How have I watched from the beginning and just realized our houses were built in the same year?! I purchased an 1889 pioneer adobe salt box house in Utah last year. We are only the second family to live in the home, (the first passing the house down through the generations). Your videos are so inspiring, rooting for you every project along the way.

My father had a metal detector and found some interesting things. He was a carpenter and would have enjoyed these videos very much. He loved old buildings and history and I have inherited this from him.
What a feel good episode. My grandma used to sit in a lawn chair, a big straw hat on her head & sipping on a glass of ice tea watching me push mow and weed eat her 3 acres. I was happy to help granny . She brought me a glass of iced tea and signaled for me to take a break to cool off. I was hot, knew I had 4 hours before I started my work shift and making a mental to do list before work. I had 2 daughters that were 4 & 1 . Grandma took a long sip of iced tea and said “ you don’t know how relaxing & enjoyable it is for me to watch you work”. I was perplexed as my granny was 80 and was a hard worker with a positive attitude. But I didn’t understand or ask what she meant, just downed my drink, wiped the sweat off my face and said I had to get back at it. I know she wanted to sit and talk. I wish I had taken the time . As I was pulling on the weed eater to start she said “ one day you’ll understand and enjoy it too”. I have to say 30+ years later watching you go through this house window by window , working hard, sweating or looking tired at times makes me feel my grandma’s presence every week. I know what she meant now and she would have admired your work ethics and your passion . So next time your sweating, tired and making a mental to do list Kaleb, know you make a lot of people happy watching your journey. In my case, 2 old ladies, one living in Peculiar, Missouri and one who earned her angel’s wings long ago….relaxing .
The windows, the back of the house...it all looks spectacular! What a difference! I'm so excited, and happy, for you guys, and every step you move forward.
I have an entire set of B of E utensils from the New York City schools. Back in the 1950's they had home economics rooms with everything you needed to teach the students, mostly girls at that time, how to lay out a table. They would bake things and have teas at the school a few times a year. Your spoon may have been from a similar program. Enjoy it.
Some great finds by Phil there again. Interesting things that get buried - as he said - a few inches often, under the ground. Windows in the back - ALL look great. Such a great thing to add to the outside look - and the restoration is going well. HOT is right - I know what you mean. But hopefully it will start cooling down a little with the storms passing through from down south. Great job with everything - those window frames really took great shape with repair, filling and finishing.
I have a note my dad wrote years and years and YEARS ago. It is one of my most treasured possessions. Your community is amazing!! Your community has lead by example and taught me that there are many acts of kindness moments I might be missing. I was so wrapped up in how cool the letters were, that I didn't even think of finding the authors family.
The windows are looking so good. It is looking like she has had a facelift. And I can see her just starting to smile. The things found in the ground are so cool. Little bits of peoples lives. Young and old. One of the most wonderful things this week was giving some ones family back to them. Who knew what would happen when you started this channel to share bring her back to life that you would be touching so many other lives. Thank Caleb and Kim for sharing all of this with us. Looking forward to the next video.

It's getting there....the windows look amazing and make a huge difference to the look of the house....well done!! You are getting there and doing the best job ever on everything that you do. Thanks for taking us on this journey with you...very exciting!
G'Day Caleb, the metal and glass item Phil found with the moveable handle is a water trap for compressed air. The handle is actually on the bottom of the glass bowl. When the bowl is filled with water from condensation you move the handle to lift a valve off its seat and purge the trapped water. You may find there was a steam traction engine working on the site at some stage to provide power power for other machinery, or possibly a crane / shovel. Hope this helps mate, best regards, Matt.
That brass lever item is a steam engine lubricator. The glass would hold oil and it would attach to a fly wheel or bearing and usually a connection would tug on the lever each rotation to either squirt or drip oil onto the machine in a specific location. It would be a slow speed machine so it could legitimately be off one of the machines the owner built or were used to build the home itself.
@@The2ndEmpireStrikesBack it might not specifically show up in the catalog as it looks like a relatively generic oiler, I believe one of your other followers mentioned a traction engine, which would or could have been on site to provide the motive power through belts for the Hall and Brown machinery. So most likely the engine would have been another brand and the lubricator could have been made by companies like Buckeye Brass or Lonergan etc. but it’s still a very cool piece that was used on steam engines and machinery since the advent of steam engines well into the 20th century. I can’t wait to see what you find in the catalog! Keep up the awesome content, I’m always chomping at the bitts to see your next installment!

Love the updates on the restoration. Sadly the house I purchased a few months back in Anderson Indiana I will have to sell it, some health and family situations came up and I need to sell it to pay the bills off. Love that house it was build in 1900 so it would be fun to restore a 121 year old house.
Caleb, sone friendly advice from a safety professional. Get rid of the belt harness and get a full body harness. Should, God forbid, you fall, a belt harness can result in serious back injury. Also, make sure you can recover from a fall in no more than 15 minutes. I am amazed at what you are doing and have accomplished so far. Stay safe!

My wife and took a motor trip to Niagara Falls this month, and as I drove close to St. Louis, I thought, "I should drop by and say 'hello' to my friends who are rehabbing the Second Empire house." Interestingly, while we've never met (and likely will never), my enthusiasm for your project and your excellent videos leave me with a sense of connection. I enjoyed this video immensely. Congratulations on the letters and your splendid window progress...always pleased to see a notice when you've posted a new video.
My Gran (born 1903) keep every letter, invite and photo. I had 4 trunks (proper old fashion trunks). I sorted them and matched photos to letters and then tracked down relatives and sent them on. I didn't have heart throw them out. I know how much I like having letters and photos from my great and even great great grandparents
@@metaldetectingphil agreed! I have come across red-painted quarters, which are the “tracking” quarters that landlords use when they pay for a tenant’s laundry in the washer or dryer. When the maintenance staff empties the till, the landlord knows which coins are not profit, for example. Maybe the yellow meant something similar? Or maybe someone was just feeling artistic 😀
This episode definitely had amazing things going on.. The letters returned to the family was a fantastic thing to happen.✨ The windows are coming along nicely and great to see the electricity being done! Phil has done a great job finding the items in the yard.. my favourite was the Mexican coin.. Thanks for another week of sharing exciting finds, hard work and making connections..
I first wondered if the mystery item was a very old fishing reel. There have been so many kindnesses shown K & K. Thank you, Phil, for being yet another light on this Christmas tree of kindness.
Thank goodness! I’ve been hanging out for this broadcast, week two total lockdown in 🇳🇿New Zealand 🇳🇿 I needed this! Edit: wow the windows look fantastic! I can’t wait until the electric is going and we can see your house from the outside at night lit up like it’s Christmas

Kaleb and Kim, what great people you two are. I am extremely happy RUclips put your site in my recommendations. So far it's been a very enjoyable journey. It was heart warming to see the tiles come back home and in return you gave back by returning those precious letters to the writer's family.

Amazing beauty in them. Phil really found some treasures. Nice that you share the finds. Keep up the great work. God bless you all.

@@jasoncorreal8810 I think it should be a securing infrastructure project. Determine the overall cost, bond it, then assess a fee on all electric, phone, and cable bills for 10 or 20 years to pay it back much like they did for the E-911 surcharge.
Yay! Electricity is definitely headed your way! Lights! Fans! Air conditioning! Coffee! Mini fridge with cold drinks! Air fryer for a quick lunch! Woo Hoo! Phil found some interesting things. I love your commitment and excitement regarding the house! I watch all your videos with a big smile on my face. And I really enjoyed listening to Phil about the findings - I have the same attitude about finding the most mundane things in the ground and still thinking they are amazing simply because they are old and have some history.
I think the things that are described as a finial and horse tack are actually parts of a curtain rail. The ring holds the rail and the finial goes on the end of the rail.
It's surprising how many things it could be and we still can't nail down what it's real purpose was. But that's some of the charm of metal detecting. :-)
Wow, what a reunion of the pics and the family so heart touching ! Also, what a find with that coin!! Priceless piece for the house collection..I bought my 1870s home 3 years ago and while doing yard work ,I've come across some interesting finds myself, and plan on creating a display of items myself, very exciting! Interestingly, while we've never met (and likely will never), my enthusiasm for your project and your excellent videos leave me with a sense of connection. I enjoyed this video immensely. Congratulations on the letters and your splendid window progress...always pleased to see a notice when you've posted a new video.
Never say never. You can drop me an email if your ever close again. I am sure we can figure something out. Safe travels Chris!
I cant wait for the timelapse of power washing the exterior!
I think the big item with the pump may be a fuel primer off an early car, great show we love watching it here in the uk, keep up the great work
We love Phil!
Aww, thank you E S!
Thank you soula. Like Kaleb, I'm also interested in bringing history back to light.....literally! :-D
You are so incredibly kind to allow someone to come detect your property for wonderful old finds. Never know what you’re gonna find!!
Yep, it's been a great shared experience for both Kaleb and myself. Thanks jailbird.
You guys seems to be building momentum now. Amazing that you have 4 windows done. I love that you all are over 100,000 subscribers.
almost 5 windows
Loved this episode and the metal detecting finds. Very cool stuff. Congratulations on getting electricity started.
All good news, thanks you guys.
I first wondered if the mystery item was a very old fishing reel. There have been so many kindnesses shown K & K. Thank you, Phil, for being yet another light on this Christmas tree of kindness.
Thank you too Twist, and thanks again Kaleb for the wonderful, and amazing experience!
Just realized I've been watching and forgot to subscribe 🙀. I took care of that today. Thanks, Kaleb & Kim.
Hello fellow kiwi! Totally agree with you, been loving watching this project progress!
@@rosaliecollins4854 hey Rosalie, don’t you wish we these ages old buildings to renovate her in NZ ? Somehow the old corrugated woodshed just doesn’t cut the mustard - I can’t wait to see their place finished
Loving the updates, watching your videos is so wholesome.. I’m from Australia and appreciate the love and attention to every detail in bringing this place back to its original state is to pleasant to see rather than knocking down and just rebuilding to something modern
Great work on the house ,wow he found great stuff thanks for sharing
Love the metal detecting finds! That was awesome!
Thanks L B.
No way!!! That men's band looks like my grandfather's wedding band! Love it! my grandparents married around 1940.
Kaleb and Kim, what great people you two are. I am extremely happy RUclips put your site in my recommendations. So far it's been a very enjoyable journey. It was heart warming to see the tiles come back home and in return you gave back by returning those precious letters to the writer's family.
Thank you for being strapped into a harness, it sets a good example for others 😇
You would never know there were holes in those window ornaments. What a great job!
Thanks so much! 😊
Yay, Phil! ❤️🥰
Yay Laura, thanks! :-)
Hope you had a good weekend. Love seeing everything.
Windows are looking beautiful!!! So wonderful about finding the family of those letters and pictures. Cool finds with Don. See y’all soon 🥰
Lol, that Mexican centavo is really amazing, very Bourgeois date!
What a heart warming video. ♥ So glad the letters are where they belong. Thank you for putting them out there Caleb. So happy for kind people. 💛Love the window work you and Kim did. Amazing beauty in them. Phil really found some treasures. Nice that you share the finds. Keep up the great work. God bless you all.
Some things like the letters are just meant to happen. Have had simular things happen in my life where letters end up back where they belong. It is amazing!
Yay, I wanted to throw a party when you announced the electrician had been :)
Awwwww! That is so spectacular 😍. I am moved to tears 😢. Wow!
Love the treasures that were dug. So interesting
The subscribers of this channel are so great! Gifting items, finding history of the house and provenance of the items. Its so cool!
We are very blessed and love every one of our subscribers!
I am so excited about all of the progress you guys have made!!! And I love how far reaching and special this project has been to a lot of people. Don and his family have a piece of their grandfather/ancestor brought back to them. Phil, is so 😎 and love his passion for metal detecting.
This is such an amazing channel! Can't wait til everything is finished so I can come from Ohio to visit!!!
Thank you Carlita!
15:30 And all I can think is: "It's 2021 and their power lines are still above ground."
Great work. My significant other got me into this and now I'm hooked.
I can not understand that either...
I’m up here in Bridgeport, CT and all our power, phone, and cable lines are still in the air too. I don’t get it. We’re in the 21st century!!
When you pay to put it underground it will happen!
@@jasoncorreal8810 I think it should be a securing infrastructure project. Determine the overall cost, bond it, then assess a fee on all electric, phone, and cable bills for 10 or 20 years to pay it back much like they did for the E-911 surcharge.
IKR that’s so ugly! I would have save all that money spent on stripping and used it on infrastructure.
Yay! Electricity is definitely headed your way! Lights! Fans! Air conditioning! Coffee! Mini fridge with cold drinks! Air fryer for a quick lunch! Woo Hoo!
Phil found some interesting things. I’m in NC so just a bit out of his range! 😂
Those windows are already changing the look of the house outside and, hopefully, get they’ll be completed and in place for next week’s episode! Can’t wait - things are shaping up!
Yes, just a bit over 25 miles. :-)
As always I look forward to your vids! Great job on the windows and love the artifacts he found.
Another great episode that is just fantastic how you got that family stuff back to them it's stuff like that that makes what you do all worthwhile great job on the Windows can't wait to see them when they're fully installed thank you guys keep them coming I will keep on watching 👍😆
Another great video Kaleb. The house is really beginning to sing with happiness. 😎
The lamp item might belong to a tiffany lamp. I have one and the top spindle looks exactly like the one that was found.
Caleb, you and Kim are doing a phenomenal job. Thank you for bringing us along
Those windows look gorgeous!
I love your commitment and excitement regarding the house! I watch all your videos with a big smile on my face. And I really enjoyed listening to Phil about the findings - I have the same attitude about finding the most mundane things in the ground and still thinking they are amazing simply because they are old and have some history.
Thanks Joanna!
I think the things that are described as a finial and horse tack are actually parts of a curtain rail. The ring holds the rail and the finial goes on the end of the rail.
It's surprising how many things it could be and we still can't nail down what it's real purpose was. But that's some of the charm of metal detecting. :-)
You guys always pick great music for the time laps segments! No techno. The Sgt. Leslie story was amazing!!
Right. Although I love techno sometimes it can be abrasive!!!! I like to choose certain kinds. I get where you’re coming from !!!
Those vintage hose nozzels collectible!....i have several glass door knobs beautiful! Thruout my house.....neat stuff!!!
Great items!
Congrats on the electrical finally at a start too, long overdue but patience prevails😉 ...the windows are looking great, a real staple of the home, it brings the house back to its heyday..also good work to Kim too, she's a big help! Cheers
That's the power of the internet, it's amazing that people were able to find the owner of the picture and letters 😊
its really amazing! I am just glad to be a part of it all.
