Sweet trip, thanks for sharing! And yeah, while they say you should use up homemade dehydrated meals within a year, they can easily last two years, maybe even more, if stored properly. I don't have room in the freezer for them, so I vacuum seal mine in large mason jars with oxygen and moisture packs, and my leftovers from last year still don't look faded in colour yet at all and still taste the same.
That's a good idea, I have one of those food saver vacuum packers and canisters. I usually just keep them in Ziploc bags in the freezer, but with the amount of food I am dehydrating this year, I think I am going to run out of freezer space 😅
Thanks!! And Algonquin is exactly where I am headed in May 😅, I always like to get in a trip there early in the season. Going to be going in from the west side and doing a loop. I've never been to Frontenac before, it's on the list though!!
Glad to hear from you Martin, hope your epic long trip went well! Jealous of the amount of time you got to spend out there enjoying the wilderness 🙂. Hoping to get the video out from the spring trip in a week or two. So look forward to that 🎥
Thanks!! I enjoy making the videos too. Haven't tried hammock camping yet, I want to but I need to get an under quilt. The other thing I need to figure out is how to situate all my stuff in a hammock because I have a lot of batteries charging while I sleep 😅

@@DerekSOutdoors thanks. It may prove challenging,,I’m bringing my pup for her first canoeing /camping trip. I’m putting in at shall lake for a 2 night trip to see how things go
@@davecalder2688 that's going to be fun, lots of places to explore on the shall lake side and not as busy. My sister's dog loves it when we bring her camping, just runs all over the camp site having a blast! Something good to bring for the dog is a small foam mat/pad so they can curl up on it by the camp fire or use it in the tent.
Thanks for taking us along your journey! Glad the ice let you get out there, nice camp - firewood 😮 Loved the otter footage too! You must be pumped for your big solo trip in May! 🎣🛶
Yeah I was lucky that the ice was just at the melting point when I got there!! If I got there the day before I would probably needed to portage my canoe back up the trail 😅. The site had firewood probably left from fall or winter campers, was lucky!! Pretty excited for the trip, just getting the food prepped this weekend.
@@DerekSOutdoors hard relate ! Sylvia dropped me off for 3 days and the bay was thawed… got to the point where the bay pitched off (lake entrance) 1 day earlier and I wouldn’t have been able to Bust a path through. :). Keeps things interesting :)
Thanks!! It was a pretty awesome trip, getting to see the ice recede was pretty cool, especially from the drone. Hoping to get a longer trip done this year 👏
Thanks!! Glad you like the video Fly fishing is pretty fun, takes the whole fishing experience up another level when you hook into a fish because you are controlling the line with your hands most of the time. Let me know if you have any questions or need pointers 🙂, good luck out there!!
Yeah, had to get out there to warm up the portage and paddling muscles, make sure everything was balancing and working after the winter. Have 2 weeks to dial everything in for the trip down the Nip, the fishing should be good by then.
@@DerekSOutdoors As long as water is at least at late May levels you will be ok . Just don't want the river all grown in and swampy. Will you use a shuttle? ie go from Tim to Cedar L

Really looking forward to spring camping!!! 🎉🎉🎉

Thanks!! Hope you enjoy the videos. I like making them, it's a great way for me to re-live trips on the weeks when i can't go out to camp 😅
Cool video. I was out in Frontenac a couple weeks ago and am trying to plan my May trip. Where are you heading? I was thinking Algonquin.
