Bravo on a great “March Madness”! Thanks to you, I treated myself to a TSR2 for my 69th birthday. Replaced a 4-year old TS2. Just a fantastic feel at impact plus about 15 yards more carry (according to Trackman). Gonna put it to the on-course test this week at Fox Hollow Golf Club. Wouldn’t even considered it without your videos! Titleist should reward you!
Hey Gabe, I love your content. Every big name golf channel is doing a driver bracket too, but yours is the best IMO. On-course results matter so much more than a simulator. Thanks for taking the time to make these. Super helpful and enjoyable
Thanks Gabe! I have never been able to bag a Titleist driver, maybe this one will be the one.l? The results from the PING are exactly what I have seen from all of the drivers for me the last 15+ years. So for me if I can turn a long iron into a mid iron half the time (?) That's potentially 2 or 3 strokes per round with a longer drive with the Titleist. Happy Resurrection Day everyone!
That’s awesome Gabe…I came out the same way you did when I was testing drivers… I was coming from a SIM2…testing everything under the sun…and the TSR3 came out on top…interestingly, I’m getting more distance with it, more accuracy with it, yet my spin numbers are a little higher than I usually see from driver (between 2500-3000)…probably adds to the forgiveness…but it still hits farther than my SIM2 and all the other clubs I hit…I’ve tried to knock down the spin with different settings and shafts, but then it gets squirrelly…so, it’s staying right on A1 for now…it’s giving me 245-260…
Two really good products from two premier companies. You couldn't go wrong with either. It would be interesting for me if you took your new champion to some fitting location to see if you could get even more out of it with an upgraded shaft.
Really superb series! Its so much better to watch an on-course thorough test of these Drivers than just watching dry ball data from a sim, which is what a lot of other channels are doing. I really didn't see you playing a Titleist this year, but I am starting to think Ping are resting on their laurels a little with the 430. Sure, it will appeal to the Ping devotee, but that sound isn't very inspiring, and other manufacturers are catching up in forgiveness. I actually thought the Ping G410 was a nice looking club, but the styling since has gone downhill, and that also goes for the matching irons. Let's go hit some bombs in 2023!
I haven’t played a Titleist Club, other than Vokey wedge, or Cameron putter in 25 years. So this is going to be different for sure. But I’m really pumped for it. Thanks so much for all the support!
Yes it is although the 430 LST like most low spin offerings is smaller at 440cc where thw low sipn offering from Titleist is the TSR4 The 3 is for high swing speed low handicap players and totally q terrible comparison the 2 was the club to go apples for apples with the 430
Really enjoyed this whole bracket comparison match ups! Thanks for putting this together! I am sure it was fun for you as well. Maybe now you could do the same thing with different irons for game improvement? TourEdge Hot Launch E523 Mizuno JPX 923 Irons Ping Irons Callaway Mavrik or Paradigm Wilson Launchpad irons Titleist Taylormade Thoughts? Thanks again and really enjoyed looking at all aspects of each of these drivers!
Great review! It also just went into my bag! I had a fitting, coincidentally between the G430 and the TSR range. Personally, I'm not a fan of the PING looking down at it. For me it was the TSR3, which I found extremely forgiving, and it definitely pops off the face! Happy Days!
Not sure if this is supposed to be an advert for the Titleist driver....but I'm more than halfway through the video and you've hit 2 rounds of shots and your clubhead speed for the Titleist is higher on every single swing. I don't think the aerodynamics of their head is going to consistently give you 2+ MPH swing speed extra on every swing.
Titleist are generally faster. Ping drivers and woods are built heavier, with a focus on consistency across the face. Regardless of what he says, the Ping is the better driver. Some of this Titleist Tee shots were a bit rough, and on a bad day he's easily in the bunker, the water and etc.
Treat my grandson for his 18th birthday fitted by Titiest TSR 3 stiff shaft black H ,carried all his fitting shots past 290 yds, such fast ball speeds,he's a happy lad!!
If you were to use a lower compression golf ball say the Callaway Chrome soft Titleist trufeel your rollout might even be more. Also if you were using a regular shaft you get another ten or twelve yards.
I bout TSR2 driver after watching this video. I used to own many drivers in the past but TSR2 driver is the only driver that can send my ball to where I want to send. It also creating really good sound and fell when I hit it. I love it!!!
What a great review! And it’s not into a stupid net!! Looks like I’ll be trying both out soon. And knowing me, buying both just to add to my normal confusion. And I just got my Arnold Palmer hats - thank you!
I wish I could get that trajectory with a 10.5 degree driver. I am at 9 degrees and still tend to get the ball up. I guess that isn't the worst problem to have but I think I would get better swing and ball speed if I could hit a higher lofted driver maybe with a flatter line through the ball. But I have always been a high flyer with my swing. I just don't generate the clubspeed to get away with it as much anymore. Gonna do my own side by side comparison this week. My Stealth2 Plus driver against my old Hogan Radial driver I had in high school. I'm also going to test my P790 irons against some ancient Acushnet (yep, that old) 108 irons I used to play in HS. This is what happens when a 55 year old guy gets on ebay and decides he really wants to see if old clubs can hang with the newer stuff. Especially the irons. A friend of mine upgraded from his starter driver to the Ping 430 Max driver and loves the thing. He now outdrives me, something he never did before. It does help that he is almost ten years younger than me. I hit a few times and it is a sweet club. If the spin rate was a little bit better I might have reconsidered my driver choice.
You had better swing speed with the Titliest. You also had better smash factor which means more center contact. Both great drivers, but Ping should have gotten the value score since it’s 10% cheaper. Loved the series again!
Great video. Nice to see them compared out on on the course vs a simulator. I’ve got the ping g425 driver. Forgiveness wise it has been kind to me. The Titleist looks and sounds awesome. Ten more yards sounds nice too.
TSR Drivers do live up to the hype. Got fitted for one back in August 2022 had the driver is still the longest hitting driver I own. The TSR seems to have gotten lost in the new releases of 2023. Flying under the radar. Which is fine by me, as I hit golf balls past Paradyms and G430s.
Great way of testing the drivers , I got into supporting a driver ! Glad the TSI won it is probably the best overall though I can see the TM and Ping would work for a lot of players. If I wait 18 months I can pick the TSI up second hand for my budget .
Interesting comparison between the G430 max (more spin, more forgiving) compared to a TSR3 driver (low spin, low forgiveness). Not really comparable as they are totally two different drivers for two different types of players.
I was looking for a TSR2 but ended up with a TSR3 accidentally. It worked out. I can now feel more confident about my driver compared to my TS2 with the same shaft.
TSR’s are the best, recently custom fit for TSR2 with stock Hzdrs Red CB 6.0 50g shaft. Outperformed my 2016 M2, Paradym and G430 max. Leader in ball speed, sound/feel. Won’t be leaving my bag for many years
@@LetsPlayThru thanks Gabe. That day I hit TSR2 last out of all 4 drivers and I knew immediately on my first shot that was going to be the one. Sound/feel is unparalleled. My old gamer 2016 M2 was 2nd place for sound/feel for sure
Thx for the bracket. So many nice drivers to choose from. I will be keeping my Calloway Rogue this yr as I bought new Mizuno Pro 223s. My next big golf expenditure will be a sim. Hopefully it will be similar to yours.
Been following you for a bit now and have been interested in your driver bracket challenge. However, I'm confused by your scoring methodology and suspect it is flawed. Could you explain why you allocate "all or none" for distance and accuracy, but double allocate points for the other three categories?
Whatever happened to “iron Byron”? Wouldn’t that be a truer test? I haven’t seen it used in a while. I just got a TSR2 and it’s the best club I ever hit.
Hello Gabe. So after 2 months after the Driver Battle bracket results, how do you find the TSR3 performance, still in your bag? I am evaluating whether to change the tsr for the Mavrik that I currently use
I'm a big Titleist guy and given your past reviews of the previous Titleist driver models I'm pleasantly shocked by this outcome. How did the 3 compare to the 2? Also the R models are that much of an improvement over the I? I still have the I but will be moving to the R soon.
I was just as shocked as you, Jeremy. As you alluded to, I wasn’t a huge fan of the last generation, but this TSR line is special for me. The 3 was significantly better than the 2. I am not sure why, to be honest with you, but I’ve gained significant yardage with the TSR3 vs TSR2. YMMV
Did you calculate the difference between distance/ball speed drop off on “bad hits”? TSR did great, but how much are you penalized if you don’t hit hit perfect(1.40+).
From one mere mortal to another, Thank you for the content on your 2023 driver search. Looking forward to a great 2023 of content from you. (I also ended up getting fitted for a TSR3)
Had my very first club fitting ever and guess what i went home with for my first new driver in years? Tsr2 and i doubt anything will ever beat it. I've moved up from being terrible at golf to just not being very good.
TSR 3 went against g430 max? The TSR 3 is low spin distance in titleist lineup, the max should go against the TSR 2. I think your distance gains evaporate. Its obvious you like feel and looks of TSR 3 but watching ball flights the ping was very consistent, the TSR was not even though distance was superior. Just seems like got away with mishits with TSR which in a real round with pressure might not workout so well like the one almost in trees etc both are great clubs I just think if you sub in TSR 2 probably a tie or ping wins. Cant go wrong with either. Id put g430 lst against TSR 3
If you can't hit the TSr3 straight, you don't belong hitting a $600 Titleist, you're out of the golf swing league.....You should probably hitting a $200 Kirkland.......FYI, Ping's are like swinging a dump truck.
Purely subjective, but not a fan of what everyone calls the “classic” look of the TSR3. They look good on the bottom, but looking down at the top these look like old clubs, and don’t look premium. That’s generally why I have liked TM drivers in the past. Just a me thing. I am still leaning towards the Tour Edge, which is odd, as many people think those are ugly.
The battle was over after the 2nd hole. Wasn't even close, on the first hole you said you hit 3 bad drives with the TSR3 and they still went considerably further than Ping and all still in the fairway. On the 2nd hole TSR3 crushed Ping. Have no idea about all the drama on the last hole and you saying "it comes down to the last 2 balls" because Titleist crushed Ping on all previous holes. TSR3 is leaps and bounds better than Ping in every aspect, looks, feel, forgiveness and DISTANCE
Your launch monitor doesn’t mean anything because it’s not driving with what year walking out into the fairway for distance when I am interested in is how slow you swing the ping my guess is because peeing is heavy generally but yet the ball speed is way up
I don’t think folks are going to let $50 stand in the way if they’re ready to spend $549 on a new driver they will also spend $599. It’s just not a significant enough difference.
Reading from another comment below, you were fitted to a TSR3 instead of the 2. It would be be interesting to see an on course test of the 3 v 2.
