OREGON COASTAL RIVER - CHINOOK SALMON FISHING

- Water was in the drop after some rain that we had. I went out to fish for some coastal chinook and cohos. I didn’t see any cohos but managed to hooked 3 chinooks. Only two were filmed here. Not the best looking fish but I kept the hatchery fish, released the 2 natives. Fish were caught with cured salmon eggs.

Hey just a heads up,be careful letting your pup lick those salmon, all it takes is one drop of blood to make the pup sick enough to die.

It happened to one of my favorite Britineys back in the 80s. Once she got sick, there was no saving her hard as we tried.

I live on the Tillamook River and have had several dogs get salmon poisoning, all of them survived. The vets have a medication they can give the dog that is very effective and worked on every single dog that we have had get salmon poisoning. The vets in our area recommend that if you are going to have dogs that can get near fish to intentionally expose them them to it so you can watch for the signs during the incubation period and get them the medicine if needed.
Once they have been exposed and cured they are pretty much immune from then on out. There is a second strain of the bacteria that causes salmon poisoning so sometimes it will seem like a dog gets its twice but that is not the case. Also the second strain is very rare.
PS. Dogs can also get the exposed to the same bacteria that causes salmon poisoning through salamanders.

What rod and reel are you using ?
This one is Glamiglas x11 9’6 light action, reel is okuma C40. I’d recommend to get a beefier rod for salmon fishing purposes

How deep was the hole?
Deep lol. I was fishing about 9’ to my bobber stop, the fish came up and grabbed it

U should learn how to net fish with your left hand u wouldn't be switching hands,and u would have more control over the fish with your right arm and it would have been easier to net
