Ibs d started when I was 9 yrs old. 40 yrs later it is still evolving. I no longer thinking of it as I cannot eat so many things. I'm always looking for new recipes to create with things that I know are ibs safe. It is a tough journey. Thank you for sharing your story. The more that we talk about our issue the better informed those who do not suffer from it will understand.

Thanks Becky for your honesty. Also thanks to all those below who have posted comments. It's great to know I am not the only one with these same struggles.
I also had an eating disorder, which probably made my IBS worse-and it certainly makes the process of identifying problem foods hard as I have tended to not eat a trigger food again which limits the amount of okay foods. I am trying to test foods again in very small portions and not give up if I do experience any IBS symptoms because it may well have other causes.
It is very disheartening at times trying to identify the problem foods as well as finding interesting ways to prepare what is okay to eat.
Thanks Becky and others below for helping me see that I am not alone.

I so greatly appreciate your video because they show me that I know that I am not alone. I suffered from my IBS so badly then I found out that I had SIBO which was inflamming my IBS cut out processed sugar, cruciferous vegetables, dairy, and grains and it really really helped. I still struggle but I can totally sympathize with the whole list of foods you can't eat is longer than the ones you can. Thanks for putting your story out there because intestinal issues can be so embarrassing and you can feel so isolated and nobody understands.

@@AA-hj8er No, I did not. I was born with a slow digestive system and my mother did not do anything about it so by the time I was able to do things and get professional help for myself I had over 20 years of damage so it is going to take a very long time to try to heal it if I can. I'm still trying my best to follow what I said in my comment and get regular bowel massages but I still have bad periods. It is really discouraging.

I have suffered for years with IBS-C. I learned at 40 that I was lactose intolerant but continued to suffer. At 48 we moved to another state. My new dr suggested cutting out gluten which has helped. She also suggested low fodmap which I tried but found very challenging. I began listening to a friend who is involved in essential oils and tried something called DigestZen from doterra. I have been taking it twice a day since January. My stomach has been wonderful ever since. I told my dr about it and she was thrilled as she also sells it. It is all natural. While I’ve still had a stomachache or two the severity has been GREATLY REDUCED

The mental, emotional side is very tough for sure. It is something which I have struggled with especially in the last year. The worst part is going out Nd trying to locate some5ing to eat. I am similar to you with the list of foods which react unfavourably with me seemingly to be ever growing. I have found limiting the nightshades group of fruit and vegetables does help with tolerating foods you might be sensitive to.

All my life I have been getting these debilitating stomach cramps but when I was younger, they used to only happen occasionally so I could kinda just almost be a functional person. But as I got older they got more frequent and worse in pain to the point where I would go completely white/slightly green and almost lose consciousness but they would never be able to figure out what was wrong. Then one day on a particularly bad flare up, I was in high school at the time, I went to the nurse's room and they thought I had appendicitis. They rushed me off to the hospital, and into surgery only to find that my appendix was fine, and they didn't even end up removing it. But if I had to pinpoint when my symptoms started really going downhill, it would have to be then. So for the next two years, I would go on to have laparoscopies, gastroscopies, barium transit testing, MRIs, ultrasounds, countless blood tests, go on 5 different heartburn medications, 6 different laxatives, see two gastroenterologists, 3 gps, move countries for university, try the lowfodmap diet probably 4 times to no avail, get hit by a car, subsequently get chronic migranes so more meds, see two neurologists, be told I probably have PCOS, find out that I have an irregular heartbeat which causes me to feel faint randomly, spontaneously have tingling and numbness in my extremities that they can't pinpoint, be prescribed anti-depressants, cry a lot, be finally told that I probably have IBS but they don't really know what to do about it other than continue to give me meds that don't seem to actually work, all the while living alone for the first time and trying to manage university as well. It has been a very rough year to say the least and I have been in the darkest of places but I've been following your youtube videos since I've been here and its made me feel at least a little bit less alone so thank you.

I am currently 14 almost 15. As a child I was overweight, but I didn’t have the worst eating habits, I didn’t take any medications, and I never got much shots. For the most part I was healthy. Once I started middle school I lost weight like crazy. Losing this weight was addicting and pleasing. In seventh grade I then got my period. I had crazy heavy periods for 16 days! But my weight was hitting for the first time a low (still healthy) BMI and I now attribute that to my period. Although during those years I did pick up some unhealthy habits like taking 5 painkillers during my period without eating anything before hand. After dealing with my crazy unbearable period, this year, freshman year, I begin taking the pill. My period went from 16 days to 3, but I began to notice I was terribly fatigued and it felt my digestive system was so much slower than it’s ever been and I felt my self begin to put on weight for the first time since I was 11. (This was on a Whole Foods vegan diet as well) and it only got worse. Around the holiday season it started to get really bad. By January I was experiencing Crohn’s disease and ulcer like symptoms and looked pale and almost yellow. on Valentine’s Day I went to the ER. The doctors ran blood tests, and ultrasounds, and the only think I was positive for was anemia, so they concluded I had IBS. So i changed my diet, did acupuncture, yoga and everything they say to try and heal IBS naturally, but it wasn’t helping much. Eventually I connected the pill to my gut and everything made sense. The pill was making me sick. I am now off the pill and am hoping my body can recover from it.

Your story is so inspiring, thank you for sharing. I've had IBS when I was 13 for five years, then it was in remission from age 18 to 21, and ever since it's been getting worse and worse (i'm 23 now). The last couple of months have been HELL, I was almost hospitalized a few times, but I changed my gastroenterologist and this one has been doing a great work and I'm so much better now, even though you never know when it's going to come back again. But honestly your videos are so great for me. Bc other people just don't understand how frustrating and exhausting it is. Idk you seem so nice and approachable I kinda wanna vent to you lol.

I just had a terrible test because of this I didn't focus or anything and I told the teacher I needed to go to the bathroom he said no so I had an argument with him and he let me go which was extremely embarrassing . I did not focus at all and wrote whatever my anxiety was over the roof . At the end the teacher told me I had a phobia of the exam . But honestly it was just about my anxiety and my stomach, it wasn't about the exam .it was terrible.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. I am suspected to have IBS-D but I am still going through some testing to determine that it is only IBS and not anything more. I have a HIDA scan next week. I went into ER last night with problems to be told it was probably JUST IBS by the check-in nurse after waiting three hours and not being seen yet I just left. It seems most people in the healthcare field aren't even aware of how severe it can be. This isn't just IBS, this is my life, and it's affecting the way I live and how I feel every day. I have a terrible relationship with food right now and I've lost weight from it and from stomach pains that i get. I'm working on it, but it's becoming a daily struggle! 💙🌸

It's just awful. Ive had this since I was 6 years old. I have been in and out of hospitals more times than I can count with suspected this that or another. I finally had my appendix when I was 23 and everything settled down. I started having issues again in my 30s but this time I was able to manage the symptoms and not get medical help. I realised keeping really calm, staying very flat I could relax enough for the cramping to become manageable. I'm now 47 and I am in the middle of probably another round of tests telling me nothing. I am having terrible pain and terrible toilet issues and it feels really different. I have lost a few stone and I haven't had this happen before. I do think it's IBS again it's just decided to change up the game. But as god awful as it is what would really really help is if the medical world could understand just how debilitating it is. It's not 'just' IBS . There has to be a reason for the symptoms and I am trying to find out what that is. After all this time I am determined to get to the bottom of why so many people are having their lives ruined by this chronic condition. Because living like this isn't normal.

One issue that I've actually had is the complete inability to lose weight. I have not moved up or down on the scale in 5 years. I average 1,700 calories a day when I tracked it, and walk about 6,000 steps most days. I read that people with dysbiosis (gut imbalance) are basically SOL. I do all the things they suggest, and still nothing. I don't have thyroid or PCOS issues either. I am a bit overweight, and it's very hard to have people think I stuff my face all day, but they don't understand that we are different. I hope all of us can share what has worked and not worked for us in hopes maybe some food combination or supplement will come out to actually help. 💜

That was a remarkable talk you gave there. I am sure that many of us can relate to you and you are so right stressing that everybody is different. Doctiors IMO are still too eager to force their patients into the diagnosic pattern they have learnt about. I think my IBS may have come from excessive bread eating down the years then when I started drinking beer in large quantities, the accrued cereal intake was too much for my body to cope with! So far as being sad is concerned. >Yup, nearly everyone with IBS is going to have their IBS gettingthem down from time to time. I try to keep the blues at a minimum, one thing is not give up, always be hopeful, secondly not to become too narcisstic at least not take oneself too seriously (on the lines, "all that matters is my misery and everyone else should listen to me all the time") and thirdly I think sometimes it is a mistake to think of oneself "fighting" a disease. Perhaps it is better to think about "living with" a disease. I view my own IBS-D as a not very sociable lodger in my house, who may leave one day. Yes, hopefully the lodger will leave but until then I haveto live with him/her as best I can. I avoid provoking my lodger and I am highly appreciatoive when my lodger is nice with me. At the same time I am quite frm that I expect my lodger will behave better inthe future. Does that make any sense?

My IBS developed as a result of a C Difficile infection, which is a painful stomach flu-like bacterial infection in the colon. I kept having unexplained symptoms (they did tons of tests and scans) after I came up negative for it, for months. Finally after 6 months a gastroenterologist suggested I go on the Fodmap diet.
I did and over the last few months it has alleviated a lot of the same GI issues you have. Unfortunately the pain has grown and prevents me from moving too much, as that makes it even worse. It’s being chalked up to nerve pain, which makes sense, but it is very, very frustrating. It’s an explanation and not an explanation all at the same time.
I appreciate you putting yourself out there about IBS. Tons and tons of people have GI issues and related pain but it still feels taboo to talk about it. So *highfive* fellow IBS-C haver! You’re doing something great here.

Miss Emilia Sophie sorry I just saw words Crohn’s and though I’d comment! IBs shouldn’t really be diagnosed until you’ve looked into the colon as could be anything; if you’re in that much pain I’d keep pushing personally

Hi! I would appreciate if you can tell me.. I suffer from gas and bloating for a year now.. but it started for me in the upper stomach mostly, gas is trapped way up causing great discomfort... and through time it got to the entire belly, but always some discomfort in the upper stomach as well, and trapped gas..now after i eat i bloat and look like a balloon who is about to explode.. are you familiar with this issue? now i bloat 24/7, but i don't feel doing endoscopy will help to solve it, because it related to ulcers, burning etc.. I don't suffer from constipation/diarrhea.. i did almost all lab tests,( stool, urine,Sibo) my gut flora diversity was 8/10 , Is it a form of IBS in your experience? did you manage to cure yourself? appreciate your answer! Thanks.

I have been to the doctors and they made me do a stool test and currently waiting for results can they detect ibs from these tests?
Ps I love how I can relate to your videos least I'm not alone in this 😢

I started having symptoms of IBS at 16 after suffering from anorexia for only a year :( I’m 22 now and still suffer from blood and mucus in the toilet (sorry TMI) I didn’t tell a doctor about my symptoms until 20 (because of pure embarrassment) but she wasn’t much help she never checked me or gave me tests. She just said “you have IBS”

@@randommanatics7485 Those are exactly my symptoms. I found that probiotics somewhat help. Try taking 1 probiotic supplement and then drink an Activia probiotic daily yogurt every day. It won’t 100% cure you of your symptoms but it will kinda help. When I was younger and first realized something was wrong, I would have to run home from the school bus and go to the bathroom ASAP and sometimes I wouldn’t even make it but shit wouldn’t come out, it would just be mucus (gross I know). That doesn’t really happen anymore it’s almost as if my body learned how to control it over time. Also, the blood will probably go away or lessen. I haven’t noticed anymore blood since I started probiotics.

Ive been eliminating 90% of foods since jan 4. You sound so much like me, but i am 66! I haven’t been binging or starving, just so afraid to eat so many foods, even if i see them listed on the fodmap lists. I see sooo many conflicting information . I am still afraid of most vegetables, although i was a vegetarian for 30+ years. I had to stop because i had to much bathroom issues the older i was getting and it was harder to recover. So i am learning from you and feeling like i am not alone.. thank you. I still eat sweets but not too many each day.

Im lying here under a blanket suffering from being glutened by CC 😫 I follow you on IG on my celiac page and can relate to alot of what your saying- i've been diagnosed with celiac disease recently but theres so many other foods( veg ) that go for me and i cant eat them, im still not sure of the full list and although ive not spoke to a dr or been diagnosed with it I believe i have/had an eating disorder as I would binge eat foods, generally sweet foods and just keep eating them even although i wasnt even enjoying them because they used to make me feel better so in my head i was like if i keep stuffing my face with this i'll feel better. (I havnt done it as much since diagnosis because id need to take out a mortgage to afford to binge on GF unhealthy food) The mental side of it is bad too I have depression and it all feeds into each other really- whenever I get glutened i feel depressed cause im in pain. Anyway i just wanted to share my story because you shared yours and its nice to know your not alone in this crazy food intolerance world that not even the doctors fully understand.

Look into fodmap stacking or cumulative effect. Its exsctly what ur descrubing. One day u can eat it and next day u cant because it all adds up. Hopenit helps.
Im obr my bs ibs. Its akways worst after crohns flare and am debating whether yo just do ensure pkus for a day ir so. Prob is im over super strict diets for 2 years since crohns flare. Im ober it all. And my ibs is worst case gastro has seen. Grrrrrrrrrr. Even 1 tbl spn of safe fodmap food sends me iver the edge. I also watch fat n sugar content and havent had coffee in 18 months. I went from low residue diet for crohns flare to exclusive enteral nutrition for 9 weeks with ensute okus only at ecery mal and now I steuggle extremely with everything. So frustraying, angry n pissed off at times. Try so hard n get nowhere fast.
I want a stainkess steel digestive system. And , y functional dyspepsia is at its worst also. Had flamen enuf.
Hope u feel better once u have seen fodmap stacking vids. Will explain few things. Bst of luck
