- Hey guys, a lot of you asked me to customize a PS3. So, I found this one in Ebay and decided to transform this PS3 with a custom paint. I used three matte colors: black, grey and orange. This is my first time using matte spray paint. I liked it a lot. This kind of paint put in my PS3 a modern and bold look. The system was in a very good working condition so, this time was not necessary to fix anything. The controller was painted as well to match the console. This was amazing, The final product was so satisfying. A Sega Master System II would be a good console to do next, I always loved the strange door hinge that covered the cartridge slot lol

Ahhhh PAL Snes! I am from Canada and I own a PAL Snes! I absolutely love the design! Everything is great except for the fact it outputs 50hz :(

It looks like that the PS3 is one of the most complicated consoles ever, even compared to more modern ones ? Seems like its a very complex system inside
That console was garbage tbh, at least it pushed me towards pc gaming
Facts
Yep, the first ps3 systems are super complex inside, the model shown in the vid is an E01 but there are others such as the A01, B01 and G01 that share the same internal layout. A massive redesign happened with the K01 and onwards.

4:46 Now I know why the PS3 cost $800 to manufacture when it was launched in 2006. Just look how gigantic that motherboard is, plus the huge cpu and gpu and other components glued into the pcb itself. I can imagine Sony was in a panic mode for selling the PS3 for $599-499. Since they're losing $200-300 for every systems sold. It's like they pick a huge rock and bash it into own head.

Man, it would be so cool if the plastic shell was kept translucent, but RGB LEDs were fitted underneath it.

Great restoration. This is the 60gb model. Also it's the only PS3 model that is backwards compatible with PS2 games 🙂 I'd like to see a custom SNES :) keep up the good work and keep giving us great content 👍

this is the 80gb model, the CECHE01; and there are 4 models backwards compatible with ps2 discs: CECHA, CECHB, CECHC (EUR) and CECHE
CECHA01 the best one imo! Full backward compatible hardware. None of that partial emulation bs.
Still have ps3 60gb launch day works to this day and now it's in my closet
It's not 100 percent compatible on even an A01 those still have to emulate many system functions of a ps2, including the ps1 cpu that was used in ps2 games

Make sure you also remove the ihs off both processors, the thermal compound is completely destroyed under them.
@@Dirty_Bear22 really? is thermal paste expensive?
@@phrg8332 yup. Sony used low quality paste, after all these years the thermal paste is all dried up and no good. Plenty of videos about PS3 ihs removal. Good paste is 10-20 dollars a tube, enough for 2-3 replacements. I like using Thermal GRIZZLY hydronaut paste in PS3 consoles. I forgot to mention, but the nec Tokin capacitors are a common ylod failure, and should also be replaced with better capacitors. Custom firmware is recommended because the factory fan tables run pretty hot.
Ihs removal and nec Tokin capacitor replacement is difficult if you aren’t experienced, and will lead to permanent damage if performed incorrectly. I use cramolin flux remover to melt the glue, and .235mm fishing line to saw off the ihs glue. Some specialty repair will do both for $100-150.
Fat and early slim PS3 all need new paste under the ihs, and nec Tokin capacitors replaced if you want a good future lifespan. Later slim models fixed the capacitor issue, but would still greatly benefit from getting the ihs removed. On newer slim consoles the ihs is incredibly difficult to remove. The last generation of super slims are the most reliable as they may have a soldered ihs, but some still use thermal glue.
Unfortunately preserving older PS3 consoles is pretty involved...

Perhaps a 1TB solid state drive is important for the PS3 running faster. That is what I did on my PS3.

Have you considered removing the IHS to change the extra thermal paste beneath? The difference in noise and temperature is night and day, I'd highly recommend looking in to it, love you videos!

You should have put an SSD in it and used kryonaut thermal paste because ps3s tend to over heat especially the fat 60gb models.
