62 yrs old and only started having temporal lobe seizures 4 yrs ago. Keppra prevents another tonic-clonic but I still had absence seizures. Then, BINGO, with the help of a daily diary I realised sugary foods are the trigger. I don’t consume biscuits puddings or sugary drinks, and absences have gone from 3 a week to one every 8 weeks. I can live with that 😁

@@nickybaker1338 keto is the easiest to follow. No bread, pasta, cakes, chocolate, alcohol, sugary drinks or biscuits
Plenty of fruit, veg, nuts, chicken, fish. And for good fats - virgin coconut oil as a spread, for cooking, or just eat a tablespoon a day. And as a bonus - don’t drink caffeine, it triggers seizures too.

I have juvenile absence epilepsy. Had absence seizures since I was young but went undiagnosed because people thought, as you said, that I was just spacey or daydreaming. Teachers told my parents that I had ADD. At 15 I had my first tonic-clonic seizure, went to the neurologist for an EEG and discovered that my “daydreaming” was actually absence epilepsy. Started on levetiracetam, which looking back now didn’t really work. Still occasionally had tonic-clinic seizures and absences. But I stayed on it for 7 years because I didn’t really know any better. As soon as I switched to Lamotrigine, BAM, instant difference. Tonic-clonic seizures went away completely.

My son has suffered with Absence Seizures for 4 years now since he was 3. His seem to always be triggered by illness, when he gets a fever it's more than likely that he will have a seizure. Some of these have lasted well over 10 minutes. He also seems to be largely resistant to medication, having them regardless of meds if he is fighting a virus. We have heard this could be a condition, such as PANS or PANDAS, but finding help is exceptionally difficult for that.

I am a 56 year old woman. My most recent MRI'S have shown up normal. But my seizures have only gotten worse. The doctors changed my diagnosis to PNES seizures instead of Epilepsy, which I was diagnosed back in 2013 at Strong Memorial University Hospital in Rochester, New York.
I now live in Creswell, OR.
I have become allergic or intaerarant to most of the seizure medications. So for 4 years I have been on Topiramate and I have had nothing but bad sidaffects from the drug. Now it's to the point where my body is rejecting it and it's just a matter of time before I start having grandma seizures. Then if doctors don't get me onto something else I will go into a coma. It has happened 3 other times when my seizures 1st started getting bad in 2013.
When I was a child they were only Absent seizures but back then most kids were ignored.
I really need help. I am tired of being passed over.

No wonder none of them worked for me and only made life worse not better. I ended up going for Ketogenic Diet because after 10 years of not getting anywhere with treating my epilepsy I needed some relief. I was literally dying with my breathing being affected too, and nobody would listen. I wish I had known all this years ago.

My son is a 14 year old autistic young man and has global developmental delay, he was recently diagnosed with absence seizures and had a EEG done he was then put on ethosuximide however this caused him to have hallucinations and become very depressed and he started getting very upset emotionally and said he wants to end his life so we took him down the hospital where the decision to ween him off the medication completely was taken so currently he is not on medication, yesterday I took him on a trip to see his favourite trains at York railway museum and walking back to the car he seemed to be having a seizure whilst walking, I managed to get his attention and asked him what I said and he didn’t remember, this happened again and then he fell over, I am quite shocked he could be possibly having a seizure whilst walking, we are not really sure what our next move meditation wise is going to be and I was wondering if a video of autism and absence seizure would be possibly on you channel and if this type of seizure would affect a autistic child differently and what medication might be more effective? Many thanks

Same here. Came to this video cause I have a 10yr old nephew with autism. While video chatting with him he looked off, his eyeballs were twitching really fast and he was like chewing on his tongue with partially out. I called his name 4 times. He snapped out and answered on the 5th call of his name. It was really fast. Didn't last long, but had me wondering, did he just have a seizure or is that his autism??? I've never met him in person. Only over the phone so I'm not sure if that is regular autism behaviour. So I alerted my sister who is around him n she said they'll look into it. Had a friend whose daughter st 2 was diagnosed with it and she would stare off just like that. So when I saw it, I got alarmed but can't be sure I'm making something out of nothing cause, no videos on if this is normal in autism. I'm very ignorant about it all. My nephew only eats pizza too which nutritionally can't be good. Can't wait to meet him and pray the Lord guides me in interacting with him and helping him grow and be strong. I want to help support my brother with him but I'm...don't want to say scared...maybe nervous or anxious. Supposed to get to see him next year and it's like...how will he react to me? Do I treat him like the other kids? Etc, etc. Which I know will be answered as we spend time together so...I try not to even worry about it now.

So I'm like, okay, when he comes to visit, I'm just going to male all kinds of different pizza n maybe try a healthy one with more veggies to diversify his eating a lil but my brother said that it probably wouldn't work. He doesn't like new or different. Just what he knows. Any suggestions about his eating?

I had absence seizures as early as 7 yo in 2nd grade. My teacher told my parents that I was daydreaming in class and they were very upset. Third grade, I spent a week in the hospital. I ran a very high fever and puked late at night so my parents gave me medicine and a glass of 7UP (common remedy in the 80s). Suddenly, the glass tipped over and I was unresponsive. So they called an ambulance, my Mom stayed with me and my Dad followed in his Buick LeSabre. I tried to tell my Mom that I was too scared to go to the hospital and I wanted to go to the doctor instead but I couldn’t utter a word. The Dr did a CAT scan of my head and gave me Tegretol which made me drowsy, and I spent a week in the hospital. My parents took me out to McDonald’s afterwards. The seizures continued through 4th grade, which I failed miserably (6 Fs and a C in the first quarter). I improved by the end of the year but it wasn’t enough. I had another episode that year but I don’t remember it as much.

Hi Dr. Danoun I started having seizures when I was 17 years old. I had my first seizure when my menstrual period started. Can I still have absence seizures at 56 years old? I take Lacosamide 200mg and Keppra. I have a vegal nerve stimulator it didn't help me or my meds. I read where you said a magnesium deficiency or a Kertoenic deit or Atkins diet might help. Vitamins for seizures Vitamin D 500-2000iu, Folic Acid 1-4mg, Vitamin D6 pyridoxine, Omega 3 fish oil, CBD oil. I take Vitamin D because I was anemic my menstrual used to stay on for 6 months straight. I have tried the CBD oil. I think that has helped me. I have seizures every so often. I will go a few days then I will have one. Do you think I can stop them now. When I have a aura I will feel like I'm looking outside my body and my hands will shake and my heart will start beating fast my legs jump sometimes. Then I go lay down and plug my ears cover up eyes with a mask and make sure it's dark in my room where I can't see or hear anything. Then I will lay down on my bed and or go take a nap. Then after I lay there for awhile or take a nap I will get up I feel fine like everything is normal. Let me know what you think.

Great video! When I was in Kindergarten, my teachers would complain that I would stare out the window a lot. I think I was also hyper or anxious in class. The story my Mother told me was I couldn’t return to school until I was put on Ritalin. I was diagnosed as having ADHD. My Mom said all the he doctor had me do was raise my arms (as a neurologist does) and he ask d me to shake them??? She said,” right away, he diagnosed you as having ADHD!” She also said I was on Ritalin right away and I soon started to act like a, “zombie.” I wouldn’t pick up my fork to eat. I wouldn’t answer anyone- like I was as brain dead. So, my parents took me out of that school and we went to a private school. Where I thrived! I think I had seizures when I was little!

She started with Lamictal 50 per day then 100 / day she would be ok for 2 weeks and then she starts getting seizures again. We then introduced Depakine in March 2024 at 400 mg per day then 1000/ day. Her seizures went better in frequency but still not to zero . Finally she moved to now
Depakine 1000 / day+ Lamictal 200 / day around 10 days ago. 7 days later her seizures frequency started increasing again. How long does it take for Lamictal to work. She plays artistic gymnastics and that’s the only time she can say that she gets seizures when she misses some moves. No one else notices it -/ it’s a few seconds.
We did the blood work and the theuraptic level for Depakine is 87.5

I had 2 absence seizures before 10 years old. Back in the 1970's. I was given Dilantin liquid at night after the second seizure. It was too strong of a dose. It slowed my brain down so much I couldn't read in school. The medication was reduced but I remained slow in many ways even though it did get some better. I my mom was told i would grow out of ir. So after a couple or a few years my mom took me off the medication. I was fine no seizures to my or anyone knowledge for 40 + years until 2021. I had a focal to bilateral tonic clonic seizure out of the blue after I came home from work. I was dealing with extreme dehydration because of type 2 diabetes. I have a problem with high blood sugar. Now I have always lived with anxiety, sleep deprivation. I have always had a bad habit of being a night owl .I have always had insomnia. Now I did have a mri and a ct scan that showed I was told 2 small bright spots on my right frontal lobe. That where I was told where the seizure came from and I had very white blood cells count. I wasn't told much more than that other than to take Keppra and don't do this that and the other stuff. I told the doctor that I wasn't going to be babysit by anybody and be treated like I'm a China doll and break at anytime or like a child that can't do anything by themselves. I didn't understand why if I had this issue on my brain why didn't it show it's ugly self before hand. The neurologist I saw he didn't know why. I truly believe the seizure was provoked by extreme dehydration I had. I had the most symptoms from dehydration with hyperventilation. Which if there isn't enough water to push oxygen in my blood to my brain so, I felt like I was to pass out. I think was the factor I'm my seizure. I also was dealing with high stress that I placed on my self that I knew I could've prevented. I also was taking a low dose of a medication that is used for depression also for stop smoking. The smoking issue is what i was taking it for. It sounds like ibuprofen but it's not that. I can't spell it off the top of my head. I was taking it off and on. It didn't seem to help me any stop smoking. The sleep deprivation stress and insomnia I have always had all my life and it didn't cause me any issues with having seizures. The dehydration issue wasn't a problem for me until I found out I had diabetes in the middle too late 2000s. I was told by the neurologist I had seen said i had a spot on my right frontal lobe that was a brain malformation i had gotten in uterus as I was forming. Apparently some neurons getting migrated to wear they were supposed to and got stuck where they are now.

Hi, my daughter has muscle weakness especially on her right side and she struggles to walk, but we have now noticed a lot of body tremors mainly when she is tired and trying to do something and she rolls her eyes back and has slurred speech when she is tired, could this be anything related to some form of epilepsy? She will be having an EEG next week but all other tests I.e. mri scans, blood tests and ct scans have come back normal. Thank you.

I was adopted at the age of 6 My State has it wear all adoption records were sealed, and no access to medical records, you know, you "Can't adopt out a broken child" this an assumption, so my guess is that I have had seizures sence child hood, but because I spaced out, for a few seconds or something and then would Cary on, I would not be able to give back the data, and then was told hey pay attention, this was back in 76-80's. Now, here I am at 54, I had great contact with mom and sister, Mom took the Autism ok, but the monet I so stated to my mom I have seizures, she will not pick up the phone, my sister said you have a demon because your living a sinfully life. What brought what was occurring to me is having a team of care workers as I have autism needing some support, my son had an ABA therapist, It's weird how we "Normalize things, just the sudden jerks all my life, never thinking that was not normal. Then, seeing the bloby things and flashing lights, I thought that was normal, had a near perfect driving record, save for being na idiot and racing my brother and another accident, to which, I am not sure what occrued, I wasn't aware of the red light when I saw I could not react at all, and through it. I figured oh it's stress, you know going through a divorce OK fine.. However looking back I did notice after what I learned about absence seizures is yes I did drift on the highway on to lanes, so I pulled off and get some sleep be back on the road. And now for the fun rude awakening. So one day I tossed my phone, so I called my Dr and said this happens regualry she said, come to my office ASAP, we're going to get your seizures checked,.. I said in my mind.. Doc your nuts.. I don't have epilepsy. No way, I would know some one would see me flopping like a fish... (no offense to those with clonic tonic), and I Sad Doc I do not have epilepsy and seizures, my Dog had those.. I could see him shaking, trying stand he wet the floor.. No arguing, so I met my first neurologist.. Then.. After all that... The next few days I was prescribed Lavectrim, well I am not tossing my phone anymore. At any rate, one day I was speaking to my son's ABA, who is now my ABA and I heard her say Lee, are you OK, I said, duh yea... Eh she said, eh.. You just checked out.. I said what, your joking stop joking and se said as a therapist I do not joke.. And the other ABA was there, and she said... I saw it to. I said OK, I'll make a call, so first call, meds, second call because I had it again, I was prescribed lacasomide. I was like. OK... And then I had 2 more, and the last one was back to back. And my ABA thought nothing of it before... And all this time, I get your guys favorite speech you love to say.. No Driving... Plaine simple.. So I went to the AI, and said, Washington state law DUI Epilipsy.. Oh boy did I have a wake up call... I dated a judges daughter, a long time ago and he said, knuckle head, you no longer have an excuse... From now on, if something was to occur, you have to look up the law... What upsets me the most, is when we're adopted we have no medical records. Then something occurs and you wind up in the pych unit, in the 80's and get lablesd schizo, then you learn You are having seizures and then you learn you probably been having seizures all your life. I am now 54, trying to process, this all, heck I was found aso to have ASD, this means 30percent chance for seizures, so I as a child with ASD, I invited words like gigcky and such... But hwt triggered to be the test was the stroke I had in the occibale lobe. You Neuropsychologists, sure know how to see through masking... But realign that I had ASD, type one needing support, Explained a lot. I finally felt I had an answer.. Until this stupid seizure shows up, hey I can handle having had a stroke, there's ways to reduce them. But epilepsy, or seizures, they control you until you find the right keys for them. The focal aware is the weirdest of all, slurred speech esnesitity to sound, At one time I thought I saw German cock roaches. But then I tired to keep speaking, I guess I sounded like a drunken sailre,I recognized being tired eye flutter and I thought I was pinching my eyes, but instead I was lifint my hand up and down in front of my eye.. I also had very slow speech.. But finally I had an EEG... I had a seizure in the room, before she could turn on the cam, she broke protocol by snapping her finger and failed to call ofr staff, I was in the middle of a sentence she said and I stopped, and I said is it possible to have a seizure and be aware... And she said yes. Well when she turned on the machine,. It recorded everything as normal... Accept for the 18 hrz distributed through out the entire scalp.. Not sure why that was important so it was abnormally normal? All I know, is that right now I am all over the place, Denial is one dangerous game to play and I won't play it. I am used to seeing my best fur buddy have seizures, I would pet him and comfort him. He later developed cancer, and the cancer went into his pymph nodes. Had to put him down before he suffered. I would never want my fur buddies to suffer. He was the most loving fur buddy ever. But I think at times he was alerting to me as well. I am going through the giving process, I use my bike on rare occasions, making sure I wear a helmet. And highly viable clothing. Why did mom stop contact when I told her I have seizures? What triggered my biological mom to end communications/ what caused such a strong reaction from my Christian Sister? Evedently the only thing I can think of... I brought the skellotons in the closets to light. I am the one who they thought was reminding them of some family secret they wanted to keep hidden, my adopted mom is going through a lot as well. She always thought I had schozprhenia... Put when you over lap Absence and focal aware seizures, child hood PtSD, and Autism, you get the perfect overlap that lead to the schizo. So yes, many conditions, back in the 80's were not schizo, but the criteria perfectly overlapped could give the incorrect diagnosis.. I am so thankful right now, that I have not killed anyone on the highway, I haven't harmed kids or my son and wife. I am thankful it was finally caught. And now I understand why when at a stop sign I had some one honking thier horn. Oh and prior to this I had migraines, they went away. But then some one said... Those were prbalby after having seizures. I am scared now, I am scared the EMU won't get a recording. I scared of going there because my seizures are not like a dog, here seizure.., good boy... Or Here seizure come, and the dog stays seated giving you that like, I am not going to you.. In truth I liked not knowing... Oh and I found out all my of having that flashy light, blobs of pickled colors, nope.. Not normal either. It's funny how we get accustomed to things.. It's also a wake up call whem the main tance man says you look like.... Fecal matter... I later asked him... Had did I look like and he said you looked like you were totally drained, and yes I felt that too. He opened the door to my medical transport and he said, I have seen a lot, but how you looked scared me. I said this is what seizure activity can do. Waking up tired... Then suddenly wanting to sleep after a seizure, ABA couldn't record it because they thought it as against ethics but I said please record it... My seizure freaked my care giver out as well... She said never saw a person stop dead in sientince and then cay on. So now the ue is when I have a seizure, I am to call my neurologist, and have other speak, because I have no Idea... And the fact I had 2 back to back... And I had no clue... That is way to dangerous. To even be near something to cook with. Gas grills and such. I hope the EMU captures something, heck I will take PNES. But I have a deep feeling it's not that. Peopleisaid your wishing me that they fidn something.

Can a person have an absence seizure with movement? I had childhood absence Epilepsy. My daughter has just been diagnosed with Primary generalised Epilepsy. She is 18 but special needs. She normally has myclonic jerks which the dr said are seizures and eeg confirmed, she is aware during these seizures though. They also said she has absence seizures but I have not seen it. Tonight she had the worst looking myclonic seizure that I have seen her have which was centralized in face movement it was a few seconds but afterwards she had no idea this happened so was blank or absent for those seconds. The movement looks almost like a weird hiccup but not from the abdomen
