  • The Gumeracha Hotel, long rumoured to be haunted, was once known as the District Hotel. Built in 1861 it has a long history and many ghost stories have been told, both by owners, staff and patrons. One rumour was the ghost of Aggi, a lady frequently experienced and even seen by young children, as she watches them play. But who is Aggi? Did she exist? Or is there something else haunting the Gumeracha Hotel. We tried to find out!
    PLEASE NOTE: This highlight footage is from a live stream investigation... it is not meant to be polished filming or editing. It was filmed in the moment! The full version can be found on the Haunted Horizons Facebook page.
    This is from a campaign 'Haunted Horizons on the Road' where we try and highlight haunted tourism locations as tourism is doing it hard with COVID and could do with a little of your love! Please support these locations with a like, comment or more importantly a visit.
    Thank you so much to Amanda from Gumeracha Hotel, you and Taylor were such amazing hosts. Thank you too to Shane Potter for arranging it all for us.

    Loved it! And thanks so much for promoting and showcasing lovely little towns such as this one when they need it most. Your kindness in doing so certainly drowns out any other noise ;) I hope to visit some of these awesome places you’re showing us all when I can finally get to SA! Great job guys.

    Because some people seem hung up on facts .. here are some "facts" about this investigation
    1 This is NOT nor was ever intended to be an historical documentary
    2 This investigation was based on stories told to us by locals who conveyed their first hand experiences
    3 we never at any stage proclaimed the reported ghost to be that of a documented historical person she has been nick named "Aggie" by the locals who know of the stories.
    4 we presented some "possibilities" as to who she "may" have been and tried to make contact with whoever "might" come through
    5 No money passed hands this was totally a voluntary investigation to promote Gumeracha for tourism purposes.
    6 I personally may have made a couple of inadvertant errors in the telling of the deaths in the well story but it did not detract from the purpose of the story and the basic facts were given ie: three men died in the well near the pub. 7 Adelaides Haunted Horizons are a reputable and well respected tour company who NEVER fabricate evidence to suck viewers or customers in. They have top tourism awards to prove their integrity
    8 Anybody who questions their integrity is misguided and needs to do some real research and listen to or read their reviews.
    9 I personally love and respect their approach and integrity and have never had any reason to doubt it.
    10 dont let the "nay sayers" ruin your experience and come visit Gumeracha its a great little town!

    I really love doing Australian dark history tours, I’ve done Gawler, Kapunda, Katoomba and Pt Arthur’s, I really enjoy learning history in this way and tricking my teenage daughter to learn history this way too. I wouldn’t have known, for instance that my old doctors office was a hotel or the that my favourite park used to be a cemetery, if I hadn’t done the local dark history tour. I’ve learnt about the lives of and history of our land from their incarceration stories, or the strange facts of weird deaths that lead to discoveries of newspaper practices and medical history from autopsies. History of how people lived and died. I live in SA never new about the Gumeracha mine accident until this night. Same as I never new about the his5ory of Newman’s nursery and early SA gardens without these videos. It’s a great way to encase my kids in learning more and keeping history alive. Today I drove through Gumeracha on my way home from Mannum and I could tell my mum that near the pub there used to be a blacksmiths and there was a tragedy down the well. Now on more person knows more about Gumeracha than they did before.

      Sorry well not mine, oh and that lead to a discussion on how safety practices changed over time, and why OHS now requires a working in enclosed spaces ticket, strange where these videos lead and how a spirit of enquiry can open minds and lead to opportunities to learn more rather than close of conversations and put others off. Thanks everyone.

    I am the local Historian for the Gumeracha & District History Centre and have NEVER heard of a ghost at the Gum Hotel and have not been to find any old locals who have heard of this either. Very, very recent phenomenon or just a load of the proverbial

    • @haunted-horizons
      @haunted-horizons  3 года назад +17

      Hi Gum History, thank you for your input. I am not sure why you would not have heard of it, maybe it just wasn't talked about or maybe nobody bothered to try and reach out. Both the present owner and the landlord previously contacted us to tell us of some strange activity. Why some people experience this phenomena and others don't is a mystery in itself. I am gathering though that you don't believe in such things, and that is perfectly OK as this exercise was not just about the ghosts.
      I am not sure if you watched the video to see what it was truly all about, but this was simply about showcasing the hotel and Gumeracha in a slightly different way for tourism, nothing more. As we all know, businesses are struggling at the moment. It was done for free and just to see if there was anything there. Most of what we got, seemed to pertain to the accident, not the hotel. Maybe it was because we were there with a way for whatever it was to come through, that we got what we did. What you see in the video is simply a diary of what happened on the night and for people to make of it what they will.
      The previous landlord there contacted us with experiences as did Ben who worked there for some time and I am sure they wouldn't be lying, nor would the present landlady's daughter who you see featured in the video. We did get some curious responses, as to whether it is a ghost, I will leave that up to others to decide.
      At the end of the day, hopefully, we have helped highlight Gumeracha and the Hotel to our 23,000 followers on Facebook plus here on RUclips, so it will bring more people to see Gumeracha for themselves. This is what this campaign 'On the Road' has been all about. We have been blown away by the support of the locals in other towns that we have been to, who have embraced us trying to do something different to help.
      I am sure you will agree that all tourism/hospitality businesses could do with a little love at the moment in these crazy times :)

      @gumhistory3546 3 года назад

      @@haunted-horizons We have not heard of it because it is a wind-up!!! It would be more believable if ANY of your statements could be proved. The present owners have only been there for a very short time. If you would care to provide names and dates of the supposed 'accidents' and deaths we would be able to tell you if they did happen.

    • @haunted-horizons
      @haunted-horizons  3 года назад +12

      @@gumhistory3546 I am unsure of what statements as I haven't made any, the only accident we were told of was the well up from the Hotel, which I believe is fact due to the memorial you have there. No other statement has been made. We went in, in good faith. Obviously, you have no interest in the promotion of your town nor in supporting those that are trying to support you. It is a shame and very disappointing that Gumeracha is the only one that has adopted this attitude in a time when tourism needs any help it can get.

    • @gumhistory3546
      @gumhistory3546 3 года назад

      @@haunted-horizons Then please be honest and publish that this is a publicity stunt. The people of Gumeracha will not be happy about being portrayed as gullible fools. Again I challenge you to provide details of the 'ghosts' and we will verify if they ever existed.

    • @haunted-horizons
      @haunted-horizons  3 года назад +13

      @@gumhistory3546 this was NOT a publicity stunt at all. There is nothing in the video that was remotely put on, and couldn't be. The owners were serious about what they told me, as was Ben, as was Taylor as was the owner previously who inboxed us on his experiences. To call them liars appears very dismissive and rude. I certainly don't believe that we are showing your town as 'Gullible' at all. We are a multi-award winning 'Hall of Fame' tourism business who have NEVER put anything on in our lives. We just film and put out what happens. It was live... there was nothing sensational about it. I gather you have not watched the video. Sometimes we go to places and get nothing at all, in which case we will only blog about the history and place. So far others in your town have been supportive and realise we are just trying to help.
