    Thanks, Daniel and Erica. The "medium drama" shots were my favorite, but all were useful to explain the concept. Nice!

    Sorry Daniel, anything with Erica in I have to watch twice because I miss most of what you're saying the first time around. Erica is such a beautiful distraction and my favorite of all the models. 😊 But for the second time around, its interesting to see that when the back light was switched off, the wall went a brown colour. How is this? and why didn't go grey?

    G'morning Daniel! If Erika did the intro with glasses on, explaining the ratios, the geeks squad would have lost it! Lol! Thanks for another great video!

    I thought you were going to demonstrate the ratios like 2:1, 3:1 & 4:1. I tried to explain the ratios to somebody but I guess I couldn't get the point across. Please do a video where it shows how you vary the power between the Main light & the fill light using a light meter, then post a still shot of that ratio in the video. Maybe have a still shot of all 4 ratios on the 4 different shots. Sometimes I have trouble explaining simple stuff to a beginner that is just starting to use strobes :-) Thank's & Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

      The main issue with such a thing is that one of those is going to look "right" and when someone watches the video, they will assume that ratio is always right, my goal was to show how the different ratios look when swapped. That being said, I will consider doing what you suggest. Thanks!

    Can someone explain me how he changed the background from white to grey or black while not changing the exposure on the model. New into Photography, would appreciate if someone helped me out with that. Thanks!

    • @alecdote
      @alecdote 4 года назад +8

      Sure. On the first batch, he managed to light the background with a speedlight, hence why it was all white. For the second and third, he switched it off, allowing the background to go gray. The main light isn't spilling over the background, just as the speedlight illuminating the background isn't changing the model's exposure. That's why you can tweak them up or switch them on and off without messing with your main elements in the photograph. I hope this could help.

    I noticed on the thumbnails in Capture One you have adjustments applied to the images as they are coming in. I also see that as they are popping into Capture One the sometimes delay shows the raw image just before the adjustment it applied. Can you talk about how you are setting up Capture One before you get started shooting for the video?

    • @DanielNortonPhotographer
      @DanielNortonPhotographer 4 года назад

      That's the white balance kicking in.

    • @phillipcoveney2863
      @phillipcoveney2863 4 года назад

      @@DanielNortonPhotographer on your Capture One screen the white balance Mode is set to "Shot" which is the default setting when you start a new session. If you changed the white balance with the eye dropper or sliders it would say "custom".

    • @DanielNortonPhotographer
      @DanielNortonPhotographer 4 года назад

      Phillip Coveney Capture one is capturing the white balance as shot, but I have it set to duplicate the settings from the last Capture, which I had change the white balance to correct it - obviously before the video started. So it’s capturing a shot then changing it, that’s what you’re seeing. If I had set the white balance in the camera the same as the final white balance that you see, and had it set to “as shot” then you’d see no change.

    It looks like the hair light is a touch warmer or is that just Erica's hair reflecting?

    @ 2:31 Daniel says he turns off background light, is it only off for the 200th of a second and we just cant see it? I am new to portrait photography, like this effect and would like to incorporate it into pet portraits.

    • @DanielNortonPhotographer
      @DanielNortonPhotographer 4 года назад +3

      The background light (being a flash) is set not to fire - the light you are seeing in the video is the light from the window that has no influence on the photo.
