My daughter is 14 .she is having seizures from last two months .i am from Pakistan. Dr gave her levetriacetam 2+2,..her seizures stop but her depression and anxiety wosrt.your video help me alot as a lay woman . Thanks from bottom of my herat....
Thank you so very much for your informative videos. I was recently diagnosed with Focal Seizure in the ER by a young Neurologist on duty - the ER Doctor had me ready to admit as Level One Minor Stroke - previously had been admitted twice to the hospital as TIAs. I knew the 37 yr old neurologist made complete sense to me with his diagnosis. I'm 84 and realize I'm fortunate, perhaps, to have it known now and be on medication. My larger concern is possibly the stages of dementia I 'might' go through in the future and that is only for my family. It is called life. I just hope the diaries of sorts that I have kept through a very large portion of my life, with timelines and knowing my father's timeline/ medical history can help in some small way my own family and possibly others. Thank you for your life work for the greater good.
Lost my brother last year due to drinking alcohol and having seizures..😢 we both were diagnosed at the same time...im having trouble keeping a job bc of being an electrician...really dont know what to do at this point. The meds work but sometimes they dont
Appreciate you taking time, Dr Danoun, to make this video for us lay people. So appreciate your compassion in sharing this latest info for patients everywhere. Very helpful and informative, and a great comfort.
I am now 62. I had my first tonic-clonic seizure 13 months ago. They found a large, 2cm meningioma in my olfactory groove and concluded that was the cause. I had two more seizures before having the tumor removed. I am still considered epileptic, and will be on large doses of anti-seizure drugs for the next 5-10 years.
Peace be upon you. You underwent an operation, thank God, and everything was fine, but Lamictal was not taken. I did not feel losing it. I used Trileptal and Keppra. Only the question is, will the new medicine Sinobamate stop seizures? Thank you.
Thank you so much for all your information. My son just received “diagnosis” after 1 seizure 2 years ago (took a friend’s Vyvanse prescription to study) 🤨 we thought that was the reason, then this year in October and November he had a seizure. We received all tests and started Keppra but now we cannot have follow up until March? Kinda feel like we are floating out here. It’s scary to just have to wait. And he is away in college. Keppra seems to be kinda agreeing so far. Your videos and information are invaluable. Neurologist did a quick briefing but by no means did I leave feeling I knew anything my 21 year old was diagnosed with. I can’t recall the word Epilepsy even being used. Thank you, I feel like I’m getting a better grasp on his condition.
I have NSCLC, metastatic lung with 2 brain tumors that i had undergone cyberknife for & currently an untreated brain tumor, awaiting cyberknife therapy. I believe i have seizures. I fall asleep just about anywhere, including bathroom. For some i am partially aware & others that i have no memory of. . No identifiable reason precipitates them. I also fall out of bed & had to put a guard up. These usually happen at night. I have lost entire days with no memory if i am awake or asleep. What seems to be a good educated guess as to what may be happening. Before cancer, i did have 1 similar experience. I was thought to have sleep walked as a child. I believe it was seizures all along. I was thinking complex nocturnal seizures from my limited research & just a guess. If it is the cancer, i cannot receive immunotherapy.. i had a life threatening response to immune therapy for cancer. By the way, i just remembered that the first 2 tumors were bilateral parietal lobe small tumors. Now another is coming back on left parietal lobe. Please advise me as to a type of seizures these are. Thank you very much Doctor.
no one seems to know why i had a brain tumor operation in 2014 in 2018-2019 i started to cough uncontrollable and pass out. in the last several months 2023 november i started passing out and seizuires bitting my tongue. i was but on keppra i take 1500 in morning and 1000 at night some times i get light headed while coughing but have not passed out but they do not know why any suggestions or maybe other cases like mine thank you
I hope this video gave you clarity on epilepsy. Let's start the treatment journey here by the best 10 tips for seizure control in this video👇 ruclips.net/video/JgUOnJs_ksE/видео.html
Every time my epilepsy medications are changed, it makes my seizures worse (once I was over dosed on Carbamazipe) by a neurologist. I ended up with 'nystamus' in both eyes. I now take Phenobarbital 'Phenobarbitone' (which I've been on since 1964/1965, Carbamazepine and Lamotrigine. A neurologist put me on a fourth medication 'Levetiracetam', but I got too many side effects, so I came off it. after a month or so. I have not seen a Nurologist or Epilepsy nurse for 5-6 years due to lock-down, I only have short phone calls with them, which I find useless.
Probably it is related to the cause of the seizures rather than the age itself. Any age has a chance of 50 to 70% seizure freedom and there is always 25% hard to control
Thank you Dr. Danoun. I thank you for your time and dedication. These videos are very helpful to me and my child as we try to have the best life possible.
I have no family history of epilepsy But I do have nf1 my mums side of the family, I started experiencing strange tastes and tingling finger tips before I was diagnosed was first prescribed lamotrogine then keppra then tegretol and clobozam now I’ve been given cenobamate
Thank you Doctor Hanging out in the EMU, I've watched most of your videos but am just waiting for an event. :) thanks for helping me understand what going on
@@DrOmarDanoun They certainly appreciate me coming in expecting things and being able to advocate for being removed from Keppra due to my psychiatric history. They want me to be less "The Hulk" Don't give up on finding care everyone, there are doctors who really care out there trying hard to help
My seizures began almost instantly when I tested positive for COVID it lasted every day that I had the virus then stopped for about 5-6 months before the seizures returned and have been happening for the last 6 months. The MRI has shown a small lesion in my right temporal lobe. And I'll be meeting the neurologist and neurosurgeon next week to likely get some answers, but it's the covid thing I can't get my head around what is it a coincidence? Did COVID cause it? Or was the lesion there before COVID and the virus simply activated something?
The other thing is the question on sleep what can someone on seizure medicine take for sleep because I can be up all night and I get afraid of having a seizure then
I was told that I must had a stroke during my female surgery n right after I sleep from 8 that morning i my surgery was at 8 when I woke up it 6r 7 that night least then 1 hour my body was shaking n jerking n could bearly talk this happened in2020 as of this day I can't feed myself sometimes can't talk walk passing out staring arms n legs doing what it does sometimes Water eyes my kids sometimes say im crying They even had me go to a Mental health Office saying it was mental Turn off to be wrong went to a Neurologist They said nothing wrong was having a seizure at hospital doctor was laughing at me went got a nother doctor bought her over to me n said she is faking because when im having them I can't respond but I can hear what u saying but next thing I know ,2 Security guard at my room n paperwork ready to send me to Mental hospital if it wasn't for my daughter
I had a seizure and an abnormal EEG (generalized spikes, discharges) while still suffering inflammation effects from COVID. Does the COVID make diagnosis of epilepsy difficult?
@@DrOmarDanoun Thank you. I never had epilepsy, so I was hoping it to be a passing thing. I’m staying on a low dose of Keppra just in case, but feeling very fine and stable now.
My son has been diagnosed with “absent seizure”, he has been described euthoxsimide but he is having seziures (shakes ) every other week. Is this normal??
I have a question about seizure medications and migraines. I increased my seizure medication (Lamictal) from 75mg to 100 mg and I started getting bad headaches. What causes this?
I have 2 episode of seizure within 2 months,am on medication, i have done 2 types of tests, everything came back normal, am 47 years old, am very worried
Salam Alaykum 😊! I have sleeping epilepsy in the front part of my brain! with the medication it stabilizes, without it I have attacks in the middle of the day! five each one after the other!
Hello, my friend’s son had a few seizures 2 years ago. Doctor said it was focal tonic clonic. The seizure was well controlled for 1 year after that he started kicking his leg during the night although they increased the medication it didn’t help. Finally after 2 years once when they forgot the medication the boy had a mild tonic clonic seizure. The question is if someone stay in medication for 4 years is it possible that child outgrow from seizure? He is 10 years old now.
Wean medicine very slowly ; same with my cousin unfortunately took a few tries to be able to be both seizures and med free! Life is sad 😢 - youre case is not alone!
Tbh, idk wtf happened. Yes my mother was absolute SHIT at raising me with abuse and starvation. YES when she dies i was full of hatred and psychologically changed forever ...but now at age 27 i eat healthier and less stressed out nor disrespected and i STILL develop epilepsy. My mri looked normal and eeg came back mostly normal but music is a trigger light is a trigger rarely but why now? Before I was 24 i blasted music and lights in front of me with ZERO issues. I drank coffee like no other with zero issues, had the occasional drink (rare) ... went to therapy to address my child ptsd... and yet hear i am with focal seizures regardless if i take my recommended amount of medication or not. Like am i missing something? How does things that had zero affect on u Before now trigger seizures. And when i have seizures "fake memories" pop up 🤔 ... like sone type of alternate ego
So if a seizure is brought on by an infection, why would they need long-term medicine? Could that not just be treated with antibiotics or is that the new brain structure happening?
