This book over shot my expectations by a mile. My mom randomly recommended it to me awhile ago. Chauncey was my favorite character.
Yeah hard agree on Chauncey being the best!
I'm torn between picking Chauncey, Sal, Talia, Lucy, Arthur and even Linus
@@SilverScribe85 haha love it
Yes glad this one creeped up on you like it did me! We felt the exact same way about it, pleasant but not groundbreaking, a solid 4/5 read that’s refreshing compared to the usual grim fare that we end up consuming so much of the time
Yeah a good palate cleanser!
Haven’t read them yet but have seen The Tea Dragon society recommended. Watched a super hero comic serious fan fall over in love with this cosy trio of graphic novels.
So I am suspecting a similar vibe as THITCS, with something just different and adorable.
This book was so heartwarming. I read it after a really bad day at work and had a smile on my face the entire time.
Did you read it in one sitting?
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews Pretty much all of it yeah, cozy reads are a great palette cleanser after the darker series I normally read.
I was calling it a Pixar book for awhile, but I like cozy fantasy way more.
I kind of like your name too!
Hearing you talk about the book brought up lots of great memories I have from reading it myself but the fact that I had to be reminded shows that it wasn’t my favorite read. The kids have amazing traits and personalities and you really learn to love them but they isn’t much more about the book in my opinion
Yeah...well stated!
Hi 👋 good review video!! Happy reading to u! 🎥📽🎞
Thanks Safina!
Honestly, I would've loved this book if it was all just about Linus navigating the bureaucracy of his job. The beginning of the book was so subtly funny to me. The orphanage was fine, but it was a mood shift that completely changed the tone of the book
This sounds like a super fun read. If you are looking for more out of the box fantasy books, I highly recommend the city of dreaming books by Walter Moerse. He is a German author but the translations of his books are really good.
Thank you!
Told you! Nothing amazing. It’s not meant to be. It’s an incredibly simple book, but it’s just so damn charming and lighthearted.
Yeah well said.
I heard that book talks about the colors and emotions, they are so well explained. I'm curious about it
Yeah, check it out!
Sorry haven’t been commenting lately cause I’m super busy at Disney (lol). This is totally on my radar (I even have already purchased it), and if even you think it’s good, I’m definitely gonna 5 Star plus favorite it
No worries, and I hope you enjoy it!
I have that book on my list
I hope you enjoy!
I have very mixed feelings about this book. It was happy, easy, cute. But the author has said that his inspiration for the story was Canadian residential schools. If you aren't familiar with these school they were horrific places and possibly the darkest stain on Canadian history.
So through that lense this story is about a white government worker becoming the savior of first nations children. Which is just so far off from actual history. I do understand that the book is not truly about residential schools, but consider how you would feel if it were concentration camps that the author had changed around and turned into a happy, feel good book. It just left me with an icky feeling.
Without spoiling anything, the author very much takes a negative view on these schools. I think critics of those schools will particularly enjoy this book.
