      It depends on how much you use it. Mine last pretty long but remember you can melt them down and pour it out again.

      Hi thanks for that..Do you means 16 tbsp Gelatine = 227.36 grams rather than ml? Confused as gelatin comes as dry weight granules. But, yes, for us Brits all this 'cup' business is totally bewildering.

      @@triggersw3350 I just used a conversion table in volume - the gelatin I used was in powder.

    Stampendous has a thin but nice mono printing plate. It's a lot cheaper than the Gelli Plates.I have toyed with the idea of making a gelli plate, I am thinking of a bigger one myself so this might work for me to have a larger plate. Thanks for sharing this. I really love how the one in the larger pan turned out. Thanks again!

    Hmm, planning to make a gelli plate and comparing recipes. All a bit variable. They don't all use isopropyl alchoho and I'm wondering what is does in this recipe. Won't it evaporate off very quickly? l also saw a reference somewhere to add a bit of salt to make the plate a bit tougher.
    But having written all that , a good few people report your recipe and method has worked well so as soon as my ingredients arrive I'll be giving it a go. Thanks for posting.

    I am now totally convinced that you are psychic Janelle. After your last Gelli plate video I was inspired to find how and where to get them. Once I landed on the places that sell them, I about died of sticker shock. So i was wondering if there was a way to DIY the gel plates and WOW!! Here it is!! Thank you so much!! I think I can work a brayer into the budget and I have most of the supplies for making the plates already so YAY!! Thank you so much!! I'm looking forward to seeing how gelli printing will add to my craft. One question though: Can you use gelli plates to do dentridic mono printing too or is that strictly a glass thing?

    This gel plate works really well with acrylic paint. Thanks for the recipe! My distress inks and oxides don't work on this gellplate at all. The ink immediately absorbs and dries into the plate so no transfer is possible. Does anyone know why? Is it the alcohol?

    I tried your recipe and it worked out great but my only issue is that I can't seem to get it out of the tray without it ripping apart.. made it yesterday, left it in a Pyrex dish all night then reheated the whole batch and transferred to a metal pan.. still sticking and tearing. I might have been a bit stingy with the glycerin so I'm thinking maybe I need to add more.. would you recommend that too or am I missing something?

    • @JanelleNichol
      @JanelleNichol  Год назад

      Oh that’s too bad. I’m not sure as I have not had any issue at all with sticking. I would say yes, add more glycerin. Other than that, try experimenting with other dishes. I have done metal and glass that have worked. I might have to look into issues with sticking and if I figure out exactly what could be causing sticking I will do a video about that and maybe that will help some others as well that have the same problem.

    Hi. I made this gelli plate but can't make it work. The acrylic dries too fast, almost immediate, and sticks back to the brayer. I tried retarding agent so the acrylic doesn't dry too fast but didn't work. Has this ever happened to you? Im out of ideas. Thanks!!!

    Gelatin should ALWAYS be added to water not the other way around. Let it stand to bloom then for a bit. Also 90% alcohol can be watered down to make 70% alcohol. Glycerin is also used to make explosives so that is why some stores keep it in the pharmacy.

    • @JanelleNichol
      @JanelleNichol  3 года назад

      No, not ALWAYS. Not when you need a specific amount of dry ingredients but an unspecified amount of wet ingredients. I only need to add water to whatever consistency i desire, therefore the dry ingredients have to be added first because it will not matter how much water there is but it does matter how much dry there is. Also, I’m not baking.

    its like a very loose and goosey intaglio press. I am wondering if you took a some hot metal wire or a CNC plate heated up and pressed it you could put a permanent etch into the gel material. I am curious about using this process. Looks like easy way to make some prints. I like it.

    • @JanelleNichol

      Oh yes! That’s how I usually do it. I just added measurements for various sizes to make it easier for people. If someone wants to just do a smaller pan and I only gave measurements for a large pan, they would probably message me asking to do measurements for different sizes or they would just reply in here & complain that I didn’t think of it already. Haha.

    Rich

    • @JanelleNichol
      @JanelleNichol  4 года назад +1

      +Rocking Guitar oh it should definitely be ready the next morning. Waiting a few days won’t help. There must be something that caused it to not “gel” enough. The one I made in this video, is still working great for me! Take a look at the measurements again, and also check the gel powder you used...maybe it’s old or it is not a good quality? That or there is too much other ingredients that is causing the gel to not work. I’ve made many different sizes of this as well but I used this recipe & then poured it into a bunch of molds and pans, rather than ratio the recipe down to a specific size. Hope that helps & let me know how it goes.

    Hi Janelle How do you clean your gelli plate and do you clean it aftger every use

    • @JanelleNichol
      @JanelleNichol  3 года назад

      The best way to clean it is to just keep taking prints until it’s cleaned off. The manufactured ones that you buy can be cleaned off with water or a wet wipe, but not necessary. The ones you make, you can’t add anything to them or they will disintegrate. Either way, it’s always best and easiest to just clean them by taking one final print to clean off all the bits.

      @@cathyhaynes2700 I do love the frugal crafter but I didn’t get this idea from her. There’s tons of videos out there of how to make these. I watched a bunch and then figured out the way that worked best for me.

      I guess it seemed that way.

    Could you use new silicone resin molds instead of pans?

    Should a homemade gel plate be sticky when set?

    • @JanelleNichol
      @JanelleNichol  2 года назад +1

      Yes it will be a little sticky. I always use a clear cover of some sort. Like a clear report cover or something slick just to keep it from collecting dust. They will be tacky or a little sticky to touch but your finger itself shouldn’t be sticky when you take it off the gel plate. I

      @@JanelleNichol thank you for your prompt reply. The first one I made started to tear when handling it so I cut it up and melted it. I also added some more gelatine so hopefully this one should work okay. Thanks again.

    Hi there can u use this as a mold to make cake decorations if so how long does it last

      This would not make a good mold. It is intended to be used for "printing" designs onto paper, as shown at the end of the video.

      +Danielle Sushames yes, I will cover that in another video. But glycerin is also used to make your own watercolours as well.

      @@JanelleNichol I have used your recipe numerous times and love it, thanks for your hard work in putting this together. Couple thing I discovered, that might help your followers, are tiny nicks and and flecks aren’t really a huge deal, because you mostly are trying to create a papers that have texture, so those impression in the plate just add to it. The other issue was storage. I layered mine on glass in a snap lidded scrapbook paper plastics storage container ( purchased at Costco). Didn’t use my plates for couple of month and when I returned, they were moldy, runny and yuk. A friend had warned me to let air in or keep it open . I lost about 5 different size plates. So today I am starting again. If you have any suggestion I am always open to ideas. Thanks again..

      @@marylynnlaker74 sorry I’m only seeing this now. I store mine in between hard plastic sheets. One on top and one on bottom. I also use plastic placemats. I don’t store them air tight, just cover them to keep dust from settling on them and they last great for me that way. It could also depend on your climate too. Mine is very dry.
