Hey Butch great video! You forgot to mention another new reminders addition in IOS 16. On the TODAY view you now have reminders categorized by Morning, Afternoon & Tonight. A great feature to have a better visual of your reminders for the day.
I recently started using a mac and reminders have been extremely helpful for me to organise my daily tasks. Its the first thing i open everyday! it has such an integrated and minimalist yet fantastic interface; just perfect for me to get straight into the day without any distractions.
Reminders will always be useless to me until it steals one major feature from Google. Google reminders adds the reminder to the top of the calendar day and keeps them there each day until you complete them. So smart, in my opinion. I use the calendar too much to switch to reminders and won't use both for redundant tasks. The reason I want this is because Siri works much better with reminders for some reason. It's much easier to add a reminder with Siri than to add a calendar event. Hopefully they add this or I've missed it and someone knows how to do it. Peace!
One way around that is to use IFTTT. I’ve done that and it shows my reminders on my calendar. Only thing is it does not delete them once completed. Not sure if there is a way around that
@ *END OF QUOTE!!!: No. No we just want get rid of Google. And No, Apple's agenda app is not called 'Calander' but, oh so logical, just Agenda. But there is indeed a better alternative that feels like a paperback agenda and synchronizes with Agenda: Weekagenda. Everything you store will be reminded at the moment you want it. That's logical too.
Another trick is to use Siri when looking at a email or website or whatever on screen you can just ask Siri "Remind me about this at 11 am" or whatever time etc.
You can create subtasks more quickly by typing your first subtask, swipe it right and you’ll see the option to indent. It’s great for fruit and veg lists in your groceries.
@@cjenko87 yeah. But that isn’t per sub-task that’s by the parent task. Even doing this I cannot view sub tasks in today view. Even apples help site says it’s not possible and it’s a total cluster by Apple.
I started using Reminders because I saw that you can have a widget for it on he home screen and I think it's really handy. I used to use Sorted but it was kinda time consuming trying to add lists there everyday. I like apple's reminders now.
I never really used reminders, although it would have made my life easier... But after this video, I'm gonna take my time and add a full scale and variants of reminders. I'm pretty confident I won't regret it. Thanks for awesome video!
I would just like a Reminder to actually REMIND me via an audible alert or at a visual on the home screen. Just can't seem to get it to work! Alexa is brilliant when I'm home...but not when I'm out and about!
I know right. I sent a feature suggestions through Apple Feedback app. It said no one else has been requested this or reported this calendar reminder integration request but I doubt I can be the only one that has requested it. Anyway, we all need to start using the Feedback suggestion request feature, so Apple know we wants this feature add to future updates.
I like Apple Reminders, it’s improving, but I’d like a location reminder, or time reminder etc for an entire list instead of adding to individual items. I’d also like reminders being able to be added to calendar events.
U can do the first one I guess, by creating a smart list based of specific location…and batch select remainders and put it in that list ….so it auto applies it to those remainders
You are totally right, I do have a "Shopping" list on which there are noted a variety of items, If I add a location reminder to the first item, say "milk" and the I buy it and delete it, the whole location reminder cease to exist. A reminder for a whole list would really be a plus, and it is a nuisance to add local reminders to, say, 20 or more items.
You can do the first one. I’ve made location-based remainders. Eg I’ve told Siri to “remind me to pick up my package when I get back to XYZ address” and it did exactly so.
Hi Brandon! Awesome vid! I am on the RC of iOS 16 but I don't have any of those features on the Reminders app, am I missing something? Why don't I have them?
they should definitely add an option when you want to be reminded before an event/reminder actually happens like: if something happens on a tuesday on 2 pm that i get a reminder on monday 2 pm to start working on something etc
I use Reminders daily but you showed me a lot of things in this video I did not know. I especially like being able to use Reminders directly from Mail without having to retype a separate reminder in the reminders app if that makes sense. Great job man thanks.
When I added reminders to locked screen, I was not able to change the display to the ‘today’ list. Whenever I clicked on it, it took me to the ‘reminders’ list. Why is that?
Anxiously switching from Things to Reminders now. In a week I’ll be switching back to Things. Then back to Reminders. Then Things… It stresses me out that I miss certain features with one and other with the other.

who knew Reminders app still existed? I deleted it years ago and completely forgot about it til this video rec surfaced. . . still not good enough to use it over Google's, but good reminder it exists.
Hi Mr. Butch, you put out THE best videos about Apple. Your research and level of detail and side-by-side comparisons between operating systems is sooo helpful. About Reminders... I know it's improved, but I can't use Reminders because when I have a reminder with subtasks, the subtasks do not display in the Scheduled view nor in the Today view. I remember reading a review of Reminders a long time ago and the reviewer said "Apple Reminders is incomprehensible to me." And the fact that I can't see my subtasks in the Scheduled view or Today view is incomprehensible to me. But not a knock on the amazing work you do sir! Please keep it up!

Reminders is finally starting to eat Things 3’s lunch. It is starting to make me wonder if I should switch since Things hasn’t done anything new in a while.
Thanks for showing new ways of using Reminders App, it is absolutely fantastic. I love the Reminders App especially with Siri but I need better Calendar integration that syncs between Calendar and Reminders. Just a simple drag n drop to add reminder to a new or existing calendar event would be nice or a check mark on reminder item to show in calendar. Apple already have a field in calendar events name attachment, so let reminders items show to that section and linked back to Reminders app. What will be even better is for my multi stop Shopping I have on my calendar to go to different stores or scheduled events and I would like to drag the same grocery list or grocery reminders on two different calendar events since it already has the location and I can do my multipoint direction from Maps and Calendar. I know it is complicated especially to make it work across all devices and OS but I just want the option and flexibility. I’m sending this off to Apple feedback as a suggestion. Thanks Apple for getting to this ASAP 😊
The Reminders App has been what’s kept me with IOS. Android has not good alternative, especially when you factor in Siri’s integration. It’s been amazing since it’s been released. It’s changed my life.
I have been on things3 for a while. I used reminders before getting into productivity and the whole world within it. Now on ios16, I notice we can put our custom lists in the smart filters section?! This is something all the other tools have and I had been needing it badly on reminders. The Siri integration is unmatched and makes it easy to enter reminders / todos. While I love toDoist and things3 for the Ui, more features etc. I feel like reminders is now finally mature enough to make the switch. Still needs work and more development (ios17, 18 and beyond) but I’m willing to make the jump..
Feel you on this. I’m too attached to the quick capture shortcuts on Things 3 for Mac… but we’re getting closer. I’m waiting for the right time to jump
Hi. Yes, it's perfect that I can put my own lists in the smart list, but I can't make this smart list (I have all the reminders tagged with Tags) as the default in the iOS 16 (iPhone 12Pro Max) Reminders settings, so the Reminders Widget on the lock screen doesn't see it . I got around this by creating a custom (regular, not smart) list where I put all the reminders, tagged them all and I can set this list as the default list via Settings - Reminders and this is for the Lock Screen Reminder Widget visible and will display it on the lock screen. Thanks for the video, it's perfect, it helped me a lot. 👍👍👍
It took me like 10 attempts to achieve what you do at 6:20. If I ask Siri to remind me to call someone it actually asks me if I want to call or to write to such person. Is my iphone dumb?
Is this on iOS 16.0 or on a different iOS 16 version? Im on iOS 16.0 and I don't have many of these features. For example I can't pin tasks I've created, it doesn't give that option when long pressing
Very helpful, thank you! I would appreciate a video, where are you go more into detail. I also question, is it possible to add tags to the reminder while using Siri? I would like to fully voice control my reminders, but now I have to manually add attack each time.
Wait.. why does my iOS 16 reminders look so different from yours??? What the actual…? I’ve updated it and don’t have nearly as many widgets or options as what you have. Visually it looks way too simple.
