PING G430 LST vs TITLEIST TSR2 | 2023 Golf Drivers Comparison & Test

  • The 2023 golf drivers lineup is superb, with new releases from essentially all of the top major manufacturers. The PING G430 LST driver serves as the low-spin model in the PING G430 drivers series, while the Titleist TSR2 driver serves as the high MOI model in the Titleist TSR drivers series.
    In this video, 2nd Swing's Drew Mahowald and Kevin Kraft conduct a head-to-head test that features the PING G430 LST driver and the Titleist TSR2 driver. At first, it might not seem like the right comparison. The PING G430 LST driver and Titleist TSR2 driver seem to be designed for different players. However, Kevin has noticed in fittings that they perform similarly. So why not compare them on Trackman?

    I picked up a TSR2 this year. Love, love, love how that head looks and performs. Low spin is definitely what I see on the course.

    I happen to have both the TSR2 9 deg and the G430 LST 9 deg. I’m a 14 handicap who hits it all over the driver face. The TSR2 is absolutely phenomenal at retaining ball speed all over the face. The G430 LST ball speed (smash factor) dips significantly when the strike is further away from the centre. TSR2 is the best driver I have ever owned hands down. (Went thru the Cobra LTDx, Stealth last year)

    Had the TSR2 but recently got fit for the G430 LST. I have never had a driver before that hits the launch conditions that the LST does. I am a high ball hitter, 7 deg upward attack angle and the LST is like a cheat code to bring down launch and spin. As always fitting is key!

    Love'd to see this comparison. Tried 12 different new models to replace my broken G425 LST and these two were the best ones for me. Both were accurate but got similar results that TSR2 had tighter dispersion, a little bit faster with clubhead speed and ofc with ball speed causing it to carry almost 10 yards further. Wanted to like Ping more but had to buy TSR2 due to performance and the best part is that those awful feeling strikes were very playable.

    Great video, I was playing the TSR3 10 but recently I tested the TSR2 9 and was getting almost identical numbers but the dispersion was better with the TSR2 and it is definitely more forgiving on poor swings so I am now going to switch, the stock Tensei 1K Black 65 TX has been a tremendous fit for my swing and it outperformed various Hzrdus and Ventus models.

    These are the 2 I came down to in my fitting recently . Both spun similar , depends on strike . Ended up with a higher ball speed with the G430 LST w/ the Kia’li white . Go get fit . Was just fitted at 2nd swing and it was a great experience.

    Great job on the video, but set the ping up for higher spin rates and higher launch. If they would of used at least the same type of shaft for each. The ping had a mid-launch, mid-spin shaft while the tsr2 had a low-launch low-spin shaft. This would've been a more accurate comparison if they at least used the Mitsubishi Kai'li white shaft which is also a stock option from ping (low-launch low-spin shaft) instead of the tour 2.0 chrome (mid-launch, mid-spin).

  • @jim60631
    @jim60631 Год назад +1

    The most interesting takeaway from this is the strike location and the ball speed. The average swing speed is similar however the ball speed is higher on the tsr even though he was hitting it above the center. This typically reduces smash and spin however smash factor stayed up. If he hit more shots in the center with the tsr I'd say you'd see spin increase 200-500rpm and be similar to the ping.

    I play the TS4. Got fitted by a local pro two years ago and because I make consistent middle contact, that was what he thought best. No complaints whatsoever as I bomb it and straight. I now see some videos that the TSR4 is way more forgiving than the TS4 (some say very hard to hit). A buddy bought the Ping G430 Max and loves it. But I'll stay with Titleist and possibly buy the TSR4, since my TS4 really has been my best driver ever.

    Incredible how people vary. My results were the exact opposite. The only difference is that I used Kai'li white in the G430 LST. Ball speeds on the LST were higher than the TSR2 and TSR3 by 2mph.

    Both Ludvig Aberg and Gordon Sargent play the TSR2 in 9 degrees so I guess that it suits a very wide range of golfers, I played the TSI3 before the TSR3 but I have been super impressed by the exceptional overall performance of the TSR2.

    I recently went through a driver fitting and my results were a bit opposite. I had been gaming the G425 Max, but found that I was putting too much spin on my drives - this is b/c of user error as I hit my driver anywhere from 0 degrees to -0.4 degrees. My fitter had me try the G430 LST, TSR2 and TSR3 (I also hit the Paradigm triple diamond but that was shelved after three swings). I hit the G430 LST and both TSR's roughly the same distance, but was getting a bit more distance with the Ping. The dispersion with the Ping was the best for me (TSR3 was the worst) - super tight grouping vs the other two. As much as I loved the sound and feel of the TSR2, I couldn't argue against the G430 LST. They're all great clubs - just get fit and find what works best for your swing.

    I'm sorry but just because the TSR2 looks better than the TSI2 does not mean it is on the same level as the TSR3. The TSR3 is without a doubt in my mind the best looking, sounding, and feeling driver I have ever hit. Comparing either of the Titleist drivers to a Ping is an easy win. Just my opinion. I will be gaming the TSR3 for atleast the next 5+ years for sure.

    This was a tough one, trying to decide between these two drivers and there’s lots of great comparison here but I tried both those shafts and ya they are different animals. After hitting them you could almost write off the accuracy and spin differences between the two drivers just on the different shafts. Love to see how the ping would preform with the 1k black.

    I tested most of the new drivers in my fitting and it came down to these two as the finalists. The TSR2 was slightly longer and better on mishits. I could get it out 320 with 170+ ball speed on a 45in shaft when I went after it and I was hitting 290-300 with a fairway finder swing. They are both great clubs!
