I think it’s less so the stage morphing but rather the stage getting morphed to. When a stage gets morphed to it comes in from the bottom, so with a vertical scrolling stage players will get caught at the very top of the stage then immediately pushed beyond the upper blast zone as the stage continues getting to the bottom. That could also explain rainbow cruise as when it’s morphed into only the ship you start on is loaded in. I could be completely wrong tho idk how the game would handle loading in vertical stages

A way stage morph could work for Jungle Hyjinx is if players are in the background they could teleport to the barrel in the background before the stage changes while the barrel in the foreground gets deactivated, if someone was traveling between the two during this time it will delay the stage morph until they hit the ground where it will shoot them back

I honestly think the Ice Climbers actually ruined a lot of stages' chances of getting in. During development and playtesting, I'm pretty sure 16 Ice Climbers kept crashing all the stages, which Sakurai even mentioned the Ice Climbers barely made it back in since it was difficult trying to get 16 of them on screen without the game crashing or having issues. With how intense Orbital Gate Assault is, the 16 Ice Climbers kept crashing the stage and they had too many problems and ended up sadly and reluctantly scrapping it. I'm pretty sure that's not something they're going to admit in an official statement putting the blame solely and specifically to Ice Climbers because could you imagine the extreme backlash and huge amount of salt from the fanbase?

If there was actually plans for a Kirby's Epic Yarn stage, you'd think that there would have been leftover songs from the game, and yet there's not a single Epic Yarn song in the entire Smash soundtrack, not even ports.

There's actually an extra stage that was also scrapped in future installments, and that's the World 1-2 version of Mushroomy Kingdom which appear when selected randomly selected, though it, or the original, could also be selected at will when holding down a certain button. Much like with most cut stages I disagree with this decision, I mean, yeah, it has issues, but I really do love the design of both Kingdoms, they're definitely one of the most uniquely designed Super Mario levels. As much I do like the new Stage Morph, man, has it really hampered a lot of past stages of not returning... I think a solution of what the could've done for Jungle Hijinx is that the stage wouldn't morph to the next one until all players were back at the original starting point. It really is a shame that they haven't returned, some are understandable, but, honestly, I'd say just bring back all of them including every Smash variation of Battlefield, and Final Destination, I mean, find some way to work in Miiverse, and you're golden (plus, I just miss Miiverse! It was so nice to interact with other Wii U owners, as well as 3DS owners, across the world without having to rely on other social media platforms (unlike the Switch), and I'm hoping Nintendo will make an alternative on the Switch someday however unlikely it may be)! I guess they could'e also included the breakable, and ? Blocks from the bigger Mushroom Kingdom stage into the smaller one. "Nobody misses these stages," I hate it whenever RUclipsrs assume this... Truthfully, I liked N64 Sector Z better then GCN Cornaria. The Great Fox in it was bigger, and more fun to traverse, and the Arwings flew lower making them work as better platforms, and allowed you to reflect their shots as Fox. You could also bounce people into the back tail fin, and such, so there's other differences too.

Agreed 100%, but I'll add I think Zebes was MUCH better than Brinstar, which was basically an annoying Battlefield that isn't even competitive. Brinstar is not unique enough to be fun, too small, it replaces a really good stage...and I even think it's drab color palette is boring and awful. Zebes was dark but also colorful and the music was upbeat and lively, the acid was easier to escape because there was more platforms, and these 4 platforms and mountainous bottom added a lot to add variety to gameplay, making projectiles harder to use but still adding extra space to battle.
Zebes was always one of the best 3 64 stages for me after Hyrule and Sector Z and up there with DK Jungle, I don't know why it never returned other than getting poorly replaced. Its layout is incredibly unique.

Honestly, If you ask me, their is an easy way to add in at least 4 of these cut stages back into the game, and that is through the music menu. This idea came from the Terry Bogard update, or more specifically, the king of fighters stage. What if, for Corneria, Flat Zone X, and Brinstar, the music that plays changes what the stage is? For instance, if you play the music from Sector Z on Corneria, it changes to Sector Z, same for Brinstar from 64, and for Flat Zone X, if you play Flat Zone 1 music, you can only access the stage elements from Melee, same for Flat Zone 2.

Rainbow Road was most likely cut for a similar reason to Poke Floats, they imported the entire track from Mario Kart 7 into the game so it would've needed a huge graphical overhaul in Ultimate and they likely thought it wouldn't be worth it given that you only stop in at a few parts of it.

I’d say there’s more than minor differences with the cut N64 stages. Sector Z is absolutely massive, and would have worked well with 8 players. And Zebes had a different layout.

    • @Goblin_Hands
      @Goblin_Hands 3 года назад +1

Yeah, I actually prefer Zebes and Z to the downgrades we got in Melee. Brinstar is just a generic 3 platform stage, but very small and awkward, it's not even competitive and it being breakable just reminds me of that Kirby stage, making it worse for Matches.
The camera in Corneria is often too close in 2 player combat and you can never see the Arwings, it's overall a great stage, but I think Sector Z is at least just as good. It's a bit more forgiving and immersive and great for more players, why not have both??

    • @Goblin_Hands
      @Goblin_Hands 3 года назад +1

And Zebes has an incredibly unique layout, it has a decent number of platforms, 4 if you count the elevator, and the bottom hills make camping with projectiles difficult. The acid feels more present and is like the soul of the stage. I do like Norfair too, but I don't really care for Brinstar since every other battlefield stage is better. Brinstar Depths is also one of the most frustrating stages since there are no edges, be I do like Kraid so I'll play Omega/Battlefield versions.
Melee has a few great stages, but most are just not fun.

One possible solution for making Jungle Hijinx work with Stage Morph would be to delay the morph and have all background players teleported into a unique barrel that launches them all to the foreground at the same time, then have the game finally run the stage morph procedure when everyone's back on the same plane.
One might think that delaying the stage morph might be too much to ask, but the game actually already pauses the stage morph if someone uses their Final Smash while a morph is happening, so the mechanic does exist.
If the programmers treat the appearance of that unique barrel I described like it's a Final Smash, I don't see why this wouldn't work, at least conceptually.

For Jungle Hijinxs, I could've easily seen them make it so that like 30 seconds before the stage morphs, there's suddenly tons of barrel cannons, and all of the barrel cannons in the foreground move to the background so that you can only go from the back to the front, and not the other way around, and made it so that you have like 20 seconds to leave the background before it turns into lava or something (idk I'm not really big into the DKC games), and then everyone will be stuck in the foreground, and the stage can morph.

The biggest problem I see with Vertical Stages is the gimmick is too hamfisted and completely dominates the fight when the fighting is what Smash Bros is supposed to be about. For the Ice Climbers stage the best change I would make would be making the stage move at half speed so even at it's fastest it's still far more manageable. The effect of halving the speed would feel far more drastic in practice since characters with poor air movement would have a far better time. I don't think Vertical scrollers are bad but they always move way faster then they should to be enjoyable in practice. That's why the Mushroomy Kingdom (The desert recreation of SMB) is somewhat fun because the autoscrolling isn't too intense. Honestly scrolling speed should be a game setting
    >Faster
    >Normal
    >Slow
    >Slower
So People can have some control over how these stages are played. I'm sure People out there don't mind the speed but everyone wants something different out of scrolling stages and these options would remedy that

Meanwhile, in the files for Sm4sh Wii U using a modding program, you can find stages labeled as "3Dland" and "XMarioPast". It is safe to say that those are "3D Land" and "Mushroomy Kingdom" respectively. Both of the folders for those stages are blank.
As for how the other discoveries came about, data for the electroplankton and brain training icons were found, though implementing them in the game will leave those icons blank. Data for a Rhythm Heaven icon can be found as well.
As for how people found out that there was going to be a Dr. Mario stage, there was an unused feature in the soundtest where boss silhouettes were displayed while a track plays, and some data labeled "virus" were among the silhouettes. Looking back on that now, I don't believe that was meant for a Dr. Mario stage, since I vaguely remember working on a mod that translates the Orbital Gate Assault conversations from Japanese, and the Star Fox team refers to the missile as "viruses".

I don't know if I'd say Stage Morph was the reasoning for vertical stages getting cut. Stage Morph freezes stages as it morphs even including horizontal scrollers like Mushroomy Kingdom, so it's not like the players have to worry about the platforming while traversing to the stage being morphed into. The stage being morphed into also always starts off at its beginning, even if it's the 2nd time in a match morphing into that stage, so players would be eased into the scrolling stage's chaos like they'd always be. And even if they're led into an unflattering part of the moving stage because they started on Great Cave Offensive or something, can't you also say the same about being hoisted into the far left side of horizontal scrolling stages that are already stage morphable in Ultimate? IDK if there's other examples like that where it really just depends on the player's own capabilities or so.
    Also lol at
"They wouldn't exclude a stage like 3D Land because it wasn't on Switch, Smash is about Nintendo's history!"
"PictoChat and Orbital Gate Assault weren't relevant for the Switch so that could be why they were scrapped."

The thing with Robin's Final Smash still featuring Chrom even though Chrom is now playable basically brings up a question; what else could Robin's Final Smash be that still brings up a very important part of Fire Emblem Awakening and its tactics with a character that is still just as iconic a partner for Robin without including Chrom or Lucina? There is also the fact that alternate timelines is a big part of Awakening's story.
Piranha Plants attacking Piranha Plant, well, there are many different Piranha Plants of many different species out there, so like a non-legendary mirror match in Pokemon like using your Rattata against a wild Rattata or a CPU trainer's Rattata, it's not that big a deal.
Characters using their own Spirits, that's a gameplay thing and not canon. If you count that as canon, then you should say that they shouldn't have allowed there to be any more than one of each spirit in the game, as you can get multiples of each Spirit.
However, not counting mirror matches in Smash, there is only 1 Ridley in the universe. If you wanted to bring up those other examples, you should have kept in mind that since there is only 1 Toon Link or Link in general at a time not counting Smash mirror matches or Link VS TL VS YL, you cannot have Toon Link conducting the train on the Spirit Tracks stage and still have any other Link on the field at the same time, and if I recall, there are no other stages that feature characters in the background who also happen to be playable at all in the series. However, unlike Alphonzo, there is no substitute for Ridley; not even Meta-Ridley as they are the same character, just with Meta-Ridley being cybernetically-enhanced. Who else could they have go through Ridley's animations on Pyrosphere? Or do you expect them to not even have a boss character on Pyrosphere if you're playing as Ridley?

I have another theory regarding why Pokéfloats didn’t come back. And I feel it’s creation was clearly a result from Melee’s short development time. With a stage that actually makes no sense with in Pokémon franchise as a whole, this probably didn’t satisfied Sakurai as Sprout Tower stages was originally in the works but never got the dev time to make it, or it may have been removed out of request from The Pokémon Company as they would allow limited amount of Pokémon content that really lacks in representation of Human Characters, traditional artwork in base game and even no spin-offs mention.
I feel it’s like that since Pokefloats is a random stage slapped together, I like the stage today, but back then when playing Melee the first time, I was pretty disappointed that was Pokémon‘s second stage in that game.

Planet Zebes, Icicle Mountain, Mushroom Kingdom (Melee), Mute City (Melee), Poké Floats, PictoChat (PictoChat X?), Rumble Falls, Rainbow Road, Orbital Gate Assault, and Wooly World should've all returned in Ultimate.
    As for the others...
Pyrosphere could've been updated to use Omega Ridley from Prime 3, as that form of Ridley is not reflected in his alts. That way, there would be no confusion or anything... Less confusion.
    Pac-Maze could've been reworked.
Miiverse isn't as necessary, given it being only cosmetic, but they could've used the offline drawings and included it for completeness.
Sector Z could've been a ZL variant for Corneria, similar to Boxing Ring's alt form.
Speaking for a moment on Poké Floats, part of why they didn't include it could've been that they didn't know how to make the Omega and Battlefield variants... but, like... There are amorphous 'mons like Ditto that could've been used.
If they were worried about the vertical scrolling gimmick, they could've just not used Icicle Mountain & Rumble Falls in Classic Mode or Spirit Battles. I can think of some stages they could've done that with that were included as well. :P
Jungle Hijinxs... I'm not sure that one could be helped. Even without the Ice Climbers, it could only have 4 players in standard form in Smash 4 Wii U. Given the change to having all stages available for 8-player smash... Yeah, I dunno. I think it was just too difficult to implement. This one gets a pass from me. Understandable disclusion.
Beyond that, I think it would've been cool to choose variants of stages.
One state of a transforming/touring stages, specific versions of random variant stages, say, Flat Zone and Flat Zone 2 as variants for Flat Zone X, yadda yadda yadda.
Maybe even past versions of Final Destination and Battlefield/Duel Zone.
Also, it's probably just me, but I would've loved to have had some of the singleplayer-exclusive stages across the series be available.
Meta Crystal, Figure Get, the Trophy Tussle stages, the ambush point in Melee's Adventure Mode's Mushroom Kingdom and the same for the six in the Underground Maze (probably as random/hold-button variants of a single stage), and maybe even parts of the final boss level of the World of Light as a couple of unlockable stages with variants.

All the vertical moving stages could be put back in if they just make it impossible to use stage morph on them or something

I don't think stage morph is an excuse for not including vertical stages, they should just put every player, regardless of how high they are on a stage, at the bottom of the new stage. It's a simple fix, really.

It’s almost kinda sad Orbital Gate Assault was cut. Sure it was chaotic to play on, but it looked great and took a year to develop. A whole year of development, just to not be included in the biggest Smash game ever.

Man, I LOVED Orbital Gate Assult, and I wish it would come back. Its such a gorgeous stage, and had a lot of wtf moments that made me laugh. Like yeah, I can understand the annoyance, but the fact there was so much work put into it and how gorgeous it was, the action that took place while you fought... It should come back.
