10 minutes.
Might be an app running in the background. Nothing worse than getting to cell store & having it checked out and find out an app updated & just kept running.
Ehhhhhh got the feeling she's been doing the same amount of recording as she usually does @@tailgunnerhikes4703 . Having dealt with updated apps & finding out that some keep running in background after update then next update fixes running in background is what many have found to drain batteries at times. Look up Google or iPhone update draining battery, Aside from faulty updates, rogue apps are also found among the culprits or rapid draining on smartphone batteries.
I'd be curious if you have already had Covid or had your vaccination. If neither, hopefully you stay clear of it when your are visiting the towns and shopping/eating.
That's cool that Fresh Ground called you to make you breakfast. That's Trail Magic!!
I’m truly happy you all took time to take that beauty in. Love it!
Taylor keep on trucking ! Your enthusiasm is infectious !!!
Gorgeous sunrise shot. Cowboy camping the way to go!
AWESOME views today!
Epic Sunrise!
Good video with lots of great views, beautiful mountain ⛰ flowers 💐, nice sunrise 🌅, so let's keep on hiking 🚶♀️😀😊

After a failed summit push of yesterday have been dog tired but enjoyed a lot this hiking video.
It has been so cool to watch your journey through the AT.
Love the Three Little Pigs. Absolutely beautiful shoots of the sun. Sounds like you have a lot of food. lol.
I was lucky enough to catch sunset at Tinker Cliffs last year. So amazing, glad yours was badass too

She picked up bug repellent in Daleville. Starting to get to her ! Next two months is going to be awful as far as bugs go.
Watch your step that’s a long way down
Anyone know what type of yellow flower those were at 3:25 ?
Daffodils

Cool to see you experiencing cowboy camping!
The bugs were payback for that leave no trace fire at McAfee Knob.
Morning sunshine!
Good video taylor ,food looked good also, were those mosquitoes or just some sort of bug,ur making miles

Good luck hope you make Katahdin! Got to bail the trail is more interesting then this.
I’d likely lose my ability to cope with those swarming things. I’d have no choice but I’d lose my cool
👋
Was wondering why you were cringing... Then I saw the dots lol
Pro Tip: Pull your buff over your ears to keep the pesky bugs from buzzing in your ears.
Email sent Taylor when you get a free moment. Great work out there!
Hope you vacate those rocks before it gets too warm in the mornings. I'm sure you do not wish for a snake to crawl into the old sleeping bag.
