  • In this video tutorial from Microsoft, you will receive of the different methods for activating Windows and how you can activate Windows using a digital license or a product key.
Activation helps verify that your copy of Windows is genuine and hasn’t been used on more devices than the Microsoft Software License Terms allow. If you are having problems activating Windows, you'll first want to find out if your Windows 11 is activated and linked to your Microsoft account.
It is essential that you link your Microsoft account to the Windows 11 license on your device. Linking your Microsoft account with your digital license enables you to reactivate Windows using the Activation troubleshooter whenever you make a significant hardware change.
Depending on how you got your copy of Windows 11, you'll need either a digital license or a 25-character product key to activate it. Without one of these, you won't be able to activate your device.
    - A digital license (called a digital entitlement in Windows 11) is a method of activation in Windows 11 that doesn't require you to enter a product key.
    - A product key is a 25-character code used to activate Windows. What you'll see is PRODUCT KEY: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.

I purchased Windows through MS store. Retail license is linked to my MS account. I can not install Windows as a virtual machine guest on Linux host. Even after uninstalling Windows from physical machine and removing that machine from my MS account. Phone support was a massive waste of 2 hours of broken English and transfers. What is the correct way to install Windows as VM guest with license tied to MS account?

I have no idea why I can't Activate Windows.
When I click on it, it says I have to do Windows Update which I've been trying for so long and it never happens. Troubleshooting isn't helping either. And because of this I can't anything on my Computer. I can't even use Microsoft Store, I can't download apps nor update them. This has become annoying. I hope you'd try helping me.
But I know you didn't understand what my problem is, because even I don't seem to understand what's happening.
    There's also this "Activate Windows
Go to Settings to activate Windows".
It's a watermark and it used to be extremely annoying but now I'm sort of used to it.
    Cortana isn't working as well.
    SOMEBODY HELP.
I seriously have no idea what to do right now.

    Hello.
I've bought a Windows 7 Ultimate Digital license (retail) a long time ago, so as the time pass it's upgraded to Win11 Pro and works fine.
What will happen if a bought a new computer with Win11 Home OEM pre-installed and use my currently Microsoft account (with my Win11 Pro license)?
The computer will be activated as Win11 Home or Pro?
I can have multiple licenses on my account?

Thank you for your reply, Henrique.
During activating your device, there is no option to choose which license to use, and you just simply sign in your Microsoft account credentials.
You have the option to view the devices where your licenses are activated if you visit this link: msft.it/60549bmXO and sign in your account.
In addition, if you will be purchasing devices with preinstalled/OEM license, you will not be able to see it on your account as it will not be tied up to it.

I had downloaded a free Windows 10 quite a long time ago as an operating system upgrade of Windows 7 was no longer going to be supported. Unfortunately I performed a System Restore as I normally did when I was having computer issues and Lost the free windows 10 system. My Computer indicated to me, today, Jan. 2, 2024, that I successfully downloaded the Windows 10 System, however I cant find, by the instructions, how to Activate it.? Can you help?

Hello there! We received your concern about a detail you identified while attempting to check your Windows 11 license on your built-in PC. Allow us to help you on this matter.
Technically, if your PC is built-in, and you purchased a Windows 11 license, your license should be displayed retail on the device.
Could you please send us a screenshot of the type of Windows license you have on your built-in PC? Here are the steps to obtain this information:
      1. Open Start and search for Command Prompt.
      2. Right-click the top result and select the Run as administrator option.
      3. Type slmgr /dlv and press Enter.
      4. Check the Product Key Channel line item in the Windows Script Host dialog. It will show you if your license is Retail or Volume.
We'll await your response and are delighted to assist you further when needed.

Thanks for your response. Product license are usually tied up to the motherboard if you bought the device itself as an OEM device because it's the manufacturers that normally do it.
If it was you who activated it after building your PC, it is still tied to your PC, but If it is not showing up using the app, you can validate it by checking the BIOS. It would also be good to check under your Microsoft account because when you activate the keys under your account, it becomes stored in the Microsoft server and is part of the so-called digital entitlement. Have you tried checking your account?
We will be here for your reply.

I'm using Windows 11 on Dell G15 and in Settings the activation state of Windows 11 Home is "Windows is activated with a digital license and linked to your Microsoft account"
    My doubts:
    1) If I update from Windows 11 Home to 11 Pro via Microsoft Store, will that still be a OEM key tied to hardware or the retail license key which I can use it on another machine if my current machine die in future. because when I ran command slmgr/dli , the description it has is OEM_DM channel ?
    2) After upgrading to 11 Pro via MS Store, will I be able to see Product key in my Microsoft profile dashboard ?

    • @MicrosoftCustomerSupport
      @MicrosoftCustomerSupport  4 месяца назад

Hi, Karthikeyan! Thank you for reaching out to us.
Per our understanding of your questions, you want to know if, after upgrading from Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro, the OEM key will still be tied to the hardware and if you can see the product key in your Microsoft profile dashboard.
The best way to upgrade from Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro is through the Microsoft Store. When you choose to upgrade through the Microsoft Store, it will detect whether your current Windows 11 Home edition is activated and then guide you accordingly.
To answer your questions, yes. If you upgrade from Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro, your OEM key is still tied to the hardware, and it's still valid. Once you activate Windows 11 Pro on a computer, the license is tied to that specific hardware. This means you cannot use the same activation key on multiple devices simultaneously. If you need to transfer your Windows 11 Pro license to another device, it’s generally possible if the license is a retail version and not OEM, but this transfer can typically only be done to one device at a time.
If you upgrade from Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro via the Microsoft Store, you will not receive a product key. The PRO license associated with your Microsoft account will still be there. If you purchased a retail Product Key for Windows 11 from the Microsoft Store it is a Digital License which has no key. Once installed, simply signing in to your Microsoft account will activate it.
We do hope that we have answered and covered everything here. Let us know if you have any clarifications.

    • @Karthikeyan-rp3tg
      @Karthikeyan-rp3tg 4 месяца назад

Thanks for the detailed explanation and prompt response.
Will the current OEM license key of Windows 11 Home will be converted as Retail license key (correct me if I’m wrong) or will it still be OEM key after upgrading to Windows 11 Pro through Microsoft Store.

    • @MicrosoftCustomerSupport
      @MicrosoftCustomerSupport  4 месяца назад

      That's a good question!
If you upgrade an OEM version, it remains an OEM version, and OEM versions can not be transferred to another computer.

Thanks for providing additional information. It appears that, following the previous workaround provided by HP support, you are now experiencing a blue screen error (BSOD). We appreciate your effort in trying to resolve this problem, and we are here to offer further assistance.
There could be several reasons why this issue occurs, such as a sudden problem with your drivers or data corruption that may occur if there’s not enough free space on the primary partition.
Windows can also fail due to a hardware issue. Therefore, it’s usually advised to unplug any accessories that aren’t absolutely necessary, like phones, printers, supplementary monitors, external hard drives, and other USB or Bluetooth devices. We recommend shutting down the computer first. Then, unplug any external devices or peripherals connected to your device. Once you’ve done that, turn on the computer and see if it no longer gives you random BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) errors.
To further investigate other possible avenues, we’d like to gather additional information.
      1. To check driver compatibility, can you specify the make and model of your device?
      2. Do you have at least 100 MB of free space on the drive where the operating system is installed?
Please let us know, so we can assist you better.

@@MicrosoftCustomerSupport Hello. Sorry that I did not get to you. I was busy for the last few days. I have answers to your questions:
      1. The computer did not have windows pre installed. I’m pretty sure that I bought a windows 10 pro license to activate it
      2. I tried creating a windows recovery media using the tool built into Control Panel on a working computer, but I can’t seem to find a way to view the product key from there.
      3. I checked the article you provided. I don’t have the original packaging that the product key came from.
      4. The computer was updating from version 1703 to 20H2, and failed midway with the error “Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware.”. While my computer was trying to restore to the previous windows version, there was a powercut which corrupted my windows installation. When I turn it on, it gets stuck in a boot loop where the windows tries to restore, fails, and restarts.

Thank you for providing the information we need. Since you mentioned that you purchased your Windows license, we suggest checking your Microsoft Account to see if it was tied with your account. We'd like to know: How do you get your Windows license? Is it pre-installed on the device, or did you purchase the license separately?
If you have an OEM or pre-installed license on your laptop, it is linked to its device hardware. You don't need a product key unless you or they want to change it.

      @MicrosoftCustomerSupport  4 месяца назад

Thank you for your quick response and for providing this information that you have digital license linked to your Microsoft account. To answer your questions, if you remove your Microsoft account from your laptop, the digital license linked to your account will be removed as well.
The new owner of the laptop will not be able to activate Windows using their Microsoft account. As a workaround, you can reinstall Windows with your Microsoft account then once done, switch it to a local account.
      Here’s how:
      1. Select Start, select Settings > Accounts > Your info.
      2. Select Sign in with a local account instead.
      3. Type the username, password, and password hint for your new account. The username must be different from any others on the device.
      4. Select Next, then select Sign out and finish. Sign back in with your new local account.
You can also refer with this link: msft.it/6058iUPGQ
Please keep us posted and let us know how it goes.

Hello. We've got your comment, and please know that we only support the English language on this platform and continue communicating using the English language, however, we'll try to translate the message in English as much as we can.
It appears that you are having trouble with your Windows license, and we understand that you want your Windows license that came with the computer. Let us look into this, and we'll do our best to help.
For insight, the message you received from Windows about your license expiring soon is a reminder that your Windows license is not activated or is about to expire. This can happen if Microsoft cannot certify the validity of your Windows license, or if your Windows license is not genuine or is incompatible with your computer. So, we'll ask some questions to narrow down this issue.
      1. When did the issue start? Are there any changes made to the device, like hardware or software replacements?
      2. Do you have a copy of your Windows license product key, which is 5x5 alphanumeric?
      3. What is the build and version of Windows currently running on your computer? (Press the Windows logo key + R, type winver in the Open box, and then select OK).
      4. Have you tried any steps to address this issue? Please let us know, so we can check what other options we have to provide.
