I find this mission to be a bit of a relic from the First Books era. Whether you choose to destroy the Undead or Imperials, these bases do not build new units so it is important to go after one as soon as possible. The Imperials leave if you destroy the Ardoz base so that seems like the clear choice. I started my expansion town hall so early that the first Rohir attack wave recognized it as a viable location to move against, otherwise it would go for my main base which is why I started moving back in that direction at first.
I tower spam like crazy on this map since the Scarec base will send sizable air attacks against whatever rightmost base you own. I guess you could send wave after wave of Wyverns against their base but that seems like a waste of time (Largoth would be proud). Purple's attack waves in particular are pretty gnarly, so I spam up my right and middle bases and leave my army in the middle. Lots of towers alone can handle their first attack, but they become more difficult.
The Demon Slave base also does not require a huge commitment, so I take the risk to hit it early and get some forward tower spam up against the Scarec air waves. Make sure to get the Demon Lord and Eredar creeps along the right of the map also. The Rohir base is fairly spread out and I advise caution when pushing towards their Black Citadel. This area will draw Rahandir and his defensive force if you dive too deep, and he can really mess up your army with his Ice Meteor attack. My effort to avoid this plus some luck managed to not drag him down to me. I was able to destroy Rohir and push right into Splecir without needing to rebuild much, but generally odds are you’ll have to deal with Purple reacting to you too when dealing with Teal.
The Ejara base in the bottom left does not build units or send attack waves similar to Ardoz, but has a tome in it. The upper left area with all the Nerubian stuff is why I refer to the First Books era; the spot up there is a reused spot from the original iteration of this map that now seems really out of the way for little value. This is why I leave it for the end after I have removed the pressure from my defenses.
This map can ultimately be quite hard due to large, somewhat unpredictable enemy attack waves and defensive forces. I advise moving fast to do both Optional Objectives, secure against the air attacks, and then hold a strong middle defense against Teal and Purple until you're ready to push in. If you can’t destroy Ardoz and the Demon Slaves at roughly the same speed I did, it will become more and more challenging to do so. With 5 gold mines, you can make forward production and rebuild armies right away when trying to deal with a potentially stacked Rohir/Splecir/Rahandir defensive force.
After all this years, i wish shar made ephrog atleast a demi hero. Would be fun & useful to have his aura around in the battlefield especially against demons, redfist & others.
Also Zairmak Vs Rahandir battle would be cool tbh. Two old being battling each other to death wil be fire 🔥.
Another relic of the First Book era: the Death Knight called Lord Veringar at 32:05 (even if he doesn't look anything like the original).
