When Tigris says he looks just like his father is was said in disappointment because earlier in the movie she mentions how he’s not like his father, because he still has goodness in his eyes. When Tigris said that he looked ‘just’ like his father, she meant the goodness he had in him is now gone. For me it was one of the best lines in the movie, Because it solidified the fact that he had chose evil over good.

14:53 Rachel didn't actually say it, in an interview the presenter said the phrase because it was becoming very popular and Rachel loved that point of view. uwu

Awesome review! Thank you for calling out Francis Lawrence on his disgusting support of the genocide. You’d think that someone who directed the Hunger Games would know better. What irony. We are definitely the capitol and privileged. And need to rise up for justice

Edit: Nevermind, Gaza stuff. I guess some people can’t understand that no matter what, IDF or Hamas, both are bad. It’s, a shame.

Centrist take that literallt ignores the fact that hamas is emerges from intense suffering caused by the IDF. Both are morally reprehensible but they do not bear equal responsibility @randomchannel4852

I’m, not sure if you’re aware but, using Palestinian civilians as meat shields, killing Israeli civilians, blocking foreign aid, and firing rockets blindly at Israel isn’t going to stop the IDF, no, it’s going to make it even worse.
Hamas, did form out of a corner though. The IDF is entirely responsible for this. However, Hamas in turn, is now a group that wants its own genocide of the people in Israel. Same as the IDF, but different sides.
So, am I wrong in pointing out how war isn’t black and white, instead a grey area where both of these two sides fighting to “protect” their people are not good? No, I don’t think so.

@@randomchannel4852first of all, like in the film propaganda has changed and swayed the truth and public perception. This isn’t a “war” both sides aren’t “fighting to protect people” calling it a war is quite stupid , this is a genocide.

Maybe that's why good ol' Corio there, is a lot more sympathetic and smart in the movie than he he's in the book. Because the film maker thinks that deep down he was justified in his heartlessness

Lol, I always feel like Peter Dinklage is having the time of his life in most of his roles, if not all of them (with the exception of the last few seasons of Game of Thrones, of course :D)- not only this one :D This man is a legend and just knocks every thing right out of the park

so happy to here that :) if the story interests you then I can't reccomend the book enough- sadly, much of Coryo's moral complexity is lost onscreen as Tom Blythe is Very Pretty and thereby distracting, but Snow's a very think-don't-say guy but I really liked the movie. (Tigress my beloved.)
I'm really happy I found your video essay covering a topic that I'm passionate about in such a digestable way :D. I cant wait to see whatever else ur gonna cover next - and also please continue to include relevant info like Francis Lawrence's hypocrisy in ur later videos! It was super helpfu!!! What does the phrase panem et circenses mean?
: bread and circuses : sustenance and entertainment provided by government to appease public discontent.
Welcome to the Hunger Games and may the odds be ever in your favor. We live in a mirror world to Panem.

Ahhh!! Thank you for another amazing video!! I highly recommend reading (or at least listening to the audiobook) the book to do a comparison between the movie and book. It’s clear from Coryo’s monologues that he is twisted and selfish from the beginning and it’s not like he has a chance to become better; he purposefully chooses to be a horrible human.
And also, I have not seen the film because of Francis Lawrence’s support of Israel. And I saw a video on my RUclips home page which was I think Francis breaking down a scene from TBOSAS… and I was so confused because how does this man think he can breakdown the horrors of this story when he himself supports it? The self-awareness isn’t there :( it is so sad how people can engage with this series and not acknowledge the genocide of the Palestinians. As well as other humanitarian crises that are happening…
Thank you for this breakdown and for your humor - I can’t wait for more 💗

omgg thank you so much! I'm so happy you enjoyed! I do plan on reading the book eventually yes - i think there's a lot more to Coryo for me to pick apart there lmaoo. As for Mr. Lawrence, self-awareness is unfortunately something that must be learned, and he obvs hasn't taken the time to do it 🙃 there are so many clear parallels to the hunger games themes and current world events (i.e. Gaza, Congo, etc) that it's honestly disheartening to see fans/people embrace it in fiction but not address it in reality 💀

31:27 LMAO there's more context to that in the books. in the zoo scene, one of the children ask lucy about the snake (the one in the reaping) and lucy said "they calm when I sing" or something along those lines. which is why it was a lot less stupid sounding in the books when coryo said "it must be the singing" but it's still stupid nonetheless and dr gaul was obv like : 0 "u think am dumb"

Enjoyed the video and how it lays out how, as prequels go, "Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes" is showing us how you really can make excellent ones: just please show us something we didn't know to contextualize the original.
Not sure the latter political comparison fully tracks though, it kinda simplifies things. A lot of terrible things have happened in the past, but not everything can be broken down into the global north taking advantage of the global south. Some nations like the Congo were decimated with responsibility to be absolutely be laid at people like Belgium's Leopold III. But other countries like India have been able to become nations with more collective power than many in the north -- it can be overcome. So does that mean a nation like, say, Sweden bears some responsibility for what happened in India? Or does Australia bear responsibility for what's happened in Haiti? America might bear the weight of dropping the bomb on Japan, but is it culpable for what Japan itself did in Nanking? Again, not always so clear cut.
As for current events abroad, it's not clear that taxpayer money directly affects either side. It's more private donations from citizens in the global north supporting both parties (though one certainly has an advantage) that contribute the most to what's going on.

    • @soocheeroll
      @soocheeroll  8 месяцев назад +4

thanks for watching! happy you enjoyed. yes i did simplify some things for the political aspect - otherwise the video would've been 2 hrs long and no one wants that lmao - but i believe the gist still stands. my point on the tax dollars sustaining things like gen*cide was more on the fact that isr*el has requested billions of dollars from the U.S. to fund their war in which civilians & kids are disproportionately being killed - all of which is, of course, taxpayer money. As for what's happening in the Congo, much of the war and violence is being fueled by investment backing from western companies, if not from the governments outright - this has been covered by most major news agencies, so yes, in this case too unfortunately it's the global north taking advantage of the global south 🙃

heyyyyy not to be rude i loved your review, but the title is misleading. i was awaiting real life inspirations, parallelisms, real world symbolism. you could talk about the myth of Pocahontas and the white man, districts compared to IRL colonies and slavery, etc etc. without even talking about the evident fascism, capitalism and dictatorship sides

also remember how in the 19th century European countries used to put slaves in actual zoo cages and shit ?? 😂😂😂😂 lol. anyway, yeah they do that in the movie

hey! thanks for watching, and for the feedback. the focus of this video was meant to be a film review & analysis, but i also wanted to tie in some real-world events that are currently happening (not necessarily the historical tie-ins) and the fact that the director wasn't seeing the irony in supporting said current events lol. you make some good points tho, and all of that would definitely need a whole separate video 😂
