Just had a 90+ vs 90+ fight on miller today. Tanks on hills, dogfights over the base, gal drops etc. And me just trying to get to A point with my jetpack. Until another game can give that experience, Planetside is not going to die.

im very tempted to come back but i only played for a couple years on and off so im concerned im just gonna get popped by long time vets.. i think that probably puts off complete noobs although thats an issue with any game thats been around for a while
@@awakeandwatching953 That really depends on when you are playing and where you are on the map. The vast majority are not that good at the game or at aiming, but you can run into a squad or 2 of high skill vets.. which can be though. I feel that a few hours before primetime is usually a good time to not have organized vets all over the place ;)
@@awakeandwatching953 It's a bit worse for PS2, because everyone is fighting everyone, so there is no MMR system to give players fair opponents.
Still, there are a lot of regular players running around, and therefore a lot of fun to be had, even if you haven't spent every free minute of the last two years grinding this game.
My advice: Download it and try for a bit, you'll get back into it fast.
@@awakeandwatching953 I'd just like to say that while yes, veterans will have access to some fun things that a returning player or total noob may not, I don't believe any of it is game breaking. Planetside 2 sets up noobs with, in my opinion, a fantastic start. Now, if you're trying to play solo, especially as a noob, I can see some issues. Even a God tier FPS player is going to have trouble soloing PS2 when he's at big fight. The very first thing you should do is find an active squad that's communicating and working together. Look for outfits running open ops and test drive the outfit. Ask around about good outfits. Whatever path you take, I believe that to truly enjoy this game you have to play with an organized group. You don't have to be sweaty all the time but teamwork and communication is what gets the job done.
Literally the only way this game can be replaced is if DICE comes out with a persistent-world Battlefield game. DICE makes better maps and combined arms gameplay, but the fact that Battlefield games are still session shooters still held them back. PlanetSide has cracked the formula since 2003 and I'm still waiting for the big boys in the industry to go all in on this formula 20 years later.

Arsenal update was the one with 42% gain, not oshur. Oshur was notable because the population didnt even have a temporary swell of population which is what used to happen for a content update.
Planetside 2 is a game that just makes me return onto the fields of Auraxis again and again. The constant war where everyone is trying their best to overthrow eachother is giving that vibe no other game can offer. God bless the devs and loyalty until death!
as a person who grinded out on playstation, all the way to max rank max asp, then swapped to PC. i can say strongly that the game can run strong for years. even with lower pop it just changes the pace and playstyle. i sometimes miss the small 24 on 24 fights where skill was in much higher demand to take a base. you remember faces and names so much more. there is still alot of life left in the game.
You say that, and I have experienced it too. Yet for a few or more years the pop is mainly TR. Funny thing is they have mosquitoes. Yes and dominate the air. But some how lower pop we have fought back and won more then I could ever have imagined. Now imagine equal pop. Lmfao 😅😂😂😂😂
Hey, I play on Ceres (EU PS4) and it's a blast. Although we only get maximum 100-160 people online at once, its still enjoyable. The firefights feel amazing and the nature of having a small player population feels natural, it makes the game feel more tactical where you have to discuss with your outfit and squad where is best to assault or if you should focus on defending a certain base instead. I could imagine the massive battles PC Players get to experience, but the PS4 Servers are alot more Homey. Shoutout to Commandoo!

Omg I literally love it when you recognize people after years. I love these smaller fights as much as the bigger battles. The game for me is perfect and it will always draws my attention to it.
You need to come to the PC.
I played one game called Eternal Crusade for quite a while. It supposed to be a massive mmo shooter like PS2 but degraded to 20vs20 session shooter with 3 objectives to hold to win on a hexes like Crossroads Watchtower or other 3 point hexes we all know. When that dream of 40k great shooter finally become dead and rotten, servers were near to be closed i had a bright idea to try Planetside 2 in 2020. I hated it so much at start because that game had a punch in my face repeatedly for months. Now im a big fan of planetside and i dont need trash like BF or CoD to replace it. They simply cant match freedom and hugeness of PS2.
The 20v20 was better than being a PS2 copy
WH40k game on a scale of PS2 is too glorious for us mere mortals to handle I guess.

I thought about this too, and got concerned in general for Planetside just because it's old and people don't see it. It's truly a hidden gem. I played so many hours until 2017 where I moved across the country, and somehow I just forgot about it for 4 years. Life gets in the way.
But you know what does give me hope. Just the other day, a few coworkers were talking about games on the other side of the office and one of them... brought up that "they got a random video in their YT feed for Planetside". So apparently one of them checked it out. Then another. Then another. And now tonight I can say I have happily inducted them into the life of going through all the whole thing as a squad lead, squad ops, and they all LOVED IT. One of them even mentioned buying a sub because of the Indar queue.
Planetside might not have the resources of battlefield to do ads, and without more major marketing eventually it will slowly succumb... but y'all youtubers, when you put out each video about this beautiful game, some new people do get to hear about it and it spreads.
I agree that Planetside 3 is what we need and I agree that it will eventually be made. Not today, not tomorrow, but someday it will come around. Might not even need an engine change like some claim. Look at what Crowbar Collective did with Black Mesa and Source. All I can say is that when PS3 does launch, I'll be there.
I don't think you can compare planetside 2 engine to valve/steam's source engine that have been continually build upon for what 10-15 years? by one of the biggest and most successfull companies with half life and counter strike and all the community stuff that has happened with the SDK and all that. Not to be a negative a-hole but i imagine source is way more "up to date" and have just had way more resources invested in it, but i might be wrong im not engineer. I truly also wish for a planetside 3, just a modern launch basically so the game get's a new and fresh cycle with how popular big lobby games have become and just how far the tech is now a days imagine what they could achieve with a proper budget considering how old planetside 2 already is and how big and impressive it was back in the day.
I want a PVE mode with inter-faction cooperation. Something like the original Vanu returning, or a flood of rogue NS AI's trying to exterminate all organic life. I think it'd be fun.
Only time I saw something like this was through the ghost ship event last year. All factions ganging up on an AI bastion while still trying to kill each other. Hella fun.
And new underground cave system where they come from in a mode called invasion or something..could be a move forward..i wonder why no 2 man jetski in this game.

It's finally got some kind of competition with Foxhole: Both are persistent large scale PVP, one just has set matches between 2 sides while the other is more dynamic between 3.
When companies compete, the consumer wins.
I would love to see the battle flow of foxhole carried into Planetside somehow. The materials mining is to slow in Foxhole for me - but I think they could make cortium mining fast and engaging enough to create a little bit of logistics and roll it from there.

Fell in love with game at first sight. Infantry running on the battlefield, tanks bullets flying over your head, aircrafts dropping bombs and shooting at each other and in the middle of this chaos there's you, with the freedom to do whatever you want to make a difference. Sandbox and fps... What a match
I mean, Yes? By definition, it is as they made back the initial investment in 2015, iirc.
I am aware I am past the point of having value on their player profit curve, so there's little for me to gain complaining anyway when Oshur gets "finished" in a few weeks.
Disregarding criticism of updates as the talk of "trolls" represents the game's primary problem: veteran players and their leaving creating a void in the game regarding knowledge and leadership ability. Every bad update (PS4, Construction, CAI, Storm Esamir, and Oshur) leads to players leaving.
I do not consider it to be just "trolls talking shit" when the PS4 has become an outright inferior game and caused damage to the development of the PC version.
I do not consider it to be just "trolls talking shit" when Construction and VPs were the final straw for numerous outfits and players that rapidly saw servers degrade.
I do not consider it to be just "trolls talking shit" when vehicle players left in mass or when delicate vehicle balance is blown up to reduce damage types (and they still have not finished this).
I do not consider it to be just "trolls talking shit" when Storm Esamir ignores base design and battle flow principles in favor of NEWSTUF, not to mention their centerpiece becoming ignored and irrelevant to the map.
I do not consider it to be just "trolls talking shit" when the entire server avoids Oshur like the plague because it once again ignores base design and battle flow principles in favor of NEWSTUFF.
You may dismiss these as a cost of doing business or a consequence of the game's age, but every leader leaving can and has taken away entire outfits worth of players, leading to servers to begin to collapse in on themselves as competition on the server and among the individual factions disappear with very few outfits accumulating so much experience and knowledge the rest of the server suffers because of it.
Moreover, I present these personal anecdotes to you:
At the height of COVID-19, a few old Emerald outfits reappeared on the server again. Do you know what they discovered? The same problems that drove them out of the game still existed and seemed stacked on each other. They were not opposed to NEWSTUFF, but rarely did it fit into the game or cause different gameplay behaviors. Add NEWSTUFF: and never iterate.
The greatest value they brought to the game was simply by playing it. Do you know what I would give to experience another Summer 2015 Friday Night Alert? Again and again, we'd destroy some poor VS pubbies trying to capture Ghanan Tech Plant. We'd cle`ar the inside, pull Fury buses to kill their armor, capture the satellites, and leave. We'd keep repeating this until GOKU arrived to end the fun. I have been chasing that moment ever since. I touched it briefly in the 1TR-KN1-69KD match.
Great. Now, we're down to one continent and Oshur on the largest servers. Connery? Those poor souls. Soltech? Even poorer souls. PS4? What is there to say?
RPG keeps producing dud updates. I had much more hope at the height of Escalation (although it will be impossible to separate its impact from its timing with COVID-19). Oshur and Esamir effectively suck the enjoyment out of the game for me, and they are a significant reason why I have so little interest in playing outside of OPS or other events. Do I have no value beyond being a "troll talking shit?". Or, are my feelings and opinions on the game noise in the larger picture since I have already been a good soldier following orders on Auraxis, making sure there is content for others?
Even on PS4, where the game has largely been abandoned since the Arsenal Update, the game itself is so self-sustainable that I can't imagine it ever dying naturally before the server does.

I and many others tried our best to put eyeballs on this game with all the gaming articles, PSB events, streaming, VOD content, podcast episodes, interviews. I agree, we can't stop the inevitable decline without that focused marketing help from DBG. Still, it's a great game, it has life left. And I still love it.
Fuck marketing, DBG needs to put PS3 into full production.

Best game made, I too wish they spent more on marketing, with a game so hard to get into as a new player it should be of the upmost importance, the more people who come in the more who stay just based on raw numbers. That and fixing bugs and broken things. Fixing bugs is what gets people staying.
It's amazing how you still don't know that marketing and new players isn't the issue. It was ALWAYS the retention. Why wasting money on marketing if the players don't stick.

You're right on 42%. But the 2020 is clearly Escalation - Sure pandemic helps, but people don't show up because of that. The population didn't fall back down for 6 months after that.
I hadn't realised Wrel's been in charge for so long. That ol' Tempus really does Fugit! I'll never, ever understand why EA Games didn't take one look at Planetside 2 and say, "We can copypaste this into the BF2142 universe lol" - its the only thing that would've ever tempted me away from Auraxis! :D
As a console veteran, I don't want this game to die ever. It's the only glue holding together my gaming life (and the only thing I do in my free time) together.

I absolutely love this game. I've had such incredible moments that I've had no where else. It's sad to me that I try and bring my friends (who love FPS games like COD) to play this game they won't even give it a chance.
Although the veterans absolutely wreck me in fights, I still love the mass battles fighting for buildings and defending points.
Truly a gem, a mountain of a game that others are unable to achieve or even come close to, the scale, the excitement, the mayhem.
Truly this game has no equal and that is why it's community is so strong because we recognize that.
Great video. Kind of bitter sweet. Still remember being so excited when we first saw videos of construction when it was WIP. Nice game.
Usually the only way to keep an old title going is to open it up to the modding community. Planetside 2 needs to find a way to allow modders to make their own improvements/content, while being able to prevent god mode hacks at the same time… very difficult, but if you develop a platform that allows the installation of selected and approved mods like Skyrim special edition, it’s made much easier and it will definitely aid the game devs especially if they’re a small team. A lot of new games are now adopting this model and allowing modders to profit too, which also incentivises them to make quality content and the devs to receive commission and profit themselves. This would open up a new “hype” within a well established community, i think.
Games like Roblox and Fortnite. Want a new map? Allow the modders to make it. Want a new vehicle? Or even game mode? You get the point.
Personally riding this til the very end of the game.
There is literally no game coming out that is ever going to satisfy the way this game is.
All good things must come to an end, but be happy they happened is all I can say.
In my top 5 favorite games and gaming experiences lives Planetside 2. Had no idea Wrel was as big of a driving factor for this beloved game. Huge thank you to him for making some of my favorite moments in gaming ever.
3:02 "devs are still actively working" from the perspective of a console player I don't share the same sentiment, the last big update we got or really the last update we got was the arsenal update. I feel that at this point everyone has forgotten console ps2 even still exists and is still active, there is still a lot of fun stuff Going on but there are still alot of struggles. Like for instance we don't have Esamir, we haven't gotten an auraxmas event for 2 years and alot of other issues. I guess the point of me talking about this is I just want more attention on the console side of things, cryious or any media creator of ps2 please consider looking at the console ps2 it may not mean it to pc players but for me and alot of other console players it means so much to see mentions of the console version anywhere.

I joined Auraxis back in 2018. I don't remember how I found the game, it probably just popped up in my steam recommendations and I decided to give it a whirl. I do remember you being one of the first voices introducing me to the mechanics in your beginner's guide videos. I just want to take a moment to say thanks for being an onramp for so many into this beautiful mess of a game. Also, 21:36 was a very cinematic end to the dialogue, nice editing!

My experience is that most outfits are not friendly or welcoming of casual players or players without mics. Its do what i say right now and crash your game every 30mins because they need you to respawn 8 times in less than 5 mins.
have not been playing planetside 2 in months. IF a planetside 3 should come, I would be there from the start again!
There was a time a few years back where the servers were so incredibly laggy that I just couldn't play anymore. It was absurd. I had been playing since Alpha and had thousands of hours in the game at that point but once that server situation hit, I put the game down and have never really found a way back in. It's a shame, because at its peak, it was really something special. I don't know if it's a good thing or bad thing that Wrel is still with the game. I remember walking to work one morning and chatting with him a bit on Reddit about the game and that feels like a very long time ago indeed. I hope he's able to parlay this into something good. He's paid his dues.
Just re-downloaded the game yesterday after not playing it for about two years and they have added so much to it. First game back I am in hour long stand still battle trying to capture the Crown on Indar. We are climbing the hill tirelessly with the New Conglomerate raining hell down on us. Then when all hope seems loss we get another squadron come by with air units decimating the enemy team and we capture the crown. One of the coolest experiences you can have in a live service game. My only complaint about the game is that it just seems really hard to kill people and very easy to get killed. I'm level 25 so it's not like I don't have a good implants or anything. Like you kind of mentioned the specialty weapons are a big part of that. Other than that though I love the game and am so glad to get back into it.

Really like the highlighting what he did. I think it’s important to note too that Wrel was big in the content creator side as well before his transition, if not for his videos I would have never gotten to over 1000 hours in PS2. And they’d stayed some of the most popular videos for years after the transition.
NC Forever, Space America for freedom
I played between 2012-2017 but stopped and then resumed playing planetside 2 once I got my own gaming laptop. Between 2012-2017 i was in AOD in TR faction. Now i primarily play NC in addition to TR faction. I must say, this game had truly survived the test of time despite not being in the mainstream space of gaming, it's impressive. Maybe we should try to make the game more exposed to the mainstream. It would be wonderful to have more chaotic battles again.

Inspiring. Everyone that hears PS2 immediately says "oh isn't it dead?" And I bite my tongue thinking of a 99v99 fight that I lost all my sleep on. If they did a 3 it would be fresh and new and so many people would give it a chance. Devs just need to take a page from the overwatch 2 fiasco
Duuuuude I remember playing this so much with my friend late night. It was the greatest moment when he told me to download it
A couple things. I remember when you started streaming PS2. Keep it up. Second, I played in Beta and played almost up to now. A decade of my adult life has included this game which I have loved, hated, and still recommend to people who have never heard of it. I've stepped away I'm tempted to re-learn it but I don't know if I have the energy.
One thing that I remember pretty well is the old "alerts sounds" of triggering generators and SCU''s... oh man the old ones are far better than the new. PS2 will never die and will forever in our hearts.
Makes me think of the Young Guns Billy the Kid monologue about the end of the world. Seems like a whole lot of us are saying, "I will finish the game!"

Great video. New player here that accidentally came upon the game in December. Fell in love with the game and now have my new addiction. I love the video because ...even though being a new player and my opinion mean nothing, I like creators that don't continually bash the game. Here for the rest of the ride.

As someone who occasionally floats by this community on my way through life, it's really interesting to see something like this prosper. I never stuck around because I always felt like I had time for the game only at its low points. That "Just a few months ago people were coordinating tactical shield walls with MAX's".
I did get curious though. If what this game needs to keep running is a third installment, what could they do to keep it fresh & not just a coat of paint? Personally, if you're interested, I would be interested in seeing a video on what changed between Planetside 1 to Planetside 2, as a prospective as to what they could do to make Planetside 3 a worthwhile development & not a cash grab off of the fame of Planetside 2. I could easily see this game falling into a TF2 esc state, where the servers keep going because of fame & profits but nothing is done to update the game for massive swaths of time while there's no 3rd in the series anywhere in sight. So a video explaining what has improved to see what could improve in a 3rd installment in the series could be very insightful.
Just figured I'd toss the video idea out there. Something I lack the time to research myself but would find to be a neat video idea.
Looking at specific areas of the game paints a very different picture. Where are the a2a pilots? the tank mains? where are the dedicated armor squads? All these playstyles got ruined and most everyone, including the vets, have quit long ago. Funnily enough, the reason you don't see too many posts anymore on reddit is because people moved on so long ago, at one point they gave up complaining
Yeah, the game certainly isn't for everyone. You would expect the people that don't enjoy it anymore to not be playing. Doesn't change that it has successfully entertained a huge audience long after those people left.
Vehicle controls, especially aircraft, and *especially* ESFs range from OK, to abysmal. Driving a sunderer works fine, a flash not so much. Aiming control of most of the tank main guns sucks. Flight controls are generally bad, but can be tolerated on aircraft other than ESFs. Trying to be effective with an ESF, especially in A2A is where the problems with flight and turret controls culminate in an abysmal experience. My biggest complain is that you cannot customize it, not even the hideously large deadzone on mouse inputs. Give me something like the control customization in Elite Dangerous, and I will be flying a lot more.
Even if the game for whatever reason becomes less fun, the social aspect will keep a lot of people going too.
Once all servers eventually merge and there's like, 3-4 prime times, that social factor will become even stronger in keeping the remaining players.

If PS2 was still updated on console, I'd rejoice with you, but we're hurting badly, hopefully they'll just change the updates on console to be more... player creator driven. So they don't have to update as often. Maybe custom missions that vet players can put their near infinite certs into.
Man, ive been here either since my freshman or sophomore year on planetside 2 on ps4. I sorta stopped playing about maybe... 3/4 after graduation in 2021. Longest time ive ever played a game and i got back on today and had lots of fun. I miss my outfit HadZ. I miss the people i meet along the way. Had no beef with anyone in game and sorta just had fun all and all. Im back, and im happy of that! However can we please get more updates for ps4. I see that new tank turrent you have and apparently that was 7 months ago. We still dont got that XD

I built my first PC 2 months ago with the help of a buddy. He has been telling me about Planet Side for years, I am currently at 4days 11hours of play time and have been enjoying my experience quite a bit. No complaints, prices are what they are, dont like it, dont buy it. I buy DBC because I can, I enjoy the game, I hope it helps keep the game alive and well, I'm 10 years behind lol. I hope the game lives for a long time to come, because I will still be here.
I used to have this game with a subscription of $112 for 12 months, but I also played this game for Free too.
Also the only way to add a new life to this, is if an actual Alien Civilization came into play in this game.

The day Hossin dropped was an amazing day and back then i feel like the game was more interactive with the people of the game, Anyone here from back in the first change over from PS1 to PS2
Love this game and i'll probably play it till the servers go down. I just wish that playstation (the platform i play on) had a better population since its mostly a closed off continent 90% of the day. If playstation actually promoted it instead of making it hard to find in the playstation store more people might play it. Maybe a next gen update could help the population.
I still come back to PS2 from time to time.
I don't play it as seriously and for as long as I used to, but I can't say I come back to other shooters as I do this game.
It offers experiences and feelings like no other, and I'm glad the devs and community stuck with it.
I'm not playing at the moment because of Lent, but when I am playing, I log off if Oshur is the only continent during low population hours. Even if I change from Connery to Emerald, it's usually also low population hours and also Oshur only.

The thing that got me stuck in planetside 2 is the freedom. You cant get bored in this game, there is allways somrthing to do
The problem with Planetside 2 for me is that the game has 'kind of' run its course.
I've done as much as I could with the game, I may not be the best leader or shooter but eventually the fun kind of winded down. The game began to become a 'need' compared to being a 'choice' to play on my spare time.
Not sure if a sequel to Planetside 2 will ever arrive, but on occasions I will come back to play the game. Especially when a new major patch comes out.
It has been a fun ride, I never regret playing this game and I'll enjoy it while it lasts.
planetside hasnt done it all until i am able to board a bastion making valks useful and explore the inside of the bastion. idk capture point or destroy the engine room. reach the bridge and kill the captain and crew.

I was a veteran of planetside 1, it was my favorite game. Then I stopped playing video games for quite a few years after it was shut down. I got into planetside 2 only a couple of years ago and it really makes me wish that I had gotten back into it sooner. I pray for a planetside 3 in the future, how incredible it could be!
The basilisk is the most beautiful sound in PS2.
There's more powerful guns, there's more iconic guns, there's more interesting guns. But the basilisk represents one thing. Someone is in a vehicle, and they're shooting at something while something is happening. You don't bring the basilisk to do anything intentionally. It's a mostly defensive weapon. It means that there's an attack, and there's a counter attack. There's probably some blueberry manning that gun and they might not be hitting anything but chances are there's more than two people in that fight. The more basilisks, the better.
Wouldn't call it "success" by any stretch of imagination, as the game has had stable pop numbers since 2019; surviving until now is a noteworthy achievement, though.
The only thing left to do now, really, is coast until EoS as was the case for Blacklight: Retribution and other FPS titles. Otherewise, the only way to conceivably turn the IP around would be to license any underlying patents and hire new developers to design a Planetside 3.
QoL would be appreciated (especially as it pertains to the map), but the UI nor the style of play needs a massive overhaul (doing so would kill the game, as the Parity patch did for Blacklight). At most, re-introducing public squads and a more visible squad menu (imagine being able to create and/or join 1-man squads as a blueberry; new players would organically just clump together instead of being folded into a dwindling number of outfits) would help for letting new players through the door. Fiddling with the fundamentals, such as with vehicle spawns from the map menu, would only harm the game.
What is eos
The only game that "might" have taken players away from PS2 was the Warhammer 40k game called Eternal Crusade that was also meant to be an open world fps similar to PS2 but the dev team manage to buy hardware to run the game but didnt understand that that hardware couldnt run an open world game so it remained an lobby fps.

Im usually an RTS kinda gamer. But when i need that fix of fps and open warfare, i dont do battlefield or call of duty. Its Planetside 2 all the way.
No other game lets me be a medic and actively be in a constant state of Hacksaw Ridge. Thousands of xp from dolphin diving on teammates and reviving them in the middle of oblivion to hold the line. Only Tribes has ever given me similar vibes of adrenaline in the multiplayer sphere.
This game...no other game was able to scratch this itch of massive battles. Back in 2010(11?) I was exited for the beta of this game, hopped I be there to try it. It was a blast when I got invited for the beta trying it out.
When it relesed I didn't play it, University and all happened. but in 2015 I returned, met new friends, and Had a blast one more time, it lasted for 3 hot months untill something newe caught my attention.
Now in 2023, Star Citizen siege of orision started, and that itch was back. So was I back Planetside 2. I didn't expect the game change thius much, for better I think. It is still fun, but HIGHBY me, the OS are a pain in the ass, but damn, it is still fun. o7

Only been a die hard since 2019 or so. I love this game and until something else takes her spot she will be my favorite game that I have ever played no contest. The memories and communities I have built and been a part of over these 4 years I will never forget. Ima ride this one tell the wheels fall off CMDR. Much love to the players, Wrel, no name developers, content creators, and even the people I grew to hate. You all made the experience what it is and was. Planetside 2 Forever.

All my friends stopped playing Planetside as they just "moved on" and so did I. I loved the time but I am sure nobody will return to it. Life *just happened,* that's it.

I'll will say that planetside 2 has a great potential because it's the only combined arms massive multi warfare open world game that is FREE TO PLAY unlike the bigger titles such as battlefield or other games.

Planetside 2 is the game for me. It allways delivered, big fights, insanely skilled players, epic battlets.
No other game has this when 200+ players wrestle againts each other, or try to survive a tide of the enemy's infantry.

The salty vets will never come to terms with the fact that a live service f2p game like this could have died a loooong time ago, it's a miracle it hasn't, and there's much more to it than 'it has no competition'. Personally I think the game dying would be the best thing for it: I know private servers would pop up immediately, and would have a hardcore base just like live. Look at how vanilla wow's re-release back to live only happened after more than a decade of private servers building interest and momentum, and now it is immensely successful, even more so than wow's current version of live. I think planetside has a long road ahead of it :)
im really sad, ive played this game since launch, i remember having 3 maps open on my server, fights being everywhere, now i get on at prime time to 1 single fight... i had to switch servers which ove course doesnt help anything, i hope they release a planet side 3 one day
I've been playing since Nov 2012. Still a staple in my weekly gaming.
They NEED to make a Planetside 3 and soon or Rogue Planet Games might close down (speculation). They needed to push for Planetside 3 right after Arena failed and built off that framework and changed the name on the project file. That or with PS2, with the new graphic settings, if they did a reskin of PS2 and called it PS3, it might be better than keeping PS2 running. New game = fresh players, fresh players = new money. Change some music, sfx, new maps, UI art, standardize FPS controls to match CoD and voila, PS3...THEN you build off that title.
Well, Dust 514 was a top dog contender, until they killed it internally (hired new guy who took over and killed it) so persistent environment is not the end all be all. As Dust was way more diverse than PS is, for combined arms.
