This ride is absolutely perfect. From the operations, to the theming, and the layout, everything is executed perfectly. I’ve never been on a more perfect roller coaster.
It's open for a very long time compared to other rides. In addition to being year round, when I went for early entry it was running full capacity at 7am in the morning, and was open until 9pm that night. Plus the restraints are extremely simple to operate and check, so they are constantly sending trains.
I chose this as my first ever roller coaster ride. I knew it was going to be intense, but I didn't realize the praise it's getting from people who have ridden hundreds of coasters. I feel insanely lucky!! And the ride was mind blowing. I barely had time to process what was happening.
"Hold onto your butts"... haha Clever 😄 I felt the slight rattle on the second launch and I actually enjoyed it cause it added to the chaos of being in a Velociraptors paddock. Night rides on Velocicoaster are euphoric btw. It's my #1. Knocked of X2 which was my #1 for so many years.
Yes! Velocicoaster is my #1. I understand anyone's argument against it but it's my number one because of the epicness of the coaster itself, the incredible theming and the fact that a full queue is still only a 30 minute wait tops because the operations on this coaster are fantastic. It was so optimized I thought they wouldn't take row requests but when I asked for the back the ride attendant smiled and said of course. The employees there seemed to be having a great time which made the experience even better. I'll never forget one time when I was in line the ride went down for a very short amount of time and a ride attendant came over the loudspeaker to say they were having an issue with the electric fencing and had to shut down the ride as a safety precaution as they couldn't have the raptors escape the paddock.
I really like the theme of this ride. One thing I was a bit skeptical about when the coaster was announced was the fact that the coaster was supposed to be immersive but have exposed track. One of the difficult things about immersive theming is that you have to justify the existence of the track. That's why Disney typically puts its coasters in the dark or gives them a runaway train type theme. Universal hasn't been as concerned about this but it was clear that they wanted this coaster to be totally immersive much like Revenge of the Mummy. So how did they do that? They picked a meta theme which is conceptually similar to the theme on the original California Screamin' at DCA. it's a coaster themed to being a coaster. California Screamin' was an Intamin steel coaster themed to being a classic wooden coaster at an old Boardwalk park like the Giant Dipper coasters. Velocicoaster is themed to being a coaster that the "actual" Jurassic World built as a way to increase the thrills by putting the track in the Velociraptor enclosure. I can see why someone might call that a copout theme but I disagree. This absurd idea fits in perfectly with the way Jurassic World is portrayed in the films and it is a very clever way to justify building a coaster themed to the franchise. I would have been disappointed if it were essentially a normal coaster with a cheap Jurassic World sign plastered over the queue line entrance like you see at Cedar Fair and Six Flags.
Also I had an affordable/reliable idea for the ending with the mosasaurus roll. They could just use like a shadow or a cut out of the giant monster under the water when you go upside down. Would be so cool. Great review and video!
Going into the ride, all I heard was hype. As a CP local who rides Maverick all the time, I though it was just that with better restraints. The first time I went in Jan, the park was dead so I got 16 rides on it and never waited more than 15min(rode all the credits in both parks in one day too). Went again last week because my sister was jealous of my last trip and I wasn't going to say no to more of it. It's somehow even better than all the hype. I really couldn't believe the ride could be that good. It went straight up to number 2 on my list and is honestly the most perfect coaster I've ever ridden. I305 is still my number 1 because of that first turn, but this took second from El Toro.
Rode this 7 times during my vacation in September last year and it quickly became my number 1 favorite rollercoaster. It is such a masterpiece and to think this and Hagrids are both in the same park is crazy. I was also impressed by Hagrids and it has to be one of the most purely fun rollercoasters out there.
Got back from Orlando this week. All I can say is I would take the 9 hour flight just to ride this thing and fly back home again. It’s that good. Riding this on the front row at night was what I can only describe as the most perfect theme park experience I’ve ever had.
I rode this and i loved every bit of it, not to mention my first time riding it started to rain so there was some added atmosphere! This coaster is the reason I searched up a review on a coaster i never have before originally.
A row 12 ride on this changed my whole world. Hahaha. That row 12 ride was the most memorable ride I had that whole weekend - and that includes marathoning Iron Gwazi. I had to ride VC before Pantheon
I was there on that weekend also. The last day for my pass was Sunday the 27th, so I got my last Velocicoaster rides for awhile, then did Iron Gwazi the next day. 2 of my all-time favorites, both in my top 5. Iron Gwazi will not be able to have operations as quick. They have to check seatbelts first, then lapbars can lower to then be checked. But it was passholder previews on a school day, so the line was short.
Despite being super exhausted after 5 days at WDW and already 1 day at Universal, I got on this roller coaster and all of that melted away. Absolutely blown away at how amazing it was. I wasn't able to get more than one ride due to circumstances with the friend that I went with. However I do plan on making another Orlando trip next year and I plan on making Universal my first stop. I intend to re-ride Velocicoaster a bunch of times. :) Also that throughput is no joke. I was in line for at most 20 minutes despite how crowded it was!
We may have been at the parks at the same time- I live in Pittsburgh so same home park too! It took one ride for me to consider Velocicoaster my number 1. I only have a count of 54 but most of it is quality. I’ve never been truly impressed by every single element on a roller coaster before, add the theming and all the intangibles that make it great, and it’s a no brainer for me
I will ride it for the first time next week! I currently have Iron Gwazi as my number 1 and I hear many claim it will make a strong case to take that top spot. I am so excited! 😁
I went on this godforsaken thing and nearly fucking died, emotionally. I was somewhere in the middle and I hated every moment of it because my heart was in my throat. However, I did have much fun because my cousin was directly behind me screaming their lil lungs out and I couldn't handle it. 10/10 work! I wouldn't ride it alone, or anywhere near the front for my own sanity. But it's damn good work, and it does NOT stop. 100/10 for thrill seekers!
Just had my second ride on this masterpiece yesterday. I screamed til I was hoarse 😂 Now I’ve been riding roller coasters since 1987 as a 7 year old. I’ve rode many legendary coasters across the Eastern seaboard that aren’t even around anymore, and I can say with all certainty, Velocicoaster has instantly become my favorite of them all. I look forward to seeing whether or not Iron Gwazi can snatch the crown…
I can tell you this. The crazy part was doing Velocicoaster, enjoying that ride so much I made that as my number 1 coaster of all time (over Steel Vengeance) and then a month ago I did Iron Gwazi and haven’t done Velocicoaster since (until tomorrow) but it’s easily Intamins best coaster of all time (Sidenote: Iron Gwazi is so amazing, be prepared to be even more blown away than Velocicoaster. And make sure you sit back row left seat if you get multiple rides on Iron Gwazi, you’ll thank me later) Dillon
Yes have been saying since opening it would be great to have an animatronic mososaurus randomly lunge jaws-like out of the water nearby the mososaurus roll ! It would entertain people all around the lagoon, similar to the dragon spitting fire. Velocicoaster is an amazing and fun coaster for sure!
Been on this about twenty times with my son and it’s our #1. We have only been on Florida coasters so far but plan on visiting outside the state asap. Out current top 5: 1. Velocicoaster 2. Iron Gwazi 3. Mako 4. Hagrids 5. Montu
If only this was somewhere else besides Universal, I would love it. I have never been a big fan of universal for several reason (blame prior visits) and the price of tickets and crowds don't justify riding the 3 coasters at IOA. I have done it just to ride, but my season pass money goes to other more stress free parks.
two night rides on velocicoaster yesterday for my first time. got front and back seat. that things insane. first half is wild with all the near misses and then the second half literally tries to kill you
Iron Gwazi is averaging around 145 second dispatches from my two visits, fwiw. Last time I counted on VC it was hitting 49 second dispatches for almost an hour straight. Super impressive.
I may have some issues between 3:21-3:31 as those 10 seconds don't logically follow, but I think I'd LOVE this coaster and from what I can see I love your overall impressions of it. I have to admit I've not ridden it yet never having yet been to Florida, but I think it's an elite coaster. For one thing it looks better than Maverick which I have ridden. I've also heard it said that Lightning Rod and Velocicoaster are the two best coasters in North America that feature a launch. I've also heard it said it's within the top two coasters in Florida; the other one being Iron Gwazi. I'm curious and have three "Which do you prefer" questions: #1: Maverick or Velocicoaster? #2 Lightning Rod or Velocicoaster? #3: Iron Gwazi or Velocicoaster? Thanks for the video, loved the review!
