Hey everyone, Kim here! I made us a second channel to post vlogs and house adjacent content and I just posted my first video. It would make my day if you would check out my video and subscribe if you'd like. Thank you! ruclips.net/video/ndX19lP_wWg/видео.html
This dude is no messing around. So many other channels involve their daily life, and vlog about thing unrelated to why fans subscribe... THE PROGRESS!! You my friend delivere amazing content each week, and the education portion is such a nice touch. Thank you.
After seeing so many restoration channels, this one is the most satisfying. Time lapses, thorough explanations, trips to acquire decor, appliances, building, neighborhood history, metal detecting haul -- Excellent! 💜💜💜
My father was a carpenter, born in 1920 in England. He would have enjoyed this episode very much. I remember when he worked on a very old house near Canterbury, probably 400 years old. He found interesting things pushed into locks and under skirting (base) boards. He had a metal detector and found a Roman horseshoe which the Canterbury museum took. Things may not always be worth much but are part of our history. Thank you for the videos!
@@twistoffate4791 I agree! Mine was born in 1927. They could have all been friends except my dad would just have been an admirer of the work - he wasn’t a carpenter or handy at all, but he had a deep appreciation for those who were.
My Grandfather was township trustee. One of his responsibilities was to issue dog tags. They came on a big metal ring in numbered order. I remember them as they always sat on his roll top desk. I would sit at his desk and count the tags on the ring although I had not learned to count. I just made up numbers. LOL
FIREPLACE ALERT!!!! The Redlands Antique Auction in Redlands, CA, has a slate fireplace surround like yours for sale this coming Saturday, 8-14-21. It appears to be in very good condition. As you know, these slate fireplace surrounds are rare.
I grew up in PA and used to work on old Victorian homes, there’s a store called Olde Good Things - he has a warehouse full from taking apart houses/buildings from the turn of the century and more. You can find some missing pieces or replacement pieces hopefully…saw some great progress today!
I loved the metal detector find’s, looking forward to Phil returning. So interesting what you found. Maybe leave a time capsule somewhere Kaleb, telling your story and with some item’s from your home. The flooring is beautiful and you are doing a great job. I enjoy seeing the progress of your home and the item’s you get. Have a great week 😊
You could put these little things you find throughout the house, and display them in a beautiful glass cabinet in the library, or who could incorporate them someway else you see fit.
My cousin used her metal detector on my property as I was finding all sorts of objects while digging for the gardens, but mostly what we found was old car parts from when they repaired their cars back in the 1970's. Although, I did find an Indian spearhead or rather it found me. While digging for the ardens, a rock jumped onto my leg. I was going to toss it but a cursory look saw what it was!
Kaleb and Kim have done such a great job so far…let’s all get Kim’s channel up to 1,000 subscribers by midnight CST (she is currently at 988)! Thank you both for sharing this journey with us all. 💜
This gentleman is fun to listen to! But while I was watching him, I was looking at the wall behind him. The blue paint with the wallpaper sample is so beautiful! I vote for that combo!!
I shared your story and channel name with my niece. She still has a friend from high school that lives in your neighborhood! He purchased and is living in/renovating an old firehouse.Don't be too surprised if he finds you and drops by to say "hello". The metal detecting sounds like it was fun and, yes, a time capsule with a history of your restoration project would be awesome. Dig it up in 50- 75 years and reflect back on the effort it took to restore and preserve this bit of history. And also go "Geeze! what was I thinking?" And have a good laugh. keep up the good work!
Weekly watching this old house come back to life while I slowly fall more apart. It's good to see at least one thing progress in my world other than my depression.
As someone, who fights bad depression myself, can I just throw you some advice, that really works for me? Focus on something positive! It sounds so obvious, that you'd think, it does not work - but it does 🙂 First, try to imagine your depression, as a physical illness, like a bad flu. One of the horrible things about depression, is the guilt you feel and the self blaming. But you don't do that, when you fx. have the flu - so imagine, that your depression is just that - a flu. Now, here comes the work. Learn to recognize the start of a down spiral. You might already, but when you start to see the signs, and hear that negative, little voice? You fight it, with something positive! Something, that gives you joy, and makes you happy. That might be hard sometimes - but make the effort to search for something good. People, that make you laugh. A movie, that has great memories. Music! Help someone. Now - hold on to that! Go look in a mirror, and tell yourself, that you are gorgeous. SMILE! Take a nice long shower. Do your hair, and maybe put on some makeup. Look in a mirror again, and SMILE 🙂 If you don't feel like it, do it anyway! Sometimes, you might not be able to stop that downward spiral - but then don't blame yourself, or wallow. Consider it a flu! You don't lay around, blaming yourself, if you have the flu? So give it a little time, while you STILL try to focus on anything positive, you can think of - and you'll see, that the clouds will part again soon 🙂 Also - go get yourself some B- vitamin supplements. One, with lots of different B-vitamins. Take the max dose, every single day! After only 3 weeks, I felt a significant difference!! Belive me, when I say, it is absolutely worth the effort. YOU are worth the effort 🙂
@@bluebird5361 Yes, some omega 3-6-9 would be good too, but I can't recommend the vitamin B complex enough, because that really made a difference to me 🙂
@@bigboy77dk I would recommend the B Complex from Desert Harvest. It’s the only one I know that doesn’t include B6. B6 can be toxic if you get too much and it’s in so many foods and added to fortified foods. When you take B complexes, it can be easy to get too much B6. You don’t have to worry about the others. It causes nerve damage. It can be irreversible and diesnt even need to be that high to cause damage. Just tossing that out there.
Hang in there Vanessa. Make sure you always have someone you can call when it gets to be too much. A burden shared is a burden halved they say. I know it doesn’t hold true for depression, but it definitely helps if you feel less alone and to hear someone say they care. Hoping for brighter days ahead for you. 🌻
Love how the rooms are coming along! SS Strekfus Steamers were a fleet of steamboats along the Mississippi out of St. Louis. The Sailorette was probably one of their fleet.
Sailorette is an outdated term for a female sailor, Streckfus gave those tokens out as souvenirs to women passengers. This one is probably pre-1930s, as the ones I've seen from the '30s and later had the individual ship's name on them, but this one looks like a generic design for the whole line. They had, I believe, 5 riverboats for most of the 1920s - Washington, Dixie Belle, Capitol, Deluxe, and Saint Paul
Thanks lisa and 11sfr. That token is the other item I described wrong as a "religious medal". Wasn't till I got it home and cleaned as best I could that I did the research and an typed an accurate description on the photo that Kaleb uploaded in the video. An identical example I saw online listed it as a 1920 item, from a Streckfus steamboat, most likely on the St. Louis riverfront long before the 1940 Admiral took over there.
If the bracelet can open then the holes in the bracelet would have a small safety chain on it at one point. So as to not lose it when it springs open for some reason.
I can’t tell you how much I love this channel. Sheer history of it all is incredible. Today people are so quick to lock everything down tear things apart and put some thing new with the thought that new is always better. I think not, new has no history. What you’re doing is bringing back what was so wonderful about the way things were built Wayback in the day. I know this i’m in the process of building a new house, i’m an old piece of property. I constantly find a little remnants of what was there before a door knob,a fire poker, A deck of cards that was wrapped in an old shirt a newspaper and put inside a shoebox, surprisingly it wasn’t that badly damaged, and so many more. I would probably like to use some of this in my new home.
Love those beautiful inlaid floors. My grandfather used to lay those floors for a living. His little bungalow house that he hand built was covered in them. 👍💖
Interesting. Is it possible the vet had a pet cemetery in the yard? Love the plastering job - it's going well. Beautiful sink top. You are doing a wonderful job on your house.
Congrats on the new sink and mantel. I also loved seeing all of the metal things you've found. I keep finding marbles in my yard. My house is only 70 years old but it's such fun to find them that I now regard them as good luck charms.
Hi there Celeb it's good to metal detector the back or front yard, your new friend just helping out lol, looks like a studio in that room your plastering. Thanks for another update video. You and Kim take care. 👍
Caleb you are so patient, focused and determined. This house is so lucky to have you as its new owner. This home will truley be a master piece when your finished. It shows how much you are an artist at heart.
Your house has enough historic charm left would be awesome to tour as it is currently I think….glad to see others agree and went to visit this great home and it’s progress. 🤗
That could be a bangle. Holes are often drilled into inconspicuous areas of hollow form jewellery to allow gas buildup from soldering to escape. Hollow formed pieces have been known to explode when they are airtight.
Kaleb you have got so much done this week, and the room is starting to come back together. What a great idea metal detecting and look at the exciting things that were found.. Im sure you will find many more as you go through the house..I’m enjoying hearing about the history and people that lived in your home.I was on the phone to my friend this evening and I politely had to excuse my self to end the call and mentioned that watching your video tonight was on my go do list.. yes, I’m hooked .Thank you Kaleb and Kim for sharing your journey with us!
That mantle topper will be so perfect with the piece you got the the bookshelf! I love that you have such an eye for design and the way they would pull motifs together rather than putting just anything period accurate into the home. I can’t wait to see that library/study finished!
Since you already have Oxalic acid, it's perfect to clean aluminium and other metals. Also if you heat them carefully you can straighten them out. Any white spot is still oxidation.
Just the reminder that boiling an metal with a less "noble" one should transfer oxidation to the sacrificial one... Silver can be polished or acid washed but I best like putting down aluminum foil in a baking sheet, cutlery and barely cover it in water setting the oven to 100 C while deep I clean the kitchen (steaming the oven insides allows for easy cleanup too).
Going up and down that ladder you make me feel so tired could only imagine how you would feel at the end of it.Loving what your doing with the house such dedication.
Oh, I just love the overmantle (mirror). It is going to look sensational over your fireplace. I hope that you are sent the missing piece. And the marble countertop for the bath will look smashing as well! It ought to be pretty easy to find a sink to fit even if it's not old. Love your channel!
I love your videos! I'm living through these videos as I'm going blind and will probably not get the chance to do this myself like I dream of doing. I love seeing how you are restoring and breathing life back into this home. I grew up closer to Fenton, so maybe I will be able to take a tour of it one day as well!
Your dedication and excitement to bringing such history back to life is refreshing. I love that period in time also. I have collected pieces of history myself. I totally understand your passion for this project. I look forward to each video,!
Great stuff, loved the metal detecting. Loved that mantle topper too. I hope you make different displays in the house for Dr. Jennemen, Mr. Brown etc. I think it will be very interesting.
Hi from Ottawa Canada what a gorgeous floor with the checkered pattern just beautiful. Also love the music you have very soothing. Thank you for another great video
Another interesting video Kaleb. I so appreciate this restoration - would be something I would have loved to do in my younger days. But it's looking great so far. The clean up for a couple rooms - minimal but presentable certainly give a good idea of what is to come when it is finished and everything is in place. Going to be stellar. I personally love those inlaid floors. So much work, but looking sooo good. Keep up the great work.
Well there is always something to do in this home electric or not. That being said as soon as that is in and inspections are done i can start sealing these rooms up things will move much faster.
I wish you would do a “Restoration Registry” here on your channel. That way we could “buy” exactly what it is you may need or want from specific stores and have then delivered to you. I’d be all over that!!
Another great video! Phil found such a treasure trove and I can’t wait to see what he unearths next time. The plaster is looking good. Hope the weather holds so you don’t have any more big problems with it. Loved the overmantel and that gorgeous marble sink! You’re finding such beautiful things for your home. Going over to scope out the new channel and sub there, too! Gotta support our Kim!
A fact I found out when we researched one of our old family homes. They use to throw everything away in the old outhouse. So, if you find an outhouse, put a mask and gloves on and dig away! The people that own our old family home now have found all kinds of pottery and dish pieces in there and in the yard.
Well while i cannot be a 100% certain that there was no outhouse on the property. The house was built with a bathroom/ indoor plumbing from the beginning. A very upscale feature at the time. Also there was no home on the property prior to this house. So while its possible i find it some what unlikley. But i hear what your saying i used to work at a place where a guy had dug up 100s of St. Louis Outhouses and the artifacts are stunning to say the least. A huge amount of history in those holes.
Best to put in some UTP cable Category 6a in the ceilings of each floor and run them down to a central point where you'll have your ISP modem later. That way you can install WIfi Access Points and you'll be futureproof because the cable can go up to 10 times current gigabit speeds.

Good Morning Kaleb and Kim.
Ceiling insulation! It’s starting to feel like a finished room! So cool to see everything you found in the yard.
Ack! STILL no elec! But that didn't slow ya down! Great jobs!
Well there is always something to do in this home electric or not. That being said as soon as that is in and inspections are done i can start sealing these rooms up things will move much faster.
Great old finds! Enjoyed.
Wow wonderful find love the dog tags and that medals ring from Windsor Canada ( I know it’s very cold there long snowy winters)
You got a LOT of plaster work done, Caleb! The metal detector finds were very interesting.
I wish you would do a “Restoration Registry” here on your channel. That way we could “buy” exactly what it is you may need or want from specific stores and have then delivered to you. I’d be all over that!!
that's really hard to do. the items he really needs have to be researched and found, this isn't like a shopping list at Home Depot or Lowes.
Wonderful progress this week it looks so nice!
Another great vlog!! The house and the items coming in to it are really coming along! Well done!
My family is from Chicago and my aunt, uncle and cousins used to live in South Bend. ( 1918 East Colfax ).
The room is really shaping up! The yard finds are fascinating!
Good job Caleb! It's a lot of work but in the end you will have a beautiful home!
Vroom vroom......Kaleb be rollin' along. Fantastic progress 👍 & great finds.
Awesome find! More history to the home for sure. Can't wait to see more. I really hope you get electric by next week.
Outstanding episode!! Loved all of it! Metal detecting finds to the road trip finds to the plaster work!
Lots of cool things today! Way to go Kaleb!
Those pieces are great for shadow boxes. Like a tiny museum for guests. ❤️
Fab sink!!!
Best to put in some UTP cable Category 6a in the ceilings of each floor and run them down to a central point where you'll have your ISP modem later. That way you can install WIfi Access Points and you'll be futureproof because the cable can go up to 10 times current gigabit speeds.
gonna grab lunch now so that i’m ready at 11:00a!
Impressive progress Kaleb!!! This vlog is AWESOME!!!
Love this channel and Ghost town living. Top two highlights of my week!❤️
Love Ghost Town Lining also❤️
