    I've already posted this below, but all old Trainer cards are considered Items, for anyone wondering. From the compendium:
    Q: In Unlimited, can I use Korrina to get old Trainer cards like Professor Oak, Item Finder, etc.?
    A: Yes. If a card is not a Supporter or a Stadium card, it would be considered an Item card by a new card effect.

    as someone who played the TCG all the way back when base set was the only set, i looked through my old deck recently.
    four gust of wind, four super energy removals, one energy removal, two computer searches, two item finders, three professor oaks. and the only reason why i didn't have more is because computer search and item finder were rare cards that i couldn't pull from boosters, and i couldn't fit more item cards into my deck.
    that era of the pokemon TCG was hilariously broken.

    Hypnotoxic Laser would have been one of my choices, or at least close to entering the list.
    It is a case like reset stamp where it is an ok card on its own, but because of the context around the card it becomes really powefull and enables some nasty strategies
    With virbank city gym you got guaranteed 30 damage from poison with a chance to also confuse the opponent, and if they fail to remove the stadium/poison the damage kept adding between turns, so now decks that had low damage started doing decent damage, and decks with already high damage got into OHKO ranges.

      There was Virizion decks which nullify it, but the most common counter to it was a float stone Keldeo. Some decks even ran two of them to ensure they were never trapped asleep in the active.

    Catcher wasn't the only reprint in the history of the TCG that wasn't based on a mistranslation. There's also Rare Candy, which originally could be used on the turn you play the basic, but received an official errata during Black & White.

    One more thing that really helped vs seeker on it's latest reprint was that the meta had shifted around discarding your own resources to get other ones with cards like ultra ball and professors research, this made discarding your supporters a mostly risk free strategy if you could get them back at a later turn

      I feel like it would be especially powerful in the current format where players often tend to favor decks that play attackers that can be set up to attack with 2 energies, or that otherwise play cards that act as 2 energies in a single card (such as double turbo energy or Rapid Strike Energy, for example). Being able to take 2 energies off the board would be devastating for many of the best decks that have been seeing play recently

    • @anewfuture
      @anewfuture Год назад +1

      I remember back around 1999-2000, that super energy removal was so prevalent, that it almost single handedly made most pokemon useless. I tried to use so many different decks, but in the end, like most people at the time I just resorted to haymaker. For as strong as cards like Oak, computer search and item finder were, it was Super Energy Removal(and normal energy removal) that forced the meta to be what it was.
      I always felt bad using 4 copies of both, because of how boring it made games, but you still had to use it otherwise you were at a severe disadvantage. I no longer play the game, and don't really have a good understanding of what the meta is like now, but since it seems like you can still draw a lot of cards, risk free energy removals can never return.

    The beauty of VS seeker is that in combination with battle compressor, it allows you to play just a single copy of any situational supporter cards and still have access to them pretty consistently. This opens up space for more cards. For example most expanded decks only play a single copy each of Guzma, Ranger, N, Raihan, Colress or Guzma&Hala, and still can get away with it because of VS Seeker.

    I would 100% challenge your claim that crushing hammer has never been a meta defining card. Back during the Dragapult VMAX, Eternatus VMAX, etc. era, crushing hammer was an absolute necessity for most decks to keep up since there was very little energy acceleration. Going first was a huge deal, getting off turn one energy accelerator could make or break your game, missing a manual attachment was devastating, and crushing hammers single handedly could decide a whole game. I’m sure anyone who played during this time would agree. Great video though!

    • @seantaft3853

      They also aren't effected by Item Lock effects (Vikavolt V, for example) in Unlimited.

    • @DaneeBound
      @DaneeBound Год назад +68

      We should note that in Japan “Vanilla” Trainers have already been called Items cards (or rather グッズ Goods cards) since the dawn of the HeartGold SoulSilver era, while in the 2011-2012 modified format, in which both HGSS and early BW era cards were legal, the handful of legal “Vanilla” Trainer cards were ruled to be Item cards. And TPCi has even gone as far as to label all the Vanilla Trainers, on their website as Items, going all the way back to EX Ruby & Sapphire, the first set TPCi released, after Wizard’s licensing rights have lapsed.

    • @brenomanhaes9322

      Thats not really an errata though, they just completely changed the effects of a card under the same name. You cant take a quickball with the old printing to a tournament today for example. What happened to catcher that was unique was an admittedly balance oriented errata, as they just added a restriction to the card years after the release while older copies were still legal and even allowed the use of old printings of the card in tournaments.
