I think the reason Studio Series '86 Bumblebee turns into a VW Beetle-esque car that also vaguely resembles a Mazda Familia 1500XG is likely because having Volkswagen license the vehicle mode was not in the budget for the figure's design.
Here's an idea about the port hole, maybe a 3p accessory company will/can design a weapon that folds up into his spare tire and plugs into that port. :D Cool little fig. i was gonna pass on it , but I might grab it just because.
He's so cute in car mode. I don't mind the colors because it's not only evocative of the G1 minibot figure, but also the Legends class Titans Return figure from 2017, which is a Bumblebee I still love but SS Bee still looks great. 🐝🐝🐝
I think part of the reason they made the gun storage external is to attempt to emulate the metal clippy-tabby thing on the back of the original toy (and, by extension, on Penny Racers) without completely committing to the idea in case people don't like it.

I’m always impressed to see intact 84 toys; I was a lot less careful as a 5-6 year old, and I don’t think any of the rubber tires have survived :/
