Every time I play at locals, I use Black Legion, and I always get paired up against Guard, and it’s always Cadians. And right before turn 1, They jab with “Abaddon brought his arms.” I jab back, “Yet the Cadians are missing their planet.”

Jake Lensky True but the issue was never his ability in universe. The issue with abadon was always with the meta. The story writing, its hard to make an enemy actually scary when they’ve been “the enemy” for a couple decades of GW trying to keep the status quo. I enjoy that the story is actually moving forward. Abadon could never be too big a threat for it to not make sense why he doesn’t dominate but not small enough a threat to make chaos a joke. The middle ground has its own failings in terms of story writing, also chaos is damn near impossible to actually make interesting unless you put some serious legwork. Necrons have mystery on their side, tyrannids are the most alien aliens, Tau are weeb space commies. All have interesting things going on but in my opinion chaos has kinda just been kept simplistic

Thank you Sir Baldermort for finally giving Abaddon the credit I think he has deserved. People want to overlook or bad mouth him due to him being an evil character or that he just rode Horus's coatails He isn't the kind of villain that will team up with the Imperium like you see in movies and comics. He is unabashedly and unapologetically evil and he relishes it. I think people want to see some kind of redeeming qualities or a moral code in their bad guys. And he is not that. Except each of his crusades has had a specific objective. Each objective was fulfilled. Cadia fell.. the pylons were destroyed. Abaddon is far from armless.your post is overly simplistic.

Also, the "purpose" were tact on after the event of each crusade to make abandon seem like he accomplished SOMETHING so he could be considered a threat. It's not really good writing, nor is anything from the "gathering storm", those are pretty trash. Cadia's fall gets such a small bit. I can't help but think GW is directly cheating and ret-conning because they know Abaddon is a bit of a joke without it. But my post was more joking then not, and you need to not take things so seriously. Pretty obvious by the language I was joking. Failbaddon the armless will never lose his nickname, his reputation soiled by bad writing, and the unwillingness to let chaos actually win because death of the imperium = less sales = less income. I can't blame the character as much as I can his handling. And them retconning and cheating for him, doesn't at all make the situation better. He needs GOOD writing, not more crap writing.

He has become that guy at the D&D table who has to have his character sheet checked by the DM because things keep showing up on it. Kind of similar to Cawl. Perhaps it is the other way around. He is the DMPC who has to win no matter the outcome. His rolls are made behind the screen and they always come out to their benefit.

Also, fun tidbits. -The outline to many of the 13 (2, 3, 4, 6, 10, 11, 12) were published back in 2003 in Liber Chaotica - Khorne, and haven't changed much. They were fleshed out in 2013 with the Index Chaos series. -Black Crusades are a term (likely) given by Imperials to describe any mass of Chaos forces in real space, as the most any other forays are small scale raids or sudden overwhelming assaults on isolated worlds. -Black Crusades are not exclusive to Abaddon, and others have spearheaded them, usually in the aims of achieving Apotheosis.
You rightly mentioned his sword, and never has weapon had a more fearsome origin then being the manifestation of the only demon, that even the Emperor could not kill! Chaos special Emperor killing super demon bound to humanity, who's name means "Death of Empires"!! I would also mention the Talon of Horus. That is a monster of a lightningclaw! It broke worldbreaker ( Horus's Emperor gives warmace) and Horus used it to kill Sanguinius, mortally wound the Emperor and Abbadon killed fucking Sigismund with it! It is still imprinted with Sanguinius's blood, and it drives Blood Angels straight into the Black Rage by it's mere present! It also cut straight through The Gauntlets of Ultrama wielded by Manius Calgar. So yes, Abbadon is gloriously, ludicrously well armed!!

I see Abaddon as the biggest puppet of Chaos. For he may display will and not take side out of the pantheon, but this I see it as an illusion. A facade. For he needs the demons in his army. He need his sword. He needs the warp to succeed. And yet he claims that he's not a slave to the dark gods. He's lying to himself. He blames Horus for failing, because he was weak. Like father like son. And when the time comes and he faces his final challenge will he repeat the story? Only time will tell.
Good point, however the sword is independent from chaos, it’s a daemon of its own godlike power and rivals that of the four. The emperor of mankind could not defeat him in the webway, and despite being imprisoned in a sword, it’s still an independent entity.
Well the whole idea about taking Cadia was that it would allow the capture the stable warp route into the imperium. What Abaddon did is the equivalent of droping a nuke on a pillbox that stopping you from taking a city. Yes you destroyed the Pillbox but you just nuked the city you were trying to take.

I used to collect a bit when I was a kid back in the early nineties, I was mostly into painting and building Eldar. Now, at 37, a friend has decided to start building a space marine army, I got jealous, and now have a box of chaos marines and a bunch of paints on the way. The Black Legion are the coolest looking Chaos Marines in my opinion I like drawing the black armour with the golden trim and the bright red eye of Horus on the shoulder pad.
I mean Abbadon would be impressive if it weren't for the Traitor Primarchs who did the arc better. I mean Perturabo has resisted Chaos longer and is far more skilled in both tactics and battle. He survived both Angron and Fulgrim ( the latter who killed Ferrus Manus), not to mention his brothers who have gone beyond what they were capable of as normal Primarchs. Just saying.
I've always thought little of the black legion and "Failbaddon", not because of any intrinsic weakness but because they were always so generic; "Me bad, kill children steal rape plunder rawwwh". Oh yes very original. But now? Hearing about them from someone who understands the setting has totally changed my mindset, and Abaddon? Old Top-Knot is fast becoming my favourite character in Warhammer besides Guilliman. Bravo Mr B, you done gone and converted me. We Are Returned!
I've been marathoning your videos when I can(essential worker so free time has been limited to say the least) personal favourite of mine is your Word Bearers video but if there was one critique I had not about the content but just some references for the art and music especially would be greatly appreciated.

I play black legion but I have a splinter war band that hates abbadon since he hasn't been able to actually take down the imperium and are trying to find a way to depose him and finally get it done

I got to play in that world wide campaign you mentioned. At least at the Chicago Con, it was pretty clear that the outcome had already been determined. The ref's were setting people up in some of the most lopsided fights I've ever seen. Like guardsmen facing off against a defiler...A razorback against a landraider...scouts against plague marines. When I got my own turn they gave me a min sized unit of GK justicars and dropped me in the middle of a small triangle of 2 full sized units of bloodletters and a bloodthirster, then laughed when I got wiped out in one assault phase. From what I saw, they were doing it to all the imperial players.

Except each of his crusades has had a specific objective. Each objective was fulfilled. Cadia fell.. the pylons were destroyed. Abaddon is far from armless.your post is overly simplistic.

Also, the "purpose" were tact on after the event of each crusade to make abandon seem like he accomplished SOMETHING so he could be considered a threat. It's not really good writing, nor is anything from the "gathering storm", those are pretty trash. Cadia's fall gets such a small bit. I can't help but think GW is directly cheating and ret-conning because they know Abaddon is a bit of a joke without it. But my post was more joking then not, and you need to not take things so seriously. Pretty obvious by the language I was joking. Failbaddon the armless will never lose his nickname, his reputation soiled by bad writing, and the unwillingness to let chaos actually win because death of the imperium = less sales = less income. I can't blame the character as much as I can his handling. And them retconning and cheating for him, doesn't at all make the situation better. He needs GOOD writing, not more crap writing.
@@NeiasaurusCreations They made him more of a joke by making his successes obvious writer fiat. He has become that guy at the D&D table who has to have his character sheet checked by the DM because things keep showing up on it. Kind of similar to Cawl. Perhaps it is the other way around. He is the DMPC who has to win no matter the outcome. His rolls are made behind the screen and they always come out to their benefit.
These Audio Dramas Introductions really helped my non-40k buddies get into the setting, and set the tone of the following parts.

I'd like to say, great job as usual, I appreciate you presenting the lore in a serious manner, it's honestly a blast. I'm glad you underlined the last part, it's a piece of 40k continuity a lot of people like to dismiss completely (funny how some fans are open to those kinds of retcons).
Also, fun tidbits.
-The outline to many of the 13 (2, 3, 4, 6, 10, 11, 12) were published back in 2003 in Liber Chaotica - Khorne, and haven't changed much. They were fleshed out in 2013 with the Index Chaos series.
-Black Crusades are a term (likely) given by Imperials to describe any mass of Chaos forces in real space, as the most any other forays are small scale raids or sudden overwhelming assaults on isolated worlds.
-Black Crusades are not exclusive to Abaddon, and others have spearheaded them, usually in the aims of achieving Apotheosis.
You rightly mentioned his sword, and never has weapon had a more fearsome origin then being the manifestation of the only demon, that even the Emperor could not kill! Chaos special Emperor killing super demon bound to humanity, who's name means "Death of Empires"!!
I would also mention the Talon of Horus. That is a monster of a lightningclaw! It broke worldbreaker ( Horus's Emperor gives warmace) and Horus used it to kill Sanguinius, mortally wound the Emperor and Abbadon killed fucking Sigismund with it! It is still imprinted with Sanguinius's blood, and it drives Blood Angels straight into the Black Rage by it's mere present! It also cut straight through The Gauntlets of Ultrama wielded by Manius Calgar.
So yes, Abbadon is gloriously, ludicrously well armed!!

ADB's Night Lords trilogy is by far my favorite 40k series so far. I recommend his novella "Lord of Crows" as well, it's about Zso Sahal and the night lords during the heresy.

I see Abaddon as the biggest puppet of Chaos. For he may display will and not take side out of the pantheon, but this I see it as an illusion. A facade. For he needs the demons in his army. He need his sword. He needs the warp to succeed. And yet he claims that he's not a slave to the dark gods. He's lying to himself. He blames Horus for failing, because he was weak. Like father like son. And when the time comes and he faces his final challenge will he repeat the story? Only time will tell.
Good point, however the sword is independent from chaos, it’s a daemon of its own godlike power and rivals that of the four. The emperor of mankind could not defeat him in the webway, and despite being imprisoned in a sword, it’s still an independent entity.

Well the whole idea about taking Cadia was that it would allow the capture the stable warp route into the imperium. What Abaddon did is the equivalent of droping a nuke on a pillbox that stopping you from taking a city. Yes you destroyed the Pillbox but you just nuked the city you were trying to take.

He has referred it countless times. If he becomes a prince he losses all autonomy. I’ll do a vid on them to explain. :)
I used to collect a bit when I was a kid back in the early nineties, I was mostly into painting and building Eldar.
Now, at 37, a friend has decided to start building a space marine army, I got jealous, and now have a box of chaos marines and a bunch of paints on the way.
This is perfect for teaching me about the lore and getting me in the mood, can't wait to binge your videos with headphones on while I'm building and painting later this week!

The Black Legion are the coolest looking Chaos Marines in my opinion I like drawing the black armour with the golden trim and the bright red eye of Horus on the shoulder pad.
I mean Abbadon would be impressive if it weren't for the Traitor Primarchs who did the arc better. I mean Perturabo has resisted Chaos longer and is far more skilled in both tactics and battle. He survived both Angron and Fulgrim ( the latter who killed Ferrus Manus), not to mention his brothers who have gone beyond what they were capable of as normal Primarchs. Just saying.

I've always thought little of the black legion and "Failbaddon", not because of any intrinsic weakness but because they were always so generic; "Me bad, kill children steal rape plunder rawwwh". Oh yes very original. But now? Hearing about them from someone who understands the setting has totally changed my mindset, and Abaddon? Old Top-Knot is fast becoming my favourite character in Warhammer besides Guilliman. Bravo Mr B, you done gone and converted me. We Are Returned!

To those who claim that Abaddon failed because he couldn't take Terra on his first crusade. Excerpt from the Black Legion - testimony of Iskandar Khayon, third of the Ezekarion, to the Inquisitor Siroca:

I play black legion but I have a splinter war band that hates abbadon since he hasn't been able to actually take down the imperium and are trying to find a way to depose him and finally get it done

I got to play in that world wide campaign you mentioned. At least at the Chicago Con, it was pretty clear that the outcome had already been determined. The ref's were setting people up in some of the most lopsided fights I've ever seen. Like guardsmen facing off against a defiler...A razorback against a landraider...scouts against plague marines. When I got my own turn they gave me a min sized unit of GK justicars and dropped me in the middle of a small triangle of 2 full sized units of bloodletters and a bloodthirster, then laughed when I got wiped out in one assault phase. From what I saw, they were doing it to all the imperial players.
