All I'm saying is it's subjective. Been listening myself since highschool 06-09, first concert I caught was in 2009, but didn't truly fall in love or start following them until Alana joined in 2014 Looking back, I find Murph to be a little... predictable(?) in the later years. Nothing wrong with someone liking him more then Alana, just not my speed.
Murph immediately post cancer is probably one of the two best periods in the bands’ history. I definitely haven’t been following them as closely in the last 5 or so years, and I am not sure if this has to do with Alana or if it’s just the fact that I’m an old fart who can’t drive a couple thousand miles for a run anymore. Definitely looking forward to catching them again soon. For me the biggest difference is the way Zach plays. Before his wrists started to deteriorate he was an animal!
@@rowanwebster7161 No way... that may appear so only because the band had sucked for the past ~2-3 years before that. They all looked super bored on stage. They had a brief stint of post-cancer murphy where they were playing relatively well -- relative to the bored vibe which lasted maybe 6 months and then they started to suck again. I was at this show and it was clear that the band is moving into a new renaissance. will it last? who knows. That said, I don't think alana has the same organic groove vibe that murph had in his prime but it is improving every time I see them. Murph essentially checked out in 2010. Alana is a very technical player and at times, it does not mesh but 2010 on murph is far worse.

To each their own. I liked early Murph, but not the last few years he was with the band.
