So sad to see the original DC-9 retired. What wonderful memories. Delta served my hometown of Evansville, IN EVV for many years, going back to Chicago and Southern Airways days flying Convair 440s into our Dress Memorial Airport (now Dress Regional). I flew my second DC-9 -32 flight with them in April of 1972 from EVV to IND to meet my dad after a business meeting. I would also watch them on final approach over my house on the west side of EVV as they would come in from New Orleans, Memphis, and Paducah, KY (yes Paducah). The EVV VORTAC was only a few miles west of my house. They would fly over the VOR and bank toward our runway 4. I loved low ceiling nights when they would scream over the house and throttle up the JT8D engines going in for finals. I spent many Sunday afternoon with my Dad watching the DC-9-32's pull into gate number 2 at EVV. We would have to hold our ears as they pulled up to the gate. All we had back then was a small chain link fence between us and the ramp. I can still remember the jet blast and the smell of Jet A exhaust as they would pull away from the gate not to mention the wonderful feeling of walking out on the ramp and up their enclosed air stairs. Delta left us in 1982, but they still live on at EVV with Delta Connection and we do have the one 717 flight to/from ATL now. Gosh I miss the old Delta days. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video.
Delta's been very smart with aircraft acquisition. They only buy new planes now when absolutely necessary. They try to keep older planes (MD-88, 757) flying as long as possible. This is a welcome change from carriers buying large numbers of new planes during good times, only to be left with excess capacity during harder times. Hopefully the industry has learned from their mistakes and will be much more stable in the future.
The DC-9s will definitely be missed and thats with out question. But i think that the all new re-engines D-9 is better, the Boeing 717-2BL. I think those are great planes to fly on and so is the DC-9.
I really love and miss 727.... I rode in it two to three times... (United, Apple vacations, and TWA). Lot of times with 737 up to 400... Not ride on new 737's yet.

William Wadsworth older planes means less efficiency so the older the plane the dumber the airline ehem cough cough Iran air
@@marioprz0476 Sometimes but you pay to pay for aircraft and 80 million bucks buys a lot of jet fuel

this made me so sad its a shame that they have to go. It will always be my favorite aircraft!
Did you know that DELTA was the first DC-9 customer? Delivered in September 1965.
Thanks for sharing this, I really enjoyed it!
I know Delta also has the MD-88, MD-90 and B-717, all based on the DC-9.
i never flew with this but i flew with the md80 series aircraft. not that much automation and yet the space for legroom.
What a fantastic jet!
Ive been on a dc 9 when i was 3
Great video my favorite is Boeing 727 I have 30 if trading hours with a cfi I like dc9 737 also who bought dc9 fleet and 727 fleet from delta

If it ain´t Boeing/MDD I ain´t going
Now the MD-88 is gone too
What aircarft did the captain say he was moving up to. I though i heard 757-767er or something like that?
Yeah, he said 757-767ER. Boeing made the 2 aircraft so alike that pilots can be cross-typed on them.
Its really gone I can't believe it :(
captain be dressed like captain crunch....if he was a better pilot, he would be commanding a 747
What you do realize that comes down to seniority (if you can hold it) and where you want to be based
Doesn't mean he's a bad pilot :/
😢
This video was uploaded the day my grandpa died. 😕
My condolences 😑
Blah blah blah.
