Believe it or not: Ski ballet was Olympic once! It was a demonstration sport in the 1988 and 1992 Winter Games. We bring you the women's final from Albertville 1992!

A very different sport & there aren't many artistic sports at the Olympic level, apart from figure skating in the winter. In the summer there's only gymnastics, rhythmic & syncro swimming.
Nah this just looks stupid, it's impossible to look cracious and pretty dancing with ski, I wouldn't really mind a version with just different, difficult tricks and without stupid music and the need to make it look "pretty ".
@@teijaflink2226 We already have difficult tricks, most competition is literally how many rotations can they do without ending their careers. Like most things, if people are willing to watch it, it should exist as a competition.
This sure brings back memories! Back in the day, I took the first ballet skiing class offered at the University of Utah. It was to be taught by champion ballet skier Jan Bucher. She showed up for the first class and introduced her TA, who actually taught the class, while she went off to work on another championship. In the class a bunch of expert skiers put on child-size skis and did spins on the kiddie run at Alta. It was funny to watch expert skiers falling on the kiddie hill. 😊
I don’t understand why you (the Olympics) only had this as a demonstration event. This is a really interesting sport to watch and it definitely takes a lot of skill- it’s figure skating, skiing, and gymnastics all in one! But thanks to you never recognizing it as an official Olympic event, interest never picked up fully and slowly the sport died away. Now not even the skiing organization recognizes it as a sport anymore. So sad! You should bring this back once more as a demonstration event and allow people to see this again!
the simple answer as to why it was in the Olympics is because it was incredibly technical, strenuous and artistic. I was in the sport and specialized in tht arena 1971-1975.

I personally think the title of this video doesn't make justice to the athletes. Plus, how come only the female athletes were ridiculed in this video? I believe it's not fair at all. I know you put other ski ballet videos featuring male athletese, but come on.

This is amazing, and I can’t help but feel it would be so much better if it weren’t trying to be theatrical and dance like, like ballet and figure skating. Like maybe ditch the costumes, corny jazz, and all the dramatic posturing, and just focus on the flow of how amazing the tricks are without all the fluff drama
I saw clips of this here and there and thought people were just goofing off during downtime. I should have known people actually dedicated training time into this from what they can do.

I completed in freestyle skiing in the late 80s and this was a certainly a thing. Aerials, moguls and ballet wher what you did. I hated ballet and I'm glad it died. The poles are like 5 foot long reinforced poles that you can put all your weight on.
I was forced to do it.

This was Okey as a sport but for summer Olympics the real ballet is considered as an artistic performance so can't be added. Break dancing is however a sport.
Olympic isn't about sports, it's about sponsorship and money and which sport can sell better!

If demonstration sports would count as olympic then Bowling would have been in olympics to (In Seoul 1988 f.ex) Demonstration Sports are NOT part om the olympic programme.....
Ski Ballet was one of three events in freestyle skiing among with Aerials and Moguls... only those two were on Olympics... Moguls in 92 and Aerials from 1994....
In Albertville also Curling and Speed Skiing was demonstration....
