    I just hope Steam Deck 1 is supported for at least 5 years, it finally gives us a bottom line that developers are forced to optimize their games for (and Valve does stand to benifit from that significantly), that aspect would be numbed down if they just put out a new Deck every year.

      It will still work well for a very long time, and even if games have higher minimum specs turn on fsr and let that bih do it's thing. Or sideload windows or another os. The community will still sizable even 10 years from now so unless it's anticheat or something there will likely be fixes

    - Steam Deck
    - Steam Deck BLU _(smaller)_
    - Steam Deck Force _(minor upgrade)_
    - Steam Deck 2 _(major upgrade, different case)_
    - Steam Deck 2: Gen 1 _(straight upgrade)_

      @@pieceofschmidtgamer I disagree. The Steam Deck came out with Zen 2 three years after the Ryzen 3000 launch. I'd expect the Steam Deck 2 to follow the same trend of using an older design.

      @@NigelMelanisticSmith it came with a 4000 series chip which was the latest laptop cpu in the production phase of steam deck and also i think it as a RDNA2 gpu in it? so not so older design? not sure about the last claim tho

    • @pieceofschmidtgamer
      @pieceofschmidtgamer 2 года назад +15

      @@NigelMelanisticSmith You can't compare the two situations. The reason why the current Steam Deck uses Zen 2 instead something more recent is most likely it took 3 years to get a written agreement with AMD to supply Valve with chips for the Deck because of the unproven nature of the Deck and you can bet your bottom dollar that it's not going to take 3 years to convince AMD again if Valve's predictions for the Deck come true.
      And if Valve waits 5 years for the Steam Deck 2, which is very possible (it may not be what you want, but that doesn't make it any less possible), then it definitely won't be Zen 3/4 because 3 came out last year and 4 is coming this year.
      Accounting for a 5 year release cycle for the Steam Deck, even if you take a 3 year gap between what's current and what's actually in the Deck 2, you're talking about a 2024 time frame for this decision to be made. Accounting for the yearly release of Ryzen generations, 2023 will likely be Zen 5 and 2024 would be Zen 6.
      So you're talking Zen 5/6 for the Steam Deck 2.
      Of course, I'm not thinking the Steam Deck 2 will even be the next Deck to be released. It's possible that there could be a "Pro" model that's basically a drop in upgrade (similar to the Retroid Pocket 2+) for the current Deck in a couple of years that utilizes Zen 3/4 and introduces Direct Storage support. Maybe even ups the RAM amount. But that's technically not the Deck 2.
      Is that cheating? Maybe. If you don't like it, blame Sony and Microsoft for laying that precedent last generation.

    • @universegaming1353
      @universegaming1353 2 года назад +8

      @@pieceofschmidtgamer Also, just to add. Zen 5 is the perfect architecture for a mobile device like the Steam Deck 2 because it utilizes the big.LITTLE design which is common for ARM SoC's but is now utilized by an x86 Manufacturer. Plus the peformance AND efficiency improvements of either RDNA3 or RDNA4.
      All-in-all, Steam Deck 2 is going to be an absolute monster of a device. Just hoping they opt for a much larger capacity of the battery. Preferrably closer to 50Whr.

    In the future the starlink satellites may serve as a backhaul for cell towers too. This announcement was about your phone will talk directly to starlink satellites no matter where you are in the world (providing individual countries give permission I guess) as long as you have a clear view of the sky. The new Starlink satellites will be equipped with 25m^2 antenna (5x5 meters) which will enable this tech. Of course because its still a huge distance for the signal to travel, and depending on how many users are connected to a satellite, you will probably only be able to text and possibly make calls. But still, it basically eliminates dead zones everywhere for users. Pretty cool.

    so when it comes to 2fa there's another level to the story. SMS based auth is vulnerable to sim swapping of course, but there is another kind of auth that's even easier to defeat, and its app based. Push notifications. If all you have to do is click approve for the 2nd factor that can be exploited by the attacker signing on at the beginning of the day when you're signing into things and see the second one as probably just another login you did that morning, who knows you haven't had your coffee yet, better accept so you can get to work. Auth apps that make you type a code or a 2fa usb key are the best ways to go, personally I'd recommend the usb key.

      It's too bad google intentionally crippled 2fa keys in android by not including webauthn support in webview and forcing the egenral android webauthn into google services instead of letting everyone use it. It's probably the most frustrating thing I've noticed that they've done.

    New version doesn't really mean it would be a steam deck 2 it could just me some improvements to the original of the system you know like a 1.5 version of the system like replacing certain things that has been breaking in people's systems just like how i saw a video of someone dropping their steam deck and the right trigger wasn't working anymore because of a cheap plastic that was used for it.
    Also for a new version they could be releasing a lite version as it could be smaller and a little weaker and more affordable for people that would want the system to play small light titles like maybe games as Katana Zero as an example because for a lot of people i know that owns a SD right now are mainly using it to play their favorite indie titles on the go and of course would rather play the game at a constant 60fps instead of owning something like a Switch that might get them only 30fps (also i love my Switch so i am not hating on it).
