I think Sam deserves more than a big raise also big respect for building a very smart home gym, very impressed ! it's easy lashing out money and building an impressive workout area, doing it with a limited budget is what many of us including me are jugling to do. Good work Sam !
Sam seems like a simple man that prefers to provide for himself. At least that's what I envision, because it's a little odd (not wrong, just odd) being Coop's #2, who has everything, or access to/connections to everything... and here Sam is watching budget items for small price drops over months. Major props to Sam!
This home gym is probably closer to reality for most of your followers. It's more inspiring to see someone who is making it work on a budget versus someone with a mega checking account who goes out and buys the nicest of everything. Thanks!!
This kind of stuff is what “most people” use and can afford (Affirm does not equal afford) and use/need for basic and effective training. It has limitations, yes, but it is enough. More videos like these, please.
Not to push shade but I have a versatile bench, barbell, dumbell, plates and I am a few times that guy''s size. You really don't need all these fancy things you just need to lift.
I love some of the recent focus on Sam. He’s been with the channel for a while and has obviously developed a high degree of knowledge of the industry. He’s also very fluent in his communication! Great video!!
Its time to get ready for the summer. All year working from home fat just built up on me like crazy. I will start with some short workouts in my home gym which I built a year ago. Also I found really nice meal plan at Next Level Diet. I hope this combo will get me in shape. If not, there are some others websites I believe. Wish me some luck.
Coop, please do more small gym reviews its nice to see the thought process that owner puts into them. I also like to see more videos of people building their own Coop Squat and other space-saving idea's for these small spaces.
I feel like Sam’s situation with the equipment he buys is very relatable. Often times I feel like I see videos from equipment channels and they call something a “budget pick” and it ends up being like $500. This video shows that unless you are super picky and serious about gym equipment. You probably won’t notice if a knob on a bench “feels” expensive or if the powder coat is “bad”. Most people don’t actually sweat the small details and what you can afford is oftentimes times perfect for what you are trying to accomplish.
Coop: "No, I don't have a square of gym flooring to spare. I can't spare a square." Sam: "Oh, is it interlocking rubber tiles? Cause if it is, I'll take stall mats. I'll take one puny foam tile!"
All a small gym needs is a full rack with hi low pulley weight stack and all the Chinese made attachments that can fit on it especially a landmine attachment
I really enjoyed this video. It feels a lot more relevant to those just starting their home gym. Of all the home gym reviews I've seen on this channel, this one felt most like what I've got at home. A+
All the super fancy stuff gets the attention but videos like this are great because this is what the majority of people train with at home, and what the majority of people who don't think they can make a home gym work need to see. I've more recently built out a gym that is way overkill but for years now I've supplemented having some version of a "home gym" to pair with a gym membership. Sam has all he needs to get started and make progress.
GOOD FOR SAM!! Get at it bro. This may be my favorite video yet. I love seeing videos of realistic home gyms of normal, everyday people. Keep them coming!
The only benefits of a small space is you can only fit so much equipment so it helps makes buying decisions easier and in the process easier on the budget.
I actually prefer a smaller space because it means everything is pretty much within arms reach. I have a smaller space than his, with a foldable power rack and heavy duty safety pins by Ethos (with pullup bar), plate pins built into the wall (also Ethos) that are currently holding like 600lbs, an ironmaster super pro with dip handle (thanks Coop for the suggestion, AWESOME piece of equipment), a dumbbell rack (generic heavy duty mini rack, has 70s, 40s,30s,20s,10s with room for another set). I built a pulley system that attaches to the rack and has an OLY pin by Ironmind that I've had for years (used with rolling thunder and whatnot). Really the last thing I want is either a rower or assault bike, but they need to be foldable or compact. All this is stored in a 12'x4' space in my garage, I have horse stall mats that extend another 5' during active use (my wife actually pulls into the garage right over the top of them when not in use)
I don't classify this as a small space. The dude is lucky to have a whole laundry room for a squat rack. I have a tiny 1 bed flat. There's no way I'm going to have the space for anything more than a foldable bench and plate dumbbells..
All you need is a set of dumbells 5-50 in 5 pound increments. 10 pound increments after that as you need. And a thick mat. Dumbell squats, crunches, shoulder press, dumbbell push ups, bent over rows, laying tricep extention, bicep curl.. From there base your equipment on your goals.. ab rocker, bench, cardio, jump rope, etc. Save your money people.. I workout with nothing more than a mat ànd dumbbells..
Coop, I’m glad you featured Sam’s gym on your channel. It goes to show that you can trick out any space and buy quality equipment at a budget. Good stuff.
Awesome. If you can travel to WV, you can see my climate controlled Amish Shed gym. This is great for people that have no home garage or very limited space. I started out in a bedroom with one set of adjustable dumbbells. I did floor presses, Romanian deadlifts, front squats, goblet squats, bent over rows, overhead press and shoulder/arm workouts with the dumbbells.
Great video. I like my powerblocks pro xps because I can grow bigger with them. I bought trugrit folding wall rack through the local vendor and got a great deal. I did an unboxing and installation on my channel because there wasn't one. I felt I had a responsibility to inform others. I'm a budget guy with the exception of "Buy Once, Cry Once". The wife has me selling equipment before I replace it with another on FB marketplace. Thanks for the video.
More of these types of videos please! I'm starting to build a home gym in a smallish space and seeing videos like these is a good inspiration on how I should have mine set up!
This is inspiring as hell seeing someone put together an amazing gym against all odds. Also interesting to see he went against your advice on the rowers which proves this is an actual story of someone's gym and not a product shill. Amazing video as always
Coop should have been like I'm about to pimp yo gym 🥳🥳. All top of the range equipment and check in a few months his progress and if he uses it more because of the fancy equipment
I love that he went with the Titan X3 wallmount. There aren't a ton of reviews on it, and frankly for around $300, tough to beat that value for uprights if you are just building a home gym to stay fit.
This is the type of video that I feel we all come here to watch. Real world home gyms and the experience they had with the equipment. For me a half rack with lat pull down, power block dumbbells and the best bench ever designed the iron master super bench pro. Not much I can’t replicate to get a fantastic workout at home and it takes up minimal space in the garage.
I love the new product reviews and the epic gym tours. I also really appreciate the average or budget gym tours because you can get a lot of good ideas going for things to add to your own gym. Great video and props to Sam for making it work \m/
Definitely would like more videos like this. Social media has screwed up standards across the board. From strength to budgets. It's nice to get content of realistic standards.
I am literally in the process of putting together a 10x10 home gym in my basement. This was inpiring. You can definitely put something together in this space. I loved it !
This is so dope. Love seeing people start fitness journey's and showing others how it's possible to start and build something in a relatively short period of time with limited space and budget.
Dude I love the style video! Seeing everything that you’ve put out about all the different equipment that’s available put into practice and applying to peoples different fitness goals, space, and budget is amazing
What a lifestyle transition for Sam! Kudos to Jason Khalipa to continuing to help him, and others, improve their health and fitness outlook. Keep up the fire! 🔥
Hey great video, guys! I love seeing reviews on higher quality gym equipment, but i was starting to feel like videos about getting creative with cheaper equipment in smaller spaces were lacking. This was cool to see! Thanks Sam for sharing your space!
I thought this was a perfect video. While we all love the big EPIC racks and the crazy Custom bars. We’ll never own them… or at least most people/viewers won’t. This is showing the compromises that people really make to still get it done at home.
I used to have those dumbbells. You can get them to 80lbs each of you buy thin 10lb 1” plates. Which were easy to find for me. I bought the starter set at Canadian tire (pre Covid) for $40 and $1/lb for add on plates at fitness depot. Some companies make longer handles too.
This is probably one of the best videos of the channel due to how to relatable this is to do many people. I had a small space before and this was very similar to what I had going on. This just kills any bs excuses. MORE LIKE THS!!
I specifically use a dumbbell that is very similar to the Amazon Basics ones, because you can load it up relatively heavy. For my Bench I need 60kg a dumbbell and you don't find that with other adjustable dumbbells.
You're the best dude. You've inspired me to build my home gym immediately upon moving into a house. Bought the My Rack from Force USA after reading an article you put together. I can't wait to keep put it together a continue building an EPIC home weight & Muay Thai gym.
I personally seek out small gym reviews because that's all the space some of us have to spare is a small area. As we increase in strength, acceptance and enjoyment of the lifting life we grow with our equipment and perhaps the area we're willing to sacrifice towards it. Please do more of these, thanks!
I do all of my dumbbell training either in a 4.5x10 foot space or a door frame (for strict reps) and am lucky enough to have a spare bedroom for a pull-up/dip station. Have a X-frame bike setup infront of my TV for cardio while I game or watch Netflix. Next purchase is a sissy squat. All for just over a $1000 Canadian. You really don't need a ton of money to build a setup that suits your needs. Looking forward to one day owning a nice cable machine in my basement!
My home gym fits in a 8'x6' area which is the platform, with a full rack, and a small 2'x3' spot for my Ironmaster dumbbell stand. I only use some additional floor space when I'm using the gym. When not in use it only takes up that floor space.
Yeah, always inspiring to see BIIIIG EXPENSTIVE garage gyms, but these realistic ones are the ones that helps us take the next step. Affordable, practical, and effective set up! Thank you! More of these videos pls!!
Great video! This is something I really enjoyed watching because it’s relatable to most of us; humble beginnings. Sam should see if he can put the washer and dryer in the bedroom. Looks like a fair trade off with the wall rack.
Mine is in my 8 be 7 bedroom and includes a power rack, hack squat, adjustable bench, cable machine, pivot squat, belt squat, bulldog pad, dip bars, jammer arms, slant boards, landmine press, 2 step boxes, weighted vest and lateral raise machine. Apart from the rack and cables it was all built out of scrap wood.
Awesome video and home gym! These small spaces are very relatable I think for a lot of folks and it is great to see what can be done with only 9 by 10 ft. Personally I wouldn't have bought the rower but a range of dumbbells and a cheap home trainer or something. Also a great addition might be a pulley behind the rack. Keep em coming!
Thanks Coop and Sam for sharing your thought process on creating your cool home gym space! While I can appreciate (and covet) some of the high-end equipment highlighted on GGR, this type of content is more relatable to me and my never-ending quest to optimize my tiny home gym space. More of this, please!
Love it! More realistic than most fancy home gym out there on youtube/instragram. Not everyone has money or space to deck out their gym. I think his gym can related to many of us out there.
I like these kind of videos. There’s so much variations in setups out there you have basically unlimited future content from basic prison gyms all the way to Gucci expensive
This was really cool to see. Helped give me ideas for the future. Started to consider the option of having a garage gym. Even floated the idea to my wife to see her thoughts.
I made my home gym with Oni $900 and I use less space.it consists of a 2.2 m barbell, fid bench with leg extension attachment(hamstring curls and rows also possible)a full power rack with plate storage and spotter arms.rsck can hold up to 400 kg.multi grip pull up arms and also a full cable system.i also have Olympic dumbbells to use with my Olympic played
Great video. I actually purchased the exact same rack (titan x3 wall mounted space saving - not folding) to put in my rec room. Supposed to arrive today. Thanks for the inspiration. I may try to upload the installation because there is very little content on yt about this specific rig.
I have a garage gym and I’m in the process of converting it into the coolest home gym ever. I’m in there easily 2hours a day. It’s my favorite space in my house.
Good content, I think this is more realistic to what most of us have to work with. I hav 125 square ft and similar stuff. Small amounts of high quality equipment allow for plenty of variety
Why does GGR only do power racks and tonal stuff??? I have the powertec lever gym in a very small bedroom, and it does EVERYTHING a power rack could ever dream of and cost me used way under $2k. And I have their leg Press, leg curl, bicep curl, peck fly, tricep push down accessories for their gym system. And has hi low cables, exercise band attachments. The lever gym can far more safely work out alone than with a power rack, and have safer form.
Moral of the story, Sam deserves a raise.

Loved this video! Awesome to see Sam's journey!
These are your best videos! When you go visit people's home gyms! Keep em coming.
You can totally load a spin lock up to 60-80# just add some 10s to your stash
You know who else used to train next to a washing machine? Pete Rubish. You are in good company Sam.
This is awesome. Great work Sam! Inspired me a bit on what I can do for a home gym!
Great gym. Very similar to mine, but I really need more weight plates for my barbell. Also I need flooring for my 8'x8' space.
He has more than most people. It definitely works. Nice job
Man! This is awesome! Great work Sam! I will be rethinking my home gym plan when I get home! Please do more like this!
This is the kind of home gym I could afford and make room for, I love that wall mounted rack! I would just substitute a treadmill for the row machine.
More compact gym videos, please!
This is exactly what I needed, coincidentally discovered this channel yesterday!
