You have to just ignore the negative comments, and stop excusing for your choices. In the end, the house is yours, and it will be amazing 🙂 I think you guys need to get some, somewhat period appropriate clothes made, and have a portrait painted, to go in one of the main rooms. I love the newel post lamp, its amazing 🙂

As you bring the house back to life, and build her a community that appreciates her, maybe more than she ever was when she was first built, she is giving back to you and your community. It's a symbiotic relationship and quite beautiful.

When the Lady of Fortune lit the room it transformed the atmosphere completely as if the clock was turned back to 19th century. It was beautiful and relaxing somehow. The mantel fits perfectly, it almost completes the room. Great find. Finding the right period tiles instead of the brick insert will make the mantel sing. The library is coming to fruition but nothing could be more frustrating when the job desperately needs to be done but people let you down week after week. Fingers crossed that the electrician will be there soon. After all now you have the Lady of Good Luck by your side.

That's a handsome mantel, and it's period appropriate, so it fits in perfectly. You aren't aiming to create a snapshot in time, and your Newell post lamp is the kind of item that could have been installed during the first 20 years of the construction of the house, so it also fits. Houses evolve over generations, so continue to add fixtures that are period-appropriate even if only in a general sense. We trust you not to furnish it from Ikea! ;-)

I am a big big fan of Mucha art. I have several posters of his work that are repros but I bought them in the 70's and they are so beautiful. I fell in love with him as a child when I collected French stamps and Belgian stamps that had featured his art in the stamps. This was all back in the 1960'. I also love the portrait called the "The Kiss" by a different artist, Klimt. About the same early Edwardian era. Just love that era. You are man after my heart, but I'm an old lady now. I would love to restore a home like this and be 25 yo again. This would make my dream of life come true.

Great Newell and that's a bargain for the sconces, I do a lot of gas light conversions and restoration and often come across sets of combination shades, I may be able to source some for those when you get to that phase. You are making mazing progress. Don't let the electrical get you down, its just a minor bump in the road , all the trades are busy right now. I'm doing a museum level restoration of an 1884 Italianate live work, complete with original 1884 stencils and frescoes. Its a 10 year restoration and I'm in year 6. Patience is a virtue.

@Nikki Huffman Usually the thickness of the glass is a clue. Old shaded are usually thinner. Also old shade glass may often have more flaws (bubbles or waviness). Most modern shades are cast molded and may have a seam that can visible. Real Etching on older shades as opposed to a more stenciled approach on newer shades.

@Nikki Huffman There are differences and you need the appropriate 'fitter" usually a "Holder ring" Most Gas lamps had fitters in 3, 4 or 5 inch sizes. Electro-gasoliers had those plus 2 1/4-2 1/2" shades for the electric. Big ones can be swapped out with smaller ones (with fitter change outs) but you want to make sure the Aesthetics of it look right.

Hey Caleb, try using Bondo Home Solution All-purpose Putty for the pediment window holes. It is more durable for outside features than wood putty. It dries quickly, can be shaped with a razor blade, and you won't need the dial rod work around. Good luck, and nice work this week.

Beautiful newel lamp.. I love your house.. I am working on my 1919 Sears Texas farmhouse. She doesn’t need as much work as your Beautiful Lady.. and not as big,.. I just bought a 1920’s chandelier for my dinning room and waiting for it to be installed.. I have also named my Doris after the woman, who’s husband built this house for their tenth anniversary.. Doris lived in the house until hare death.. After several owners another woman named Doris lived here until she died. Then the house stood empty for 7 years. Then I bought the house 4 years ago.. I love the charm and warmth the rooms have when I remove the 1970’s cheap paneling they had put in every room. Old homes are labors of love.. Keep on Loving..

Congratulation on your quality hand made home. . I also have an 1889 home, that had been neglected for 45 years. The plaster needed a lot of work. Get yourself some fibre tape. Made of nylon threads crossing at 90° to make mesh, square grid pattern of little tiny squares and its sticky on the back. Comes in a roll, you can get 2 inch and 5 inch. Get both. Run along the seam of your new part and the old wall. This prevents the cracking in the future. Build up the plaster almost level and then you would apply your fibre tape. I once made such a beautiful plaster job and forgot about using my fibre tape. And of course it cracked on the exact place a year later. Only hair line cracks but that would not have happened if I use the fibre tape. It’s particularly fantastic for ceilings were they move more and dip. Watch a video on using the tape on RUclips it’s easy. Your newel post light is beautiful. U tube video’s are fantastic to learn how to do thing. Sometimes watching professional plasterers is discouraging a little bit, particularly the Italian guy. I mean they are so skilled. Lol . All that matters in the end, your job looks good lol. Your labour of love on that beautiful home, good for u.

@@secondempirestrikesbackvlo2578 One of mine and my mother's favorites as well. That whole area is full of beautiful homes. I don't have any particular favorite style of home so when I drive through there I'm like a kid in a candy store... "I'll take that one, Ooh and that one, yes that one's nice, etc." Lol. I'm glad you're familiar with our little town. It's not much but it's got it's charm. I've not spent much time in St. Louis but I've spent some time around Louisville and there are some nice places over there also. Well thanks for taking the time to read and reply to my comment and sharing your favorite home. You've got a loyal subscriber in me and I can't wait to see how your project turns out. Have a nice day.

@@secondempirestrikesbackvlo2578 I found this video about the Viele Residence, your favorite house. Its only about 2 minutes. ruclips.net/video/3eE-6JWNMDI/видео.html
Also another favorite which slipped my mind was 121 Chestnut in Evansville, it's actually an apartment complex called the Owen Block that's been recently restored. Just thought I'd share.

Kaleb, you and Kim are doing a FANTASTIC job on your house! I started following your channel about a month ago! I am so impressed with your passion for your house, your neighborhood and your vision! When I saw an episode where you were stripping paint off of woodwork, I could swear that the house could breathe again! I love the lighted newel post and the gas/electric sconce! Perfect spot for that sconce. Soon, your house will become your home!!! (If there are spirits hanging around your house, they're happy). Oh, that mantel in the 2nd parlor is gorgeous! Great finds! And the people donating items to you are AWESOME! God Bless!

What an Absolutely Gorgeous Antique Lamp & How it makes that room Glow & so Homey.
The fireplace Mantle is So Beautiful & Amazing & I never saw that missing piece of wood till you pointed it out.
...& your right Kaleb on how the staircase flows into that room.
...I can see how you're so enamored by this Gorgeous Lamp. When you lit her up is when I totally said WOW.
...I could just stay in that room & just enjoy the shadows & wall color from this lamp.
...& having a fire lit wouldn't hurt either.
When you showed the Mantle from a distance with the surrounding lamp being on, I could almost see people from an Era gone by sitting there by the fire knitting & the other smoking a pipe reading a newspaper relaxing after a meal.
...it was almost like a premonition when this vision appeared to me.
The Sconces will definitely Accent your home.
I hope you will be able to find more of the Dual Sconces.
This is Absolutely Another Awesome Video!!!
Ps. What You added at the end regarding last week's video... Pay them No Mind as to their comments.
...Jealously runs deep in some people who can't be happy for another person's good fortune in life... & I don't mean money💲.
...working hard for yourself to achieve your goals, like you, Kaleb with your home, is a good fortune.
...Hard Work Pays Off & in Return, is Happiness!
...Expecting Things to be Given to Someone on a Silver Platter is the Easy Way Out & the Unhappy Way!
Life is To Short to for some People to Push Their Own Unhappiness in Life Unto Others.
Remember, that it Takes More Muscles to
Frown😦 than it Does to Smile😁
Find something in your Life that makes you Happy. Then, Use it When you're feeling blue.
    ...Life is Good!!!

15:52 this is very beautiful! 😍I didn't know there were even such things as a newel post light or the story of getting one once the home was paid off. So then just think that if it took years to pay it off then one wouldn't actually be of the same era as when the home was built.

I worked with historic plaster guys several times. They would install the plaster, then they would have one guy would hang around for a day or two to wet the plaster and retrowel as needed to close up any cracks.

I think you have done such a good job of restoring this beautiful home. I love the way you think about things and have wonderful feelings about the details. This is a project that I would love to have tackled if I were 40 years younger. LOL Thank you for the the videos, it's like living my dreams from so long ago. I love anything to do with building, remodeling, and restoring. I'm 80 years old now, I can't do many of the things I formerly could, but I love the step by step you are presenting in your videos. Being willing to learn, do, and have the patience it takes is a wonderful attribute to you. Many thanks.

@15:15 Here in The Great Industrial Northeast, you'll see a lot of houses with black eagle plaques.
At one time it signified that the mortgage on the house was paid off.
Not so much anymore. Very few people actually stay in one place long enough to pay off a mortgage nowadays.

Caleb, you and Kim are doing an amazing job!!! Because of the age of the house and disappearances of original items, you are not going to be able to restore it to 100% original. You are doing the best you can with "age appropriate" replacements. And you have found some amazing replacement pieces!! I love the sconce you plan to use in the downstairs hallway. It is exquisite!!
