You will instantly Mill yourself out because there will not be a creature named mirror mad Phantasm in your library. And with laboratory maniac all you need to do is draw to win.
It's worth noting that Buried Alive and Entomb are coming in Ultimate Masters, so the price should come down on those for a bit here in a few weeks. I really like those quick ideas on what the deck is to get reminders if I am ever looking back on videos for a new deck.
Dude, awesome deck tech once again? If I may ask, for someone who is new to the graveyard play style and “copy” style, what is the best way to go about playing this deck? I feel that I’d back myself into a corner with it.
Lazav is all about toolboxing and combat tricks. I think he works best casting him turn 3-4ish and just being reactive until you can start getting some great creaturrs in the grave
I would think this would be very toolboxy because you can play the creatures out for utility, such as holding open blockers. You don't care if they die in combat because then you can copy them with lazav once they die
Your channel is amazing!! It has me very interested in EDH now. My friend I play casual table top with has also been thinking about trying this format, with such low/affordable budget prices, how couldn't we try???? All thanks to you sir, please keep the amazing content coming! Could you do an episode with Sai, Master Thopterist?
These videos are awesome! Being a new player, though, I have a hard time knowing which cards to cut in favor of your reasonable upgrades. Could you add to the list of upgrades, which cards would be best to cut to make room for them? Some are obvious, but many are not.
So it really does depend on your meta and playstyle. Definitely understand that it's hard to make cuts, it is probably the hardest part of building a commander deck in my opinion. I'm working on a series of videos (the first coming out today actually) that are going over how I personally would upgrade a deck. May be doing one on Lazav in the future that will go over this deck as well. My recommendation in the meantime would be just to playtest the deck as is, and make adjustments based on your own preferences!
@@TheCommandersQuarters I would love one for Lazav! I've started buying the deck but I can go a little bit over budget. The categorizing definitely helps in understanding the several areas of the deck and which cards can go where!
@@TheCommandersQuarters hi there! I asked you this on reddit just now, but since you're here, mind if I ask what your opinion is on Surveil cards paired with a Lazav deck? I'm talking stuff like [[Deadly Visit]], [[Dream Eater]] or [[Connive // Concoct]], all of which I opened during my pre-release in September. I feel like Deadly Visit is pretty solid, but the other two might run counter-efficiently in the deck...
A few addition and ideas: Mortal combat? Random win if you have enough creature cards in graveyard. As an addition which is out of the budget : Phyrixian dreadnought that by itself quite a danger. Tutoring it up with buried alive and somone is dead with infect.
Would Yahenni's death triggers work? His name is still Lazav, the Multifarious so it wouldn't be putting counters onto him per se? Or any of the triggers that use their name in particular?
Recently started playing Magic because a friend is really into it. I remember playing when I was a kid, really young. Used to love Myrs. Any chance there's a Myr commander deck out there? I'd like to get one and surprise my friend at one of his weekly games.
I just want a sylvia and korvath deck. I already have one (A pretty epicly agressive one), but I'd like to see the awesome weird obscure cards you'd put in.
You could also maybe change Heartstone for Training Grounds, which is basically the same thing, but it costs only a blue and decreases activated abilities costs by 2 rather than just 1
Im sure your watching my house or something. Last 4 videos have been decks ive been working on and have set aside piles for. I didnt think about returning lazav to hand. Being so cheap saves a ton of mana in the long run
Wouldn’t Lazav not work with Phage’s abilities since the abilities say “when Phage deals damage” and his name is Lavaz, the Multifarious when he transforms? You use the fact that he keeps his name to get around Nyxathids ability so unless I’m missing something shouldn’t the Phage combo not work?
Can you guys do a deck with the original Lazav as commander? Waiting for my Dimir Guild kit arrive in mail and can't decide what kind of deck I want to build around him.
I follow a few channels for mtg, and Wedge from TheManaSource did post a budget Melek EDH deck two months back :) ruclips.net/video/aRtOxGM6PvM/видео.html No disrespect meant to The Commander's Quarters of course, just sharing the mtg deck-brewing spirit.
12:10 doesn't Nighthowler, because it's +X+X carry over to whatever other creature you transform lazav into? Like, turn lazav into Nighthowler, then transform him into lets say Nyxathid. Then, he's a 77 +X+X? Does it work like that?
2 days in a row. It's really the season of giving. I'd suggest zur as a possible commander in a future. We all know how the expensive standard zur builds go but I'm interested in the Command Quarter's take on the enchanter
Wait, correct me if I’m wrong, but when you turn Lazav into one of the creatures from your graveyard his name is still Lazav, so does that mean that the whole “Out Of Here” section won’t work? Because he isn’t any of the cards that they try to return to your hand.
No, it'll work. When a card uses its own name in one of its abilities (without also saying something like "cards named NN") it means "this object, right here". If a second card with a different name gains that ability, it will keep the "this object" meaning and the second card will refer to itself, not the first card.
There's a ruling that patches that up by saying if you shapeshift, the printed name becomes that of the shifter, so pretend the whole "out of here" section mentions laz. I run a lazav+etrata deck on mtga for memes and it's so fun to smack tempo with when the lazav resolves
Here is the thing Mitch: a) since I sub to this channel I've been going broke... b) I have never being so happy going broke... Crazy, isn't it? Keep it up mate! Ah! As an additional note, what about "Wonder" and "Filth" in your graveyard, uh?
I have a doubt : The hability of Lazav says that the creature name remains the same, but cavern harpy hability says "Return cavern harpy to its owner hand". The name on hability dosent match with lazav's name, because his name remais the same, so it wont work, right?
Would copying phage work? I feel like because of the specific wording on the card "Whenever Phage deals combat damage..." it wouldn't apply to Lazav even though Lazav would be a copy of Phage, Lazav's name would still be "Lazav, the Multiarious." This means that it technically would not be "Phage" dealing damage, it would be "Lazav, the Multifarious" dealing damage and thus the ability would have no real effect. I could be wrong about this. I have just always figured that the rules around Lazav were very specific when it came to things like this.
It would work. When a card uses its own name in one of its abilities (without also saying something like "cards named NN") it means "this object, right here". If a second card with a different name gains that ability, it will keep the "this object" meaning and the second card will refer to itself, not the first card.
OK, awesome. That makes sense that all instances of the name on the card text change to Lazav. Sweet, that's awesome. I like this card so much more now that that makes sense.

Almost perfect if it weren't for Lazav keeping his own name when he copies, and Phage naming itself in its ability
Kyle King it works, when a card says "phage" or "lazav" or "medomai" it really is saying "this card"
The reason Nyxathid works is because the choose a player etb trigger never happens as Nyxathid never enters and Lazav was already in play

Dude, awesome deck tech once again? If I may ask, for someone who is new to the graveyard play style and “copy” style, what is the best way to go about playing this deck? I feel that I’d back myself into a corner with it.
Lazav is all about toolboxing and combat tricks. I think he works best casting him turn 3-4ish and just being reactive until you can start getting some great creaturrs in the grave
jordan lee so he’s very much a “patience is key” type of commander
I would think this would be very toolboxy because you can play the creatures out for utility, such as holding open blockers. You don't care if they die in combat because then you can copy them with lazav once they die
I love heartstone. It's one of my favorite artifacts next to quicksilver fountain.
KRSorba both are great cards!
just got this card yesterday man. another great video my friend. great card as well
Vince Vigil thanks!
Glad you are enjoying it! Would be a fun one to build around! Maybe in the future!
@@urrinor absolutely!
@@urrinor Personally I don't think they do enough for you, but try them out for yourself and make adjustments based on your own preferences!
Tested out this deck snuck a win in with Mortivore! Fitting budget card I tested was Dreamborn Muse it fit really well.
Nice!
Come on man I’m running out of money 😭.
Haha my bad!
A few addition and ideas: Mortal combat? Random win if you have enough creature cards in graveyard. As an addition which is out of the budget : Phyrixian dreadnought that by itself quite a danger. Tutoring it up with buried alive and somone is dead with infect.
Mortal Combat is a good consideration! And unfortunately Dreadnought is $45.
Would the old lasav be good in this deck?
Potentially!
Would Yahenni's death triggers work? His name is still Lazav, the Multifarious so it wouldn't be putting counters onto him per se? Or any of the triggers that use their name in particular?
ModestBiscuit the names are replaced with Lazav
@@TheCommandersQuarters oh alright thanks ♥️
Recently started playing Magic because a friend is really into it. I remember playing when I was a kid, really young. Used to love Myrs. Any chance there's a Myr commander deck out there? I'd like to get one and surprise my friend at one of his weekly games.
To my knowledge there isn't actually a legendary Myr, but Brudiclad is a commander that makes Myr.
Thanks, appreciate the response!
Damn the only reason I didn’t play this deck was because every deck tech was super expensive thank god for this channel
I_Like_Bears1 glad you enjoyed it!
I feel an Alesha, Who smiles at death would be a great deck tech.
Would be a fun one! Maybe in the future!
Would you say Lazav first incarnation is stronger?
Yggdrasil 83 depends on the kinds of decks you are playing against
I'm love this deck. Can I suggest building a Azorius deck haven't had one of those yet. Or Lorthos sea tribal
Best sea tribal is arixmethes
Will be doing Azorius in the future! Hoping for a good one in the next set!
Ooooh I just got a foil from a draft. Was thinking about building him. Very interested!
r4vendusk nice!
Owo whats this? Another episode so soon? You're spoiling us~
My bad haha
I just want a sylvia and korvath deck. I already have one (A pretty epicly agressive one), but I'd like to see the awesome weird obscure cards you'd put in.
Whispering Madness and Notion Thief are the mvp’s in my Lazav Deck
LostBoy both are great cards!
You could also maybe change Heartstone for Training Grounds, which is basically the same thing, but it costs only a blue and decreases activated abilities costs by 2 rather than just 1
Victor Braz Training Grounds is a good upgrade but it’s $14
@@kuro_nogazaki that explains a lot, actually...
Oh hell ya! I was waiting for this!
Sign of The Wind nice!
Hyped for that Hallar, the Firefletcher deck tech!
Maybe in the future!
Heartstone is so underrated thanks for including it
A great card!
Thanks for this decklist 😁
No problem!
This channel is a blessing
Glad you are enjoying it!
Im sure your watching my house or something. Last 4 videos have been decks ive been working on and have set aside piles for. I didnt think about returning lazav to hand. Being so cheap saves a ton of mana in the long run
Rupert Haynes who told you?!?
Looks good. Still waiting on that Phage the untuchable deck. ♡
Mason Groner haha maybe in the future!
All instances of Phage's name are replaced with Lazav's when he copies her
The Commander's Quarters, then wouldn’t all instances of Nyxathid’s name be replaced with Lazav’s name when he copies it?
@@zacharycrownover1833 correct! But you wouldn't be picking an opponent since Lazav wouldn't be entering the battlefield as Nyxathid
@The Commander's Quarters Ahh, I see. Thanks for the clarification!
@@zacharycrownover1833 no problem!
Nice i was hoping you did this deck
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for making this deck! Now my little niece can play her first mythical card.
Anna Andal that’s awesome!
I’ve been looking all over for a good budget deck for dimir with Lazav
MCNinja glad to help!
Hey man, awesome deck, as always!! Are you going to do some gameplay videos with your decks any time soon?
Working on constructing the studio as we speak!
Can you guys do a deck with the original Lazav as commander? Waiting for my Dimir Guild kit arrive in mail and can't decide what kind of deck I want to build around him.
i was working on him good stuff didn't even think of heartstone.
Just Harry thanks!
Love your videos. I just built the Zada deck
Thanks! Nice!
Feels good to be right. Great deck CQ.
Keep trying thanks!
Could you swap out Lazav, the Multifarious with Lazav, Dimir Mastermind and have this deck still work?
I would realy love to see a deck built around the weird wizard himself, Melek. I love your channel :)
Would be a fun one! Thanks!
I follow a few channels for mtg, and Wedge from TheManaSource did post a budget Melek EDH deck two months back :)
ruclips.net/video/aRtOxGM6PvM/видео.html
No disrespect meant to The Commander's Quarters of course, just sharing the mtg deck-brewing spirit.
We all know how the expensive standard zur builds go but I'm interested in the Command Quarter's take on the enchanter
jordan lee I wish he would focus instead on non-banned commander because in my meta we use the duel commander banlist for multiplayer too...
@@yggdrasil8387 is zur banned in duel commander?
jordan lee would be a fun one!
Zur Astral Slide cycling is pretty fun.
Bradley Boobq okay thanks
So you can copy a unblockable creature then before damage make lazav huge?
Here is the thing Mitch: a) since I sub to this channel I've been going broke... b) I have never being so happy going broke... Crazy, isn't it? Keep it up mate! Ah! As an additional note, what about "Wonder" and "Filth" in your graveyard, uh?
Hector Morales haha my bad! And those are good cards to consider!
Could you do a tribal angels deck with Avacyn, Angel of Hope as the main commander??
Maybe in the future!
@@TheCommandersQuarters looking forward to it
I have a doubt
: The hability of Lazav says that the creature name remains the same, but cavern harpy hability says "Return cavern harpy to its owner hand". The name on hability dosent match with lazav's name, because his name remais the same, so it wont work, right?
Varolz the scar striped would be dope
William Payne This one has high potential to be epic. Scavenge is a sweet ability
A good consideration! But then you might be losing out on some great targets too
you finally did it!
I was hoping to escape instant win and infect but wth. let my playgroup hate me :D
Martin Hansen haha nice!
Mesmeric Orb is a good addition. Grand Architect and Pili-Pala would be good.
Great considerations!
Does mindshrieker work cuz it says mindshrieker gets plus x plus x and lazav says its still called lazav the multifarious
And yahenni i thought if it said a name it doesnt work bc of lazav is still called lazav
Johnny Mathews the names are replaced with Lazav
You finally did Lazav!
Yep!
When a card like this copies something all names are replaced with lazav. Its the same as Marsil
I'm concerned about that part whers you said we can transform Lazav into Nyxathid without getting the -1/-1 downside? How? Please explain.
Since Lazav is just becoming that creature, and not entering the battlefield as it, you never have to choose an opponent
@@TheCommandersQuarters Sweet! Thanks for clarifying! Sweet asf!
I got to say, i love this deck.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Can you make a budget Izzet sorcery/instant deck? Something with Guttersnipe and the like when you cast and instant and sorcery spell
Would be a fun one! Maybe in the future!
@@TheCommandersQuarters that would be awesome! It's my favorite play style but I'm a horrible deck huilder and very cheap! Love your videos tho!
A grand warlord Radha deck would be pretty neat.
Luke Stange would be a fun one!
Cool to see lazav on the show xD
addam barcelos yeah he is a fun one!
