Try this from the same Live Show: Isis and Osiris, Valley of Queens, The Castle Hall, The Mirror Maze, in fact, play the whole DVD, one highlight after the other...
Damians voice just gives me full body goosebumps in this song. His full power high notes at the end are insane. I believe its just a half step lower than Floors floorgasm note in GLS. I mean, look at him, who would ever think that could come out of him? You know you did well when the crowd chants your name after you sing (they were saying Damian not Ayreon), and he was filling in for the original singer, its not even his song!
... and if this YT-compressed video version gives you goose bumps, you gotta hear it on the DVD or CD. UN-real. It is so revealing to watch people's faces on those last 12 lines or so. Some go slack-jawed. Some Smile as their inner joy bubbles out. Others are wrapt in the emotion of the story, trapped in a machine that exposes you to your own guilt and amplifies it, more and more. I think I saw some of each hear on your video. You get it.
in case you guys did not know arjens "The Human Equation" whas preformt as a musical in dutch theaters under the name "AYREON - The Theater Equation" you can find it here on youtube. ;)
A Little background on Damian. He was supposedly offered the lead in Iron Maiden to replace Bruce Dickinson when he left in the 90s, but turned it down. He was asked to audition by the band, that much is certain. He was fairly young then, so maybe thats why he decided against it. His voice since then has filled out a lot, its richer and a little darker, but I could see him doing it. He does in fact perform with Maiden United sometimes, a tribute act. his solo shows are so good, guitar based, intimate settings and his songs are really great.
I always heard that he was offered the Maiden gig and was all set to do it. But at the last minute Steve Harris chose Blaze Bailey because Blaze kind of looked like Bruce, and he wanted to stick it to Bruce. Legendary metal writer Martin Popoff said that he was having drinks with Dave, Nicko and Janick the night before the announcement. He had already spent the day with Steve, and he told them that Steve had said that Blaze was the guy. They all laughed.
You know, Joost Van Den Broek is a Prog keyboardist. It is a law that prog keyboardists have no less than seven keyboards in their rig (See Rick Wakeman of YES for details) . xD
The cd Guilt Machine is so powerful, this song is from that. It's written when Arjen was very depressed and you can hear that so well in this song. Jasper sang fantastically on the CD, it's a shame he couldn't sing it live here but his replacement did a very good job!
didnt think I was ever gonna comment but dude, I appear missing by qotsa, live at rock en seine ... its just fire. cant even imagine a better live :E you should react!
yes, we WERE all slack-jawed in the crowd ... one of the best days of my life. What a performance. :D
Love Travis commenting 'put him in a musical'...Damian played the lead in Les Miserables for quite some time, he's amazing!
Yep, he was Jean Valjean on the West End.
Can't get any better! Damian Wilson!!!
Shivers run down my spine and i feel tears coming. So so good! Damian is magnificent as usual. Arjen is a musical giant.
God, I love music.
Thanks for a great reaction.😊

Better see the whole epic concert.
“Put him in a musical” you said, well Damian sang the lead role of Valjean in a touring production of Les Miserables in the U.K.

Joost is proof you can never have too many keyboards.
Cosmic Fusion Ayreon Electric Castle and Other Tales Live. Travis won't stop smiling.
He's still a LUL though :)
LOL This is part of the Electric Castle which was indeed a musical as you requested

Love your comments and i think you will like Star One - Lost Children of the Universe as well also a brilliant one out of the hat from Arjen Lucassen.
Damien Wilson sang with Threshold
Fantastic. Damian is awesome
they call the name of the singer Dimian (Wilson) not Ayreon

05:03 grinnik...the roadie had it easy because it was only 4 concerts in 1 weekend in one and the same hall in Tilburg
I heard they needed four concert nights in sequence to play the whole programme.. Lucky ones who were there...
Maybe that is the reason they never play outside of the Netherlands ... too many keyboards to take elsewhere :P
Please try Threshold, Damien's first band. Try Mother Earth. Threshold has great albums.
Agreed!
Threshold is a major hidden gem
put him in a musical? I think he is a musical performer
Star one reactions pls
