PING G430 LST vs TITLEIST TSR2 | 2023 Golf Drivers Comparison & Test

- The 2023 golf drivers lineup is superb, with new releases from essentially all of the top major manufacturers. The PING G430 LST driver serves as the low-spin model in the PING G430 drivers series, while the Titleist TSR2 driver serves as the high MOI model in the Titleist TSR drivers series.
In this video, 2nd Swing's Drew Mahowald and Kevin Kraft conduct a head-to-head test that features the PING G430 LST driver and the Titleist TSR2 driver. At first, it might not seem like the right comparison. The PING G430 LST driver and Titleist TSR2 driver seem to be designed for different players. However, Kevin has noticed in fittings that they perform similarly. So why not compare them on Trackman?

I picked up a TSR2 this year. Love, love, love how that head looks and performs. Low spin is definitely what I see on the course.
I happen to have both the TSR2 9 deg and the G430 LST 9 deg. I’m a 14 handicap who hits it all over the driver face. The TSR2 is absolutely phenomenal at retaining ball speed all over the face. The G430 LST ball speed (smash factor) dips significantly when the strike is further away from the centre. TSR2 is the best driver I have ever owned hands down. (Went thru the Cobra LTDx, Stealth last year)
Had the TSR2 but recently got fit for the G430 LST. I have never had a driver before that hits the launch conditions that the LST does. I am a high ball hitter, 7 deg upward attack angle and the LST is like a cheat code to bring down launch and spin. As always fitting is key!
Saw Kevin years ago when I was looking for a new driver......he's so good at what he does!! Thank you.
The TSR2 is an absolute fantastic driver best sound, look, feel and distance from anything I've hit to date.... Good to see it validated here
Thanks guys great video. Tsr2 vs Callaway Paradyne. Would be great.😊
Love'd to see this comparison. Tried 12 different new models to replace my broken G425 LST and these two were the best ones for me. Both were accurate but got similar results that TSR2 had tighter dispersion, a little bit faster with clubhead speed and ofc with ball speed causing it to carry almost 10 yards further. Wanted to like Ping more but had to buy TSR2 due to performance and the best part is that those awful feeling strikes were very playable.
I clicked on this so quick. I have both of them. I alternate between the two. Keep up the good work boys. Love your channel.
Great video, I was playing the TSR3 10 but recently I tested the TSR2 9 and was getting almost identical numbers but the dispersion was better with the TSR2 and it is definitely more forgiving on poor swings so I am now going to switch, the stock Tensei 1K Black 65 TX has been a tremendous fit for my swing and it outperformed various Hzrdus and Ventus models.
Awesome stuff as usual!
These are the 2 I came down to in my fitting recently . Both spun similar , depends on strike . Ended up with a higher ball speed with the G430 LST w/ the Kia’li white . Go get fit . Was just fitted at 2nd swing and it was a great experience.
What are the shaft options for the TSR 2 and any suggestions on how to pick the correct one for myself? thanks! 🙏really liked the video! 🤙
Always enjoy ur vids. I just switched from TsR 2 to G430 Max 9 which for me is the BEST driver it’s more forgiving and longer than the TsR 2, stealth 2 plus and LST driver
Great job on the video, but set the ping up for higher spin rates and higher launch. If they would of used at least the same type of shaft for each. The ping had a mid-launch, mid-spin shaft while the tsr2 had a low-launch low-spin shaft. This would've been a more accurate comparison if they at least used the Mitsubishi Kai'li white shaft which is also a stock option from ping (low-launch low-spin shaft) instead of the tour 2.0 chrome (mid-launch, mid-spin).
The most interesting takeaway from this is the strike location and the ball speed. The average swing speed is similar however the ball speed is higher on the tsr even though he was hitting it above the center. This typically reduces smash and spin however smash factor stayed up. If he hit more shots in the center with the tsr I'd say you'd see spin increase 200-500rpm and be similar to the ping.
This is exactly the video I was looking for. Great info about two pretty similar drivers. Awesome stuff, guys!
Thanks for watching!!
I play the TS4. Got fitted by a local pro two years ago and because I make consistent middle contact, that was what he thought best. No complaints whatsoever as I bomb it and straight. I now see some videos that the TSR4 is way more forgiving than the TS4 (some say very hard to hit). A buddy bought the Ping G430 Max and loves it. But I'll stay with Titleist and possibly buy the TSR4, since my TS4 really has been my best driver ever.
Good, just need a Mid to High player to test the TSR1 and equivalent in Ping or PXG 6.
Incredible how people vary. My results were the exact opposite. The only difference is that I used Kai'li white in the G430 LST. Ball speeds on the LST were higher than the TSR2 and TSR3 by 2mph.
Both Ludvig Aberg and Gordon Sargent play the TSR2 in 9 degrees so I guess that it suits a very wide range of golfers, I played the TSI3 before the TSR3 but I have been super impressed by the exceptional overall performance of the TSR2.
curious how they would compare with the same shaft
Is the White Ball Flight the Club Path or Face Angle?
You guys do a nice job with your channel. Be careful to continue to give honest opinions.
I have the tsr3 and it's definitely low spinning! Barely gets above 2100. I love it. But I would like it to spin a little bit more
I was quite confused at first but they were right. Now I’m curious to see Kevin hit the tsr 3 and 4
would love to see a TSR1 comparison....cheers from Canada
I recently went through a driver fitting and my results were a bit opposite. I had been gaming the G425 Max, but found that I was putting too much spin on my drives - this is b/c of user error as I hit my driver anywhere from 0 degrees to -0.4 degrees. My fitter had me try the G430 LST, TSR2 and TSR3 (I also hit the Paradigm triple diamond but that was shelved after three swings). I hit the G430 LST and both TSR's roughly the same distance, but was getting a bit more distance with the Ping. The dispersion with the Ping was the best for me (TSR3 was the worst) - super tight grouping vs the other two. As much as I loved the sound and feel of the TSR2, I couldn't argue against the G430 LST. They're all great clubs - just get fit and find what works best for your swing.
Great video, thanks. Using the same shaft should be a given, IMO. A little bit less banter would save some time. 😉
I'm sorry but just because the TSR2 looks better than the TSI2 does not mean it is on the same level as the TSR3. The TSR3 is without a doubt in my mind the best looking, sounding, and feeling driver I have ever hit. Comparing either of the Titleist drivers to a Ping is an easy win. Just my opinion. I will be gaming the TSR3 for atleast the next 5+ years for sure.
What shafts is he using in each head
This was a tough one, trying to decide between these two drivers and there’s lots of great comparison here but I tried both those shafts and ya they are different animals. After hitting them you could almost write off the accuracy and spin differences between the two drivers just on the different shafts. Love to see how the ping would preform with the 1k black.
or the Kali white. With that heat pattern it would perform the same. Still the forgiving driver vs ping's low spin driver. Hat tip to titliest.
It should be 430 LST vs. TSR3, and/ or the TSR2 vs. the 430 MAX....those are the comparisons. Great vid though
Be nice to have someone demo compare with more than a 105 swing speed. Just to kind of see what the drivers are really capable of. Maybe save iron demos for this guy.
G430 LST MOI(5000) is actually a little more than the TSR2(4900ish).
Ping doesn’t stand a chance against Titleist IMO. Great video
Agree. They nailed it with the looks of the 2. The TSi2 looks like trash in comparison although it's great in performance.
I tested most of the new drivers in my fitting and it came down to these two as the finalists. The TSR2 was slightly longer and better on mishits. I could get it out 320 with 170+ ball speed on a 45in shaft when I went after it and I was hitting 290-300 with a fairway finder swing. They are both great clubs!
Does the TSR2 sound tingy?
Not at all. Perhaps in a comparison to G430, but in a vacuum, no it does not
Came down to TSR2 and Paradym for me and Paradym narrowly won out.
Should this not have been a tsr3 or 4 head to head with the LST?
they explain why it isn’t
Pretty sure that's a low spin/launch shaft on the TSR and a mid launch/spin shaft on the Ping
yea that’s my only critique of this vid. Still appreciate it nonetheless because I didn’t know TSR2 could compete with 430LST on spin
Is Kevin's info mean his club face is open to his club path...
Give me em both.
You are testing driver head spin, or at least you are touting it , yet you are using two totally different golf shafts. Aside from the significantly different strike locations, the toque and flex point of those shafts is not at all alike.
Let’s see him hit the 4
TSR2 has it on looks in spades but the test has to be. Against TSR3 You blew this one guys It’s apples to apples not apples to pineapples 🤷🏼♂️⛳️🏌🏼♂️
Don't really understand the purpose of this. Driver and putters - very very personal choices . No comparison really helps
Good luck playing golf with sub 2000 spin rates. I'll take 2500 all day and your money...
Lst should be compared to tsr3. Not apples to apples
If we had a nickel for every time we got this comment... 😂 we explain in the video!
@@2ndswing I understand you tried to explain but the fact is these drivers are marketed to completely different people.
We’re not concerned with who their marketed towards - we just want to show the performance of the drivers! And we’ve noticed in fittings these two models are quite similar.
@@2ndswing then you should have expanded the test to include the max and the tsr3 to show the full spectrum. Interesting tactic to take a standoffish stance with a customer. Guess I’ll buy clubs elsewhere.
Ping has always made the ugliest clubs, still do.
