3 WAYS TO CATCH COHO SALMON - and WHAT NOT TO DO!

Here are some clips when fishing was a bit tough but we still managed to hook a couple fish. These are my top 3 methods to catch them. I would normally fish them in that order when I know there’s fish around.

CHINOOK SALMON FISHING - BOBBER DOWN FROM THE BANK

Fall fishing continues to be decent at the river. Cure salmon eggs under the bobber are the best and most fun way to fish for them. I was lucky the last couple trips. Now we wait for some rain to push the last wave of fish to come through.

Best day fishing at the beach for some red tail surf perch. We picked a good day to go and fishing was on fire. We had an action day packed day. We used razor clams for bait and the fish were baiting as soon as the ribs hit the water. We caught some big red tails on this trip. Awesome day!!

Fall fishing got off to a great start. I’ve been fishing for cohos using cured salmon eggs. Bobber fish when I find room and drift eggs when possible. There’s always a couple eggs lovers in the bunch. Since no one is using eggs around me, I like my chances 😎.

Here are a few clips of fishing for summer steelhead that I was able to land. I missed quite a few during these trips. It’s been a fun summer chasing steelhead this far, hopefully with more to come. P/S: green spin n glo has been on fire for me, with at least one hooked almost every trip, tipped with coon shrimp on size 1/O hook.

Crazy that you can identify the fish in the water but still don't know how to handle them properly. Dude, please get yourself a landing net and stop dragging them up on the rocks. About 50% of the fish you do that with will die within the week. Net them in knee-deep water and then release. Also, as others have said - hook size is too large. Should rotate between #4-#2 - try out some siwash hooks for better ratios.

Nice catch Vu! Those were some tanks!! How deep were you setting your bobber in that area? Man they were biting like trout, such light biters. Favorite bait for steelhead is a bead! 🤣 But in all seriousness, either coon shrimp, boraxed eggs, or store bought shrimp scented up are my favorites

@ the first two were in the mid column around 10ft. But we had to adjust bobber stop to touch the bottom almost to find the rest. And yes, it’s weird that the bite is so light even tho they swallowed the bait. Can’t wait for winter steelhead lol

scott is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT about leaving the hook in the fishes mouth and just cutting the line..... because that no games officer can argue that you snagged it or something else. (mind you... you have it on camera so in YOUR CASE you would just show him the footage).... but for others out there that fish and do not film their adventures... THIS IS A GOOD THING TO DO!!!! it could possibly save you FROM A BIG FINE!!!!! (reason I say this is because last season I caught a 11LB Coho nice and chrome but right on the tail, it had been snagged by someone else and had a jig stuck in its tail.... so when I landed the fish, I pulled my hook out of its mouth, pulled the jig out of its tail... and Bled the fish out and put it on a stringer..... 20 minutes later a games officer came down to check peoples fishing licenses and stuff, and he noticed my fish and immedietely said to me "ohhhh I see we are snagging fish and keeping them today are we?" in a very aggresive tone... and I had to explain to him that there was a jig stuck in the tail of the fish when I had caught it.... LUCKILY there was like 4 other people there and THEY ALLL vouched for me, and I even showed him my tackle I had brought and inside my backpack.... I HAD NOOO jigs, I was using a big ass float rod, I had a big bag of roe, floats, float stops, swivels, and once I showed him that he started to realize I was actually telling the truth about the situation.... and I CANT BLAME HIM for thinking I did it...... those fishing games officers LEGIT GET LIED TO ALLLLLL DAYYYYYY LONGGGG about this kind of stuff... I WAS LUCKYYYYYYYY is what I am trying to say.... from that point on, a guy told me after the officer left "hey buddy, a good way to avoid that problem in the future is to just cut your hook off and leave it in the fishes mouth" EVER SINCE THEN I ALWAYSSSS do that.
