David, thank you for so kindly sharing the tools of your trade with us. As always, I appreciate your beautiful playing. I am not aware of any steel player-now or ever-who can remarkably play the variety of styles you play and elicit such emotion as you do. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and from the hearts of all those who love this instrument for your generous contribution to the unique world of pedal steel guitar.
I can't say it enough. This is the stuff I grew up on & played guitar solos in my bedroom. Along with Ghost Riders & Sleep Walk. These guys re fabulous!
With my family history being so much a part of the Old West, this haunting melody creates pictures of cowboys out on the prairies and Indians on their ponies, and of course some of my family traveling by covered wagon. What a wonderful job you guys did on Apache, a classic old country western instrumental.
I just love watching you guys play. The pedal steel sounds great in counterpoint to the strat. John nails the Hank Marvin licks and vibrato. Great job guys.
Wow you guys deserve a spot on the Marty Stuart show way to pick & grin! I have all three versions jorgmen Ingan, the Shadows & Jr. Brown but you guys version is my new raining crown favorite. Once again way to pick & grin all the way from Portland Oregon
David .Happy to see you and the Justice back here again Nice work! A special tip of the hat to John Russell for a job well done.Glad you stayed with the George L it sounds awesome. My best to you both. (hope to hear more great stuff from you two soon) Roy in Nova Scotia
Dave and John you guys sound great!!!! I almost didn't listen to this because of the talking at the start, but man am I glad I waited - I have never heard this on a steel guitar before and John just nailed it! Thanks to both of you for sharing this; you have a new subscriber my friends.
Hey you guys are just brilliant, great playing and the sound quality is quite exceptional, interesting talk through tour of your studio equipment too, thanks for posting.
Enjoyed that a LOT David and John! I heard the Shadows version of Apache long after the one by Jorgen Ingram which was the version that they played on radio stations in the SF Bay Area back in 'the day'..... So, I kind of learned that version first.....Then, I added some Hank Marvin stuff to it later and now I have an arrangement that salutes both of them!
Hi David, excellent performance and good sound. Not everyday we can sit and listen to a Shadows instrumental backed by a steel guitar. Steady as she goes guys, give us more of this:)
Great playing and arranging! Also enjoyed your studio/gear tour! Always good to know what rigs guys that can really play are using! And that mic does sound amazing!
I'm not sure a pedal steel guitar can be legally operated by a British citizen but y'alls cover of Apache is as good as you would ever want to hear. Enjoyed it I did.
catman916 The version you know actually came out in '61, but your only just a year out. 😊 The Shadows version was number 1 in the U.K. in June '60. That's the version I know and love.
