    Yesterday 5/5/23 I hit Cape Lookout, Mitchell Beach and the first beach I came to on my way towards Pacific City - where there's a modern house on pilons looking like it should be in Florida lol. Parking underneath it. Anyways - NADA! Ran into one guy who did well at Cape Meares. Have you done the hike down there to Cape Meares? Is it hikable all the way to the South Jetty Barview? Thinkin pump shrimp at low tide near Sand Lake then fish all day on the spit out there!? Whaddaya think about that plan? Problems?

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  Год назад +1

      That's a good plan to pump for live sand shrimps. They make good bait. I've been meaning to try Cape Meares one of these times. The place looks good, and is an easy hike. I used to do well at Garibaldi, on the beach north of the jetty. I haven't been back in a long while so I don't know how it is now. Good luck.

    I started commercial fishing for perch in the early 70's in Pismo. It's so much fun. I don't care for standing in the surf. I use a sand spike and sand crabs.

    If any of the Filipinos I know saw you do that, they would be running into the water to grab it. 😂
    I’m going to fish for the first time here in Oregon Coast since moving into area. Do you have any recommendations where my son and I could start? We’re just outside the Portland area. Sand Crabs have always been my father’s favorite-free bait. Thanks in advanced!!!

    • @SometimesTurtle
      @SometimesTurtle Год назад

      Bro, go to the sand bars that get covered by waves and then momentarily are free of water...I saw so many sand crabs burrowing back down after a wave, but I like to let all nature live and use artificial bait and do catch and release with a single hook. But there are many if that's your thing.
      I even caught one and gave it a little hello and goodbye lol.

    • @oregonlife

    • @ronmodafferi8202
      @ronmodafferi8202 Год назад +1

      @@oregonlife PK: That's really interesting and good information. The gulp sandworm is the go to for most all surf perch fishers. Maybe they should switch to using the gulp shrimp. Did you happen to switch those baits between the top and bottom hook? That would "secure/nail down" the test!!

      @@MrAcuta73 Hi: I'm not sure what the statistical protocol is whether catch one; switch baits locations or catch a couple/3 and than switch bait/locations. I guess it can be overwhelming obvious which works best or you need to catch 8-10.
