I’m a Syracuse local who saw this house on Syracuse Land Bank but couldn’t afford her, wanted to say Thank you so much for buying and caring for this beauty!! So happy to see owners that love her 😊
Being from the South, I am always amazed at the narrow staircases in homes like this one. Our staircases were built wide for the large hoop skirts worn before 1865. Even afterwards, staircases tended to be built wider here. Your staircase was built for the change in women's fashion trends during the Eastlake time period. Its lovely. Thank you for saving her.
My husband grew up near Syracuse; we visited there years ago and I was saddened by all those old grand ladies that were languishing in the 80s. Now people are starting to recognize what jewels these houses are. So glad I found your channel - I will be watching with anticipation each and every episode!!!
Yeah... I totally feel that! We're hopefully getting past the RUclips newbie mistakes... but can't guarantee we won't make a few more. I hope we improve enough to keep you! We appreciate it so much. Thanks for watching!!
Am excited to watch as well!! My dad grew up and lived most his life in an 1890 victorian. And we understand if you are new to filming. Just turn the camera the other way. Get a highschooler that is interested in video and film to come and be your camera guy. Would be great for them to learn.
I would just like to say that I just found your station today and I find it quite entertaining I watch a lot of restoration programs like yours and I find yours to be so far quite interesting good luck with it and I hope to help in the future God bless you both 👍
I'm enjoying your new channel. You have a great voice for commentary. I peeked at the second video to make sure that you got rid of the vertical cell phone technique.
I have just found your channel and look forward to seeing you renovate and restore it to its former glory. If you could film everything with the camera horizontal, it makes it easier to view. I would change the name of your channel to Grand Lady - Victorian House Restoration to make your channel more accessible to people searching for old home renovations.
Hey guys, just found your channel. Lucky you, on finding the pocket door cavity. Every time I open up a new wall I find a new disaster that someone patched over. The house has so many great left behind pieces finding a set of doors shouldn't be a problem. Good luck!
We found a great pocket door for that space and hopefully we can find another two we plan to install in the house. LOVE those pocket doors - especially the lovely hardware. It just feels so good in your hand when you move the doors. LOVE! Thanks for watching!
I love this house !! I also bought a house in the same neighborhood a few blocks away and remodeled it as well but mines is a ranch house and not quite as beautiful.
Hi I'm a librarian here in Cicero part of the North Syracuse Public library system, would you be available to do a program about this project? It looks really cool!! I think it would be a hit!
I hear ya Maria. I don't want to ignore this issue as it's important. I hope you see that we do not intend for this home to become part of that problem. If you stick with us to the end of our journey or come back in a year or two you may be very surprised at what we do with this completed renovation. Keep your passion about community, even if it makes you angry. We get angry about stupid stuff too.
We're doing what we can. We also believe in the need to make things green and believe in thoughtful uses of new technology... much like the people of the industrial revolution did at the time this home was built. We hope to blend the two ideals into a livable beautiful home for the future. I guess time and work will tell if we pull it off. I'm sure we won't be able to please everyone.
Good question....It's not falling down with the supports we have up, thank goodness. And, it's the least of our worries since there's no electricity, plumbing, floors, heat ... or anything! Haha Thanks for watching Jordan!
I finally had time to research and It's really Queen Anne Free Classic! I have thought about and appreciated your comment all this time as it motivated me to figure it out. I explain this is the "She's a Free Classic" episode. Let me know if you have anything to add!!
❤ I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR CHANNEL B U T ..... PLEASE STOP TURNING YOUR CELL PHONE VERTICAL IT IS REALLY VERY HARD TO WATCH PLEASE KEEP IT HORIZONTAL AND HERE IS WISHING YOU BOTH A GREAT. HOME SCOTT'S WIFE VICKIE
One thing I don't like is all the brown woodwork. It makes the house dark. I prefer white painted trim with some natural wood accents like the staircase and doors. All the rest would be white.
Oh man jrgnc1... those are fightin' words with this community! haha... no, just kidding (mostly). I agree it can make the house dark. We hope it brightens with cleaning and, what you might not see yet is we have a MILLION windows!!
Hi I just found you guys I'm from Niagara falls ny, I'm a union carpenter local 276 I also supervise my family's residential construction company I would love to offer you any help I can message me
Alan, Thank you so much for your offer! I'd certainly enjoy talking or emailing with you about what we are doing and will be needing. So glad that you have found our renovation documentary!

Awwww! It's lovely to hear you find her as endearing as we do! We hope to do her justice. Thank you for watching.

Thank you for including us in your restoration project. Having done it, I know how much work is involved. But the results are worth it. Hang in there.

Saw this on the news, I'm in Syracuse and am glad to see old properties restored.
Really looking forward to watching this! I have to say though it's a bit difficult to see the parts where the cell phone is vertical.

Hi I'm a librarian here in Cicero part of the North Syracuse Public library system, would you be available to do a program about this project? It looks really cool!! I think it would be a hit!
Hi Terry! We would be delighted to do a program for the library!
One word comes to mind when I see what is happening to the Southside of Syracuse. Gentrification!!!
I hear ya Maria. I don't want to ignore this issue as it's important. I hope you see that we do not intend for this home to become part of that problem. Get a multi tool , for the hundred dollar cost it will save you so much time
I hope you can do this ol lady some justice like Caleb is doing @TheSecondEmpireStrikesBack!

Go w/ the black countertop & try to keep w/period finish. Ask the other restores on the Tube, Rest. Nation or
Do you know any of the history of the home
We're learning things and will definitely have a show about it!
do you have the blue prints or any old pictures?
sadly no. And not much history was saved for this house with the historical society.
You need to buy a level to see if the floors are out of level
such a shame the door was missing - hope the project went well.
We had a few bumps in the road if you're not caught up. We found a replacement that is almost perfect!
I’m confused 🤔! Why are u knocking down walls? U should be fixing your front porch that’s falling down😱
Good question....It's not falling down with the supports we have up, thank goodness. And, it's the least of our worries since there's no electricity, plumbing, floors, heat ... or anything! Haha Thanks for watching Jordan!
Why do you refer to this house as Eastlake style when it is clearly Colonial revival-style?
I finally had time to research and It's really Queen Anne Free Classic! I have thought about and appreciated your comment all this time as it motivated me to figure it out. I explain this is the "She's a Free Classic" episode. Let me know if you have anything to add!!
Music is annoying.
Gotcha. hopefully you stuck around as I improved my editing skills!
Work on the audio. It sounds like you're eating the microphone.
Ugh... we had so many issues! i hope you stuck around for the improvements. Thanks edwards3179

Music is awful. Why do people think they have to have music with video.
One thing I don't like is all the brown woodwork. It makes the house dark. I prefer white painted trim with some natural wood accents like the staircase and doors. All the rest would be white.
I actually prefer the stained wood trim style. More charm (to me) than white.
