On the top of my head this is a genuine rock opera about a man (played by James Labrie) who is in a coma after a car accident. All the other singers you see and hear are representing an emotion that goes on in his head like Love, Reason, Pride, Passion etcetera.
The theater equation is the live production of "The Human Equation" which is one of the Ayreon Metal / Rock Operas. i think this was when Arjen realised he could do these albums as live events even if they didn't tour but just did 2 or 3 shows. The Electric Castle and other tales is the second complete work to be done as a stage type show. Although it isn't as "theatrical" as this. you know some of the cast as James Labrie, Mike Mills and Anneke van Geirsbergen are all in this.
The Human Equation is the original album, and my favourite album of all time. When this concert version was announced, I had to book flights to Rotterdam pretty much immediately. So good, so very very good.
The tall, bald, bearded gentleman is named Eric Clayton. He's a phonemenal vocalist who has a band called Savior Machine and another called Eric Clayton and the Nine (y'all didn't ask, but I'm telling you anyway.)
This whole show was conceived and directed by Joost Van Den Broek, Arjen's longtime friend and collaborator who is also probably the most important figure in the Dutch metal scene. Joost has produced every Dutch metal band you can think of. And, like Arjen, he just seems like a very nice guy, as well as being a musical genius.

I like daydreaming I'm with them sometimes ^^ I like to picture myself as Fish in "Isis & Osiris", especially at the moment of "can you see the stars ? can you recognize the constellations ?", which emphases Ed's drumming and followed by a guitar with a "Simple Minds feel"...So trippy
I have this DVD called 'The Theater Equation'. Floor Jansen's sister Irene plays the emotion 'Passion' and James LaBrie is the central character. The emotion 'Love' is played by Heather Findlay who was in the very underated UK prog folk band 'Mostly Autumn' at the time. Check out their track 'The Night Sky' for some Pink Floyd guitar sounds.
Nice one, this is one my favorites from The Human Equation, although I miss Mike's parts in here. But the whole show is great and I'm not sure if you recognized them but there were a bunch of singers here that you have seen like Anneke and James Labrie
