This has some good info but I found the video to be a bit confusing. Would've been better if you had gone through the steps and demonstrated each step so we could see how it's done.

(Stacy at PinkPoodleCrafts said to mix all ingredients then nuke it for 30 sec. -WHISK & repeat until the mixture is clear. So if you do it with already boiled water: WHISK IT IN).. Also Stacy never put hers in the fridge, just left it out over night. So i did too

I don't think I saw hers! Thanks for the tip, I think I'm going to try that, I just used it and it is a teeny bit mottled so I'm going to redo, melt, which and leave out... Got it!

What type of material did you emboss with your embossing folders to use on your gelli plate

yep I also pored hot water unto the gelatine, and a big blop occured haha... the second time I let the gelatine weaken in cold water and put it with the glycerine and alcohol (I used alcohol) and when it was undone, pored the hot water in, it worked brilliantly.

It is better to let it set outside the fridge, as it will remain stable at room temperature.

A hundred dollars? That is insanely expensive, whoa it's just jello!! Anyway, excellent video, thank you very much! I'm wanting to make a big one but am scared, don't want to screw up and waste the glycerin. Also, never occurred to me that the dollar store might have a good size pan so thanks much for that as well! Come to find out, all of my pans are either too big or too small, lol Even my plastic shoe boxes etc are the wrong size!
Congrats on finding the perfect storage container for your gelli!

Thanks, Jasper!! When you look for a tray or pan, keep in mind, you'll want one with a smooth surface.

Hey you delightful lady, my recipe (14 packets, 6 ounces glycerin and 4 cups water) turned out very well! It's still in the mold right now but later I'm going to put a piece of wax paper + cardboard on the top for support, and then just flip it out (after loosening the sides obv). I made it in a big Sterilite storage container so there's going to be a raised "border" on the edges -- it might be cool! But if not I'll just trim it, or try using the (currently top) side, since it appears to be flat enough. What fun!
Anyway, for the mixing, I opened all the packets into a bowl, added the glycerin and then stirred that very well. Then, when the water began to boil, I just poured the boiling water into the bowl and mixed again. It was all very neat and didn't make a mess on the sides of the bowl. I put it into the fridge to cool for an hour and then let it sit on the counter overnight.
The finished plate appears to be about a half inch thick (or more) and 12 inches x 16 inches. Didn't really need it that big but all my other containers were either way too small or way too big.

Gelatin is not like Jello - you have to let the gelatin bloom which only happens in cool water - let it bloom for 15 minutes (this helps it disolve easier later too by giving it more time).

Ooh thank you, I’m off now to search the house for appropriate containers, maybe even some circular ones.

Be sure they have a smooth surface. Some pans have texture and your prints will show it... it can be cool but just an fyi

Did you cover yours with wrap and put in the fridge? Or did you just spritz it on top and put the top on and put it in the fridge. Oh and after you mixed the boiling water did you let it cool and for how long before it went into the plastic container?

Gelatine Is Made from Factory Farm Animals. Gelatin is made from the bones, skins, and connective tissues of animals. You really should advise people what they are using.

I made a good agar agar ( seaweed based) gelli plate. I concur with your sentiments.
I think agar agar is the best in any case. Mine has lasted out of fridge.
Recipe can easily found by googling agar agar gelli plate.

Also, i think that it honours the life of the animal, if you use all of it. The shame is when we, westerners, waste parts of the animal, who has lost its life. That’s why I’m an organ donor… corneas to lungs, someone(hopefully ) will have a better life for my death.

I just used 110 lb. paper, you could also use watercolor paper, something a little thicker than 65 lb. works great

What's the advantage of doing this rather than just stenciling directly onto your paper? Never seen this before so I'm sorry if that's a dumb question.

you can create layers, some transparent and as some show, you get effects and textures you wouldn't otherwise get. try it, you'll love it.

This may sound stupid, but can you use flavored/colored gelatin?

    • @darbyporter1463
      @darbyporter1463 5 лет назад

No. It has to be unflavored un colored. Gelitan and jello are different.
