He called him an average fighter when in fact Bardock was one of the strongest Saiyan's at that time because Vegeta was still just a kid. At most kid Vegeta could be equal to Bardock in power but Bardock has more size and way more battle experience because he has been at the front lines his whole life taking on brutal missions meant for elites and escaped the brink of death more times compared to a child prince

Well Bardock did seem smarter than everyone else he was around. He was nice to his lady. Invented that moon thing from energy. In the Broly movie he knew freeza was up to something when everyone else was just like happy-go-lucky. He knew to send Kakarot away. He's also smart enough to tell the guy in the ship with them not to talk cuz Frieza could hear him.
Maybe he was mocking Goku. The king probably spoke poorly of Bardock to Vegeta. "He was average at best, but he developed the fake moon, our most useful science!"
Admitting Bardock was approaching his own power is not something he cared to admit, or maybe the conversation happened before the events of the movie.

You should read the old Vietnamese translation of the manga. There, Bardock was a general and Goku is Vegeta's maternal half-brother, which mean at some point, Gine slept with King Vegeta.

To Saiyans, anyone with slightly above average intellect is a genius scientist. Bardock considered making a ball of light in the sky when there wasn't one there yet and was instantly elevated to the equivalent of Einstein status

Canon wise it never happened,never was mentioned. If we're going by the clip/dub, according to dbz lore, it's a specific light wave the moon is extra good at reflecting(they say it emits it) the energy, blutz waves i think, he made a condensed ball of those thats what so impressive about it

@@Localpcshitter it is cannon, the Saiyan home world isn't called planet vagita, super confirms it once more, the planet we know as the saiyan homeworld wasnt not their original world, they moved there and for a while lived along side its inhabatants, until king vagita led an upriseing and took over the world.
Planet Sadala was the original Saiyan homeworld which was destroyed due to internal conflict. The Saiyans that lived there moved to another planet, Planet Plant, overthrew it and renamed it, Planet Vegeta.
In universe 6 which is a literal twin universe to 7 planet sadala still exists. The saiyans however are not wareapes and thus lack tails and the ozaru form.

Just to clarify, this is the ocean dub, which I'm pretty positive was recorded before Bardock was introduced as a character, actually the Bardock special itself.. so they didn't have the same information on, not just Bardock, but the Saiyan race as a whole, as we do today. It was a creative risk they felt comfortable taking for whatever reason.
Only on the dub side Bardock wasn't introduced. But the dub started almost 6 years after the original Bardock special aired in Japan. They didn't do enough research into future material.
It was simply the Ocean Dub changing things for the sake of it.
It just backfired because turned out Goku's father was an actual character.
@@JohnWilliams-wl9px No, the reason it was changed is because the actual dialogue in Japanese has Goku thinking about when he transformed in the original Dragon ball and killed his grandpa. Naturally it wouldn't fit because DBZ premiered first in English.
@@TheMahayanist dude no it wasn’t, because in the same dub right after Vegeta turns into the Great ape, does Goku realize he was the same monster that killed Grandpa Gohan.
Though they changed it so that Goku thinks Vegeta killed Gohan.
The series was already finished in japan by the time the Ocean Dub started production.
Yeah Dragon Ball GT was airing in Japan when this dub came out.
I can honestly say I don't ever remember seeing it hearing that in the dub at all granted it been ages.
It was the Ocean Dub. This line isn't in the funimation dub which is the one most fans have seen.

Ngl, the idea of Bardock being a scientist makes immense sense, he was able to tell Frieza was pulling a play of the game a mile away.
I wonder if anyone remembers that on 4kids sonic was talking about DBZ and said “Now piccolo is a sayian just like Raddiz”
I enjoy this when it aired because it gave more layers to Kakarot's family.

In some dubs I heard them say he has a power of 10,000 when he is healing.
Goku on saiyan saga: “it’s over 9,000”
Judging by the timeframe….Nappa had a lower level on bardocks time or slightly improved by the saiyan saga BUT still below bardock.
Lower class mentality is also observed in the movie and raditz.
Bardock tries to warn them and they laugh that he “failed” his assignment and now frieza is coming for him.

They should have made Bardock a scientist tbh, and that through his vast knowledge and brilliance he was able to keep up with high class warriors despite his lower power level.

I prefer father of gokus version because it presents him as an average saiyan warrior, he wasnt a good guy, he wasn’t really exceptional in any way, but he had something to fight for and kept fighting till the very end despite being severely outmatched and having no one on his side.
I mean, didn't Bardock come close to if not equal King Vegeta's power? Scouters had them both at liek 10k

TBH it would have made more sense to say he was a brilliant strategist, coming-up with a blutz-wave generating move on the spot, is amazing for a normal Saiyan.

It may have been made up, but I recall reading in an issue of Beckett's Dragon Ball Z Magazine that the dub's writers openly admitted to simply not expecting to go far enough into the material to deal with Bardock.

These were Ocean water dubs and this was before Funimations.
At the time, it wasn't necessary to follow the manga completely, this was a licensed product for American TV.
It wasn't until Funimations took over and re casted the voices and script to what we know now.
