- I put together Intex 5 (22 kg) with Rhino cobold 18 lbs trolling motor (2,5 kg) and 12V 18ah RITAR AGM battery (5 kg).
I managed to create a very light and fun package for my weekends! :)
İt is very nice to see this video. I have an excursion4 and bougth a 54 lbs motor which is still in transport. I was dreaming if it was good enough. But now I know it is very sufficient
I have bought the same ponton last year.Sadly, operating it with paddles its hard(especially when its windy). We are swimming with my girlfriend only.I have been looking for some engine and now i see that 20lbs is perfect for me!Thanks for the video.Big up from Poland.
Thanks for sharing this with us. Please also review other comments here. Some users have considered 18 LBS to have too little power for this boat. This is not my experience though ☺
Thank you very much for the presentation. From România.
Just bought the same two things, thank you for giving me an idea of how it's going to work!
Great! Have fun 😊😊
@@PierAll Hey, I have a questions if you don't mind. I tried the boat and the motor twice and it doesn't seems to be either as fast or last as long as you describe in the video. I bought this battery: www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07N75Q6T6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Do you think is not a good choice?
@ The Gel battery looks great. Have a good charger as Gel batteries as sensitive to current of charging. 20 ah x12V = 240 Watt. Cobold 18 consumes 75 w/hr at low speed and 175 w/hr at high speed (If I remmber correctly).Should last 3.2 hrs with at low speed 😊
@ As per speed you should reach 5 km/hr at low speed and 8 km/hr at high speed when there is no wind and calm water. Pump a little more air to the 1st and 2nd layer of boat to reduce friction but not too much to avoid burst. Balance the boat with people and goods and distribute the loads across boat. If you try rivers and canals the propeller may collect plants that you need to clean manually. This should help you getting better results. You may also want to have another 20ah battery in case the first one ran out. AGM batteries are cheaper than GEL and are also designed for deep discharging 😊
@@PierAll Thank SO MUCH for your help. I think that I found the problem: unfortunately, I didn't know much about these batteries and I just realized the one I bought is actually an STARTER battery, which -- for what I just read -- it's nos suitable for this type of use. I'll get a different one and I'll check how it goes. Thank you once again! :)
Love your set up, very relaxing!!! And so is your voice!!! Well chilled!!! keep up the good work!!! :-)
Thanks a lot Richard! :)
Wow, interesting little Motor! Thanks
Rhino 18 lasts 3-4 hrs with 18ah AGM battery when it is in low speed. In high speed it probably lasts for 1-2 hrs. I use mix speeds and I stop to see nice places. I am on lakes with this setup for 5-6 hrs and then its dark and the time to go home :)
I own the same motor and an inflatable Kanu Intex K2, with 45 AH Batterie you can travel full speed 2 hours. My 18 Ah Batterie is working 45 Minutes at high speed. You can double it with low speed. Speed low is 3-3.5 km/h, high speed 4.5 -5 Km(h
@@h.v.b.113 Thanks for sharing this. When did you buy 18lbs Rhino trolling motor? Have you tried measuring how much watt it uses? I also heard from another user that had your experience. I wonder if Rhino 18 lbs has changed anything.
@@PierAll I bought it springtime 2020. If you drive slow, it needs 7 Ah, if you drive fast, it needs 15 Ah. So you can see, if you own a battery with 18 Ah, it runs about 45 minutes full speed and then you have to change battery. otherwise, you will distroy your/mine 18 Ah batterie. You can only use 60% of an AGM batterie. Therfore I use a 45 Ah batterie and two batteries with 18 Ah. You can go with that equipment nearly 20 km. But this is only posible without wind. If it gets stormy stay safe at port!!!
@@h.v.b.113 Thanks for sharing this. AGM batteries are mostly designed for deep discharge. 7 ah per hour consumption will give then 2,5 hrs run time with 18 ah battery at low speed. I have achieved over 3 hrs run time as trolling motor was not continuously used. The battery lasted 4-5 years.
@@h.v.b.113 How did you manage to fix the Rhino on the inflatable canoe? and: on side or rear?
Oh wow it goes fast 💨
Can you use this motor on sea water?
I need to buy parts for my rhino cobold, but cannot find the right place. Do you suggest any please?
Awesome set up bro. How long does the battery last??
Oh wow. Just bought the Excursion 5 and am looking for a trolling motor. Thought I would need one with way more power. Are you still happy with this setup? Bigger motor is no issue for me, but not looking forward to have a 25kg battery that I would need also then... 🙈
Congratulations with your boat! You can try trolling motors with 30, 40 or 50 LBS (5-7 kg) with 40Ah AGM battery (10-12kg). This setup should last for 2-3 hrs on a calm day. Not sure if the highest speed would be much different though for this wide boat. Or try an outboard motor 2 hp Honda (12 kg). Let us know here on the outcome 😊
@@PierAll Choices, choices... 😉 But are you still happy with this set or did you upgrade in the meantime?
@@nielsproost This was a light and effective setup for many years. We made many new friends and happy moments on this boat. In windy days it may not cope with waves but then I don't go out on water when it's windy. AGM battery last for 5 years and I didn't buy a new one. I am thinking of a sailing boat now after this boat 😊
Is it working in Saltwater???
Rechargeable battery???
Hello, can this intex 5 with the trolling motor drive in open ocean?
Hi! I don't recommend going to open ocean with this setup. This is a wide raft with small trolling motor designed for calm lakes and rivers. Rowing is not easy and motor is not strong enough to pass through ocean waves.
@@PierAll
Thanks for your response. Can the raft with a much more powerful engine drive in open ocean?
@@BLove-cv9mo You can mount an engine of maximum 1,5 hp and maximum 15 kg according to manufacturer on Intex standard mounting bracket. Then you probably can go to open ocean when there is no wind nor waves.
@@PierAll Hi there! Just to satisfy your curiosity...I have tried Seahawk 4 with a small petrol engine 1.5hp very light...The boat could not handle all its power as it was going deep down of the boat. But using more half of the power I managed to go to some islands very near of the shore with no problem even with 4 people (speed=5km/h). Once , having aboard two people, saddenly, the weather turn bad and start raining having relatively high waves and wind (scary conditions) ...I have to say that it was very difficult , but eventually both the boat and the motor did the job and got as to the shore. All these in the magical country of Greece, open sea.I recommend, if you intend to use it in sea, then go for Intex mariner 3 or 4 at least and mount a light petrol engine of 2-3hp. Otherwise, be sure that the condition are ideal. I hope I helped!
@@lazmelet Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad to hear you get back to shore safely.
What battery are you using
AGM battery. Also know as Golf car battery. They are designed for deep discharge and all ah can be used.
