- The chow hall. DFAC. Mess Deck. A lot of servicemembers have to eat there, but can they appreciate what it takes to make their meals possible? Today we'll take a look at the faces behind the food.

I was on an aircraft carrier in the 80's and don't remember anyone ever smiling in the chow line!, slop it on and go, next!
That was my job. I was Army 92G. Good job proud of ya!
Nice vid. interesting to see how well catering and food is taken care of in a modern army. Imagine that even 200 years ago soldiers had to pay for very crappy food.
These amazing military chefs, and cooks, are just so amazing. They have to do their regular military job and duties, while also everyday cooking for so many people, in the short period of time, they are all just amazing!!❤️
ماشاالله همیشه موفق باشید
One thing I never complained about in the Air Force was the food. Even at BMT we ate well.
You actually got to taste your food during basic? All I remember is trying to shove enough calories down my throat so that I would stop loosing weight. Almost got rolled back because of it.
@@NorCalPhil very briefly in the 3-7min we had to eat haha. But it wasn’t bad!
I served four years in the NAVY plus two in the reserves. The NAVY was good to me. Now the VA is taking care of my “old man” health issues. The food was excellent and the training put me on the right course.
Awesome channel amazing video big fan!
oh god all these bad puns lol
CallmeAffiliated Like in Five Star Hotels.
What do you call gravy that's so thick you can't even pour it out???
MEATLOAF...................HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (8^P
I never had a "bad" meal during my 6 years in the U.S. Army, the best six years of my life.
Wow! The Mess Hall has changed a lot since I served in Korea in 1969. It would have been even more pleasant for us at Camp Ames Korea, if there had been a few female faces at our army mess hall. Troops always complained about the food, but the food was very good. What troops didn't like was military life and they blamed the food. Good video, thanks.
chitgussin I thank you for serving the U.S. Army. Proud to be American!
Military food is underrated and under appreciated Will it get Michelin stars and a James Beard award? No, but military vittles are good! Our military eats a lot better than many in the world
I’ve never had Navy or Marine chow. I was in the Army. The civilian run chow halls at Knox were ok but soldier run chow halls at Carson were much better. We even left Ft Carson to go to Peterson Air Force and ate at the Air Force chow halls due to perception it was slightly better The Sir Force had nice buildings and chairs, but it was basically the same Oh and in Army you had to drop off your tray and silverware. At the Air Force base you could leave you plates, etc on the table, which we found shocking. At least it used to be that way. I got out in the mid 2000’s Sometimes Army meals get redundant and you take it for granted but it’s still good chow. Hard to beat Army breakfasts You can get omeletes and have hash browns, bacon, sausages, french toast or pancakes, grits, toast, fruit, coffee, juice and cereal and have your try piled high with food. Of course it helps when youre younger and doing PT because you can eat a lot of calories in the Army. Luckily you’re burning them too.
While I was a combat arms soldier we were in the field or deployed half the year. We had a regular schedule during week in garrison and weekends free. Cooks had to work weekends and be up at 3 or 4 to prepare breakfast. They went with us to the field to cook us chow. So I always had a lot of respect for the cooks. They try hard during the holidays too. It’s a thankless job and feeding a battalion is no easy feat. Of course when you’re a private and on KP duty in the field you hate the cooks because you’re scrubbing huge pots and pans and trying to remove the cement like burnt crap they made. It’s all good. I miss Army chow. Of course, you’re talking to a guy who enjoys MREs but thats just me.
I was there in july 2011!!! :-) Met some amazing folks there. I have photos. :-)
What's the Regular Air Force Thing ? I would think that being a cook, cooking would be the primary duty and that would be the priority.
I want a different job in the service but I’d cook and serve food to people for free.
I need to know so the folks working the kitchens also do get tough trainings?
the video editing reminds me of alton brown's good eats, good job
she agreed to let, lol she was ordered
I asked, and she said yes, lol
looks great:)
was this the corniest thing ever or what
Good job
Your food looks good Airman.
I landed at yokota in 1971 on my way to tachikawa
The flying Tiger DC8 I. WASON SEATED ME NEXT TO THE NEW DIETICIAN GOING TO tachikawa in basic I learned to love SOS for breakfast.
looks tasty ❤
Holy smokes, Ice cream? Chocolate cake? Yeah right! Go PT nasty 😂😂
Powdered eggs, hash browns and SOS. GREAT WAY TO START THE DAY
Wow nice
As a 70 year old Brit (veteran) living in the UK I would pay a months pension to eat like those men and women....
❤
that's like some 5 star shit compared to Navy Chow on a ship
Disciplined operation, I'm hungry now.
サムライカフェ。素晴らしいネーミング!So cool! 米軍の精強を皆さんが支えていらっしゃる。
Show de bola 😀😋
that airman needs to lay off ice cream
Great ♥️😊
Ms Brice. Who's the Good Service Officer at Yokota?
Que legal , cool
In the Air Force 20 years...Man do I miss midnight chow.
I was thinking the same thing
Rational oven, helps a lot...trust me! My 5 tray Rational where I work is my primary cooking equipment. Love the overnight roast setting for our brisket and pulled pork. I've used the old Garyland and an Autosham, theres no comparison to a Rational.
No matter why they called it a Samurai Cafe, they were in Japan!
I participated in the NAME THE NEW DINING FACILITY when I was stationed at Yokota. The name I chose was "THE RISING SUN." Oh well. Win some, lose some. Take Care!
I miss the Yokota Yak Shack.
ill never eat here if Rachel is there
Good Chow.....
I love cafeteria food.
She dropped potatoes on the floor and picked it up then put it straight back in the pot. WTF
Good very nice
See you soon
:)
It kind of look's like you have some sand crab's working in that Mess Hall.
Dropped food on floor put ot back in tbe pan lol love it
She dropped it into an empty pan for dirty things that have been on the ground
@@pinapplegum yeah for later to cook for her self as an extra snack she smuggled it back to her hidey hole to eat in the middle of the night. Dirty protein is what they call it in the United States pew pew Pirates😂
@@richlaporte5915 jack ass
She should have not put those Potatoes back , but everything else is lovely
It be interesting one day you give the crew Meat pie and Can Of Coke... That's the Australian way
That sounds amazing 😂
You have to pay to eat in the military?
i used to go to Yokota, you all have a Burger King and Popeyes. when i was on KITTY HAWK
Shitty hawk.
thanks friends
Rather be at the "Ninja Bar" haaa.....
The Air Force has better food and complain.... Let that sink in
I think the reporter just wanted an excuse to eat cake and ice cream.
They complain about the food. Maybe its the dirt in the potatoes that she dropped on the floor and added back to the pan..NASTY
The quality of this video...
Was it filmed with a potato? GoPotato Hero 55 quite possibly?...Yeah, I've got corny comments too.
Complain about Air Force chow??WTF!!!Its better than an Infantry Battalion chow hall!!
5 AM Field chow
I want to join the army but what to do be too far phone will help me i love army food
I didn't John Belushi anywhere.
Why do they wear combats and not chefs whites.
I am hungry.
did she agree to let you follow her or did she have no choice
chair force has to get good nutrition in their meals to sit in those chairs all day
@MJW Navy and Marine Corps can.
No more crayons for you.
No gloves?
Just be thankful that your branch of service gave you 3meals a day and free! Heck I was even happy just to have those c rations during exercises on the field some armies around the world barely feed their troops were are just spoiled that's all.
woohoo! I joined the military to be a cook!
Jake Ellis ouhh no...
Did she just drop a potatoe on the floor and put it back in with the rest of the food?
She put it into an empty pan for trash
its doent matter. we have 3second law. but you still put potato in boiling process.
sure looked like it to me...nasty bitch
Guess the chairforce doesn't know what its like to eat in the field. You drop it in the field and we have a simple prayer..."god made dirt so dirt won't hurt"!
"Customers' smiling faces" ? Well as long as they don't know they are eating floor foods.
Ethan Clarke being in the service industry ive seen much worse.Be thankful u dont see what happens behind the kitchen
I'm sorry you feel this way Mr. Clarke. From a retired food service person I'll leave you by saying it wasn't like this in 1973. I'll leave this to your imagination.
@@waynedenson7508 Well I don't belong to us but in india I went with my family to indian air force mess its really amazing food is awesome better than restaurants 😋 but that is not this much crowded and we don't have to take meal the waiter of the mess do that to our table I think the facility are far better than this and sorry for my bad english
I don't like the one girls attitude. " You don't have to eat here" if you complain to her. She would Not last in my restaurant. Consistency is the key, to every recipe. She has that "I don't care" attitude, most of our youth has today.

AF complaining about their chowhall....WTF. When Pop AFB existed, and being in the Army, my buds and I would sneak over to Pope to eat. Food way better than Army.
In the southern food groups, graveyard is listed as a beverage, not a bad thing.
Horrible puns
Mike Sam Same as in First Class Hotels.
Food drop in the floor still can pick it up and throw inside the tray???😱it is unsanitary to do that!
No, it adds protein to the food.
This is not real cooking, this is mix ingredients together and heat.
She said she worked in the mess but i do not think that is her real job in the navy ,,, why is that
Man are you fucking stupid.
Umm, did she pick those potatoes off the floor and throw them back in with the rest? Five second rule my @ass 😒😒😒😒😒😒

Yeah actually we do have to eat there...that's why BAS is taken out of our paychecks. This was poorly filmed.
***** Boom, you killed 'em.
You should request the BAS to be distributed to your paycheck instead. The chow hall at Beale and Barksdale was always fairly decent, so I never really complained about nights were I had to eat at the DFAC due to closure of other businesses on base.
